  1. Dan Wesson 6" with homemade 6-BB shells.
  2. Would anyone be so kind as to measure the diameter of the rims and hulls of the APS shells? I'm still trying to figure out whether they're close enough in dimensions to the Goblin shells to make the Goblins work, but I'm hesitant to buy the gun before knowing for sure. Edit: Whoops, never mind, answered my own question.
  3. Thanks Puresilver. Like I said in that post, it's a fair amount of effort. The Denix guns are made of die-cast zinc alloy, so pot metal, and of a kind that strips out fairly easily so you need to be careful with the screws. It's definitely designed to be a cheap prop, so the materials aren't great, but aside from a few specific problem points (like the hammer springs) the simplicity of the design makes it durable enough, and considering I found it for $108 I really can't complain. Making it use Madbull shells like Kalashnikov_kid's would probably be easier, since I don't believe boring out
  4. Big thanks to Kalashnikov_kid for showing me it was possible, and Renegadecow for helping me find one for sale. Another Denix coach gun conversion, this time using Goblin shells, to replace my Hwa San from page 97 that vanished into the woods on its first and only outing. I'm a big fan of the Goblin shells and with a proper barrel like this the results are great. It's got a decently tight spread and enough power to punt 18-odd BBs in a homemade paper shot cup at about 250fps.
  5. Wow, I just ran across the Denix guns the other day and was wondering if that was a doable conversion or not. Very nice! It seems though that the full stock 1881 isn't sold anymore, which is unfortunate.
  6. I finally got a Hwa San. Shame the shells are so terrible, right? But wait, what are these? Bam! Took all of thirty seconds to convert it to the Goblins. Now I have a proper double barrel firing the very-well-designed Goblin shells but looking and feeling way better than the tiny plastic fantastic Goblin Deuces. Very happy with this. Lastly the HS next to my Maruzen M1100 w/ new folding stock.
  7. Just curious, how do you pump it if the pump is taped to the barrel?
  8. I tried lengthening the extractor plate to work with the 20ga shells, the problem then became that the radius of the extractor was too long for it to snap over the base of the shell when loading. My other concern was that it wouldn't be able to grip the small rim of the shell near the end of the extraction cycle, where the extractor is gripping the shell at a shallow angle. The design is very different from how the real 1887's extractors work and it makes it very difficult to use a real shell design. Unfortunately I don't have access to outdoor space at the moment, but I'm definitely
  9. That was my initial plan when I got the 20ga hulls, especially since the primer pocket is 6mm, so it wouldn't even need drilling. The problem was the rims. Real 20ga shells have narrower rims than the airsoft shells, and are meant to use a claw-shaped extractor riding along the side of the bolt. The airsoft design is slightly different and relies on having a wide rim plus the recessed rim to give a lot of area for the under-bolt extractor plate to grab. So I replaced the 20ga rim with a homemade one, and then filled the 20ga hull with plastic tubing, and then used a washer assembly to keep
  10. The extractor is under very little stress in this design. On the Maruzens, the extractor eats itself because there is no chamber, so rather than use the extractor to pull the shell out of a chamber and then eject it, the bolt flies back until the claw-like extractor whacks the rim of the shell and flings it out. This gun has a breech, so it works like a real shotgun. The spring-loaded extractor pulls the shell back and upwards, causing the shell to ride up over the horizontal flipper-like piece visible in the frame, and then the next shell coming up ensures it gets flung out. There's no impact
  11. So, let's make some shells. For each of these I'm listing the McMaster-Carr item number. While I'm not sure if McMaster-Carr ships overseas outside of US government contracts, even if they don't, their website shows technical specs on each item so should make it easier to source a local replacement. If you go to their website (mcmaster.com) and enter an item number in the search box, it'll jump right to it, then just click Product Detail at the top of the box. Parts list: -Body: 5/8" OD, 2/8" ID black ABS tubing (1839T331) -Sleeve: 20ga shotgun hulls, I got mine on Etsy -Head rim: 0
  12. Okay, I just gassed up with propane, tested, and chronoed. With my adjustment to the hammer spring it's shooting 350-360fps with 0.25s (same muzzle energy as 390-400fps with 0.2s), and got exactly 30 shots at full power before one lacklustre one and then ran empty. Pretty efficient, I'd say. If you keep it at the stock muzzle velocity I'd expect at least 40 shots. It's definitely using a lot less gas than the Marushin. Renegadecow, I unfortunately have no idea what the company is doing. I haven't seen them advertise anything about a full-stocked version, though.
  13. Alright, tomorrow when I build some more I'll take photos and document the process. The gas reservoir holds enough for 30-40 shots stock. After strengthening the hammer spring it's now 20-30. Refilling is not as terrible as I thought it'd be, once I learned how to line up the tank with the valve it became pretty simple. I got it from Evike because I'm over in Yankeeland, there is a Japanese company (JP Airsoft) that has it as well.
  14. Honestly I didn't think anyone would be interested, but since it seems people are curious I just posted a thread over in the Gas Rifle Review section. Let me know if there's anything else you want to know about the gun.
  15. Just a little bit of background, I saw a video of this gun back in October and immediately became interested. I'm a big fan of both the Terminator films and Westerns, own a modern reproduction of the Winchester 1887, and had been long considering buying a Marushin M1887 and seeing if I could convert it to 6mm- so when I saw that a clone of the Marushin was coming out, and in 6mm no less, I jumped at the opportunity. So first things first, here's how it comes out of the box. Not too bad, really. The finish on the wood is terrible, and the matte black finish looks a little weird com
  16. Apparently JP Airsoft has it. Never used the site so can't vouch for it, but it's a bit closer to your part of the globe.
  17. Good news everyone! Making shells from scratch is easier than anticipated. My homemade shells hold 9 BBs apiece, a significant improvement over the 3 pellet maximum of the stock shells. Apologies for the garbage photo:
  18. A few millimeters shorter and slightly smaller diameter, enough that the Maruzen shells won't chamber or feed. Converting it to use Maruzen shells was my game plan when I got it but it's just not doable. However, the shells are exactly the same diameter as 20ga hulls, so as soon as the resources arrive in the mail I'll be using empty hulls, 5/8" ABS tubing, and an assortment of washers to build my own shells, and if that works then it will definitely be as skirmishable as any GBB pistol or rifle.
  19. Aluminum externals, gas reservoir, and hammer spur assembly, plastic lifter. The aluminum is decent quality but where it's tapped for screws it strips easily, so gotta be careful with it. I'd be cautious, if you want it just to have it or as a display piece then go for it, but in stock form it's a real pain to load due to some questionable design decisions so is basically unusable as a skirmish piece without modifications, and that's leaving aside that the shells aren't sold anywhere. I've put a bunch of work into making this gun skirmishable and still am looking at manufacturing shells fr
  20. I got my hands on an Apple Airsoft M1887, imported by 6mmProShop. It's a clone of the old Marushin M1887, in 6mm. Out of the box it was pretty junky but after doing some internal work it functions much better, and externally I buffed it with graphite and re-stained the wood. Before: After: Still needs Tung oil to finish the wood, and I need to manufacture about fifty shells since the ones it came with aren't for sale anywhere. I don't know why they designed the shells to only hold 3 BBs at most, they could easily be drilled out to hold 9 BBs like the Maruzens, so I'm goin
  21. It's ugly, but it holds 5 shells and can be comfortably fired one-handed, so I think is going to make a heck of a CQB gun.
  22. Not exactly a picture, but I built a thing a while back and just got some internal parts updated so I made a live-fire video.
  23. Oh damn it! I remember finding that optic a year ago, thinking I'd use it for some crazy 80s sci-fi movie gun, then promptly forgot about it.
  24. Saw on Youtube a while back that someone made a belt-fed 12ga upper for an AR lower. It's one of those things that is 100% possible but hasn't been done because it's also 100% useless.
  25. Too many rails in this thread for my tastes.
