TheFinn
I just got the 3 piece German army canteen, and when I opened it there was a bad smell. When I looked in, I noticed these sort of stains in the metal and these white bumps on the sides. I poured hot water and soap into it and rinsed it out, but they are still there, and when I felt inside, it was kind of... gritty like sand? Anyone have any cleaning advice or information as to what this substance is? Also, if you know where I could get a new canteen or a replacement bottle part, please supply the links. Punkypink
Sounds like hardened limescale to me but thats just a shot in the dark.
{{RommelsElite}}Pz4
Does it have a thick smell of motor oil? Mine did. I put some heavy duty dishwashing soap in there with scalding hot water, changing the water every 10 mins for a while and the smell finally went away. Im not sure if that will work for yours though. nickless
There are several tricks that will work - one is to use baking soda (natron) and water, the other is to use denture cleaner (don't know what brands you have, here it's "Corega Tabs" or something like that ). TheFinn
Yeah, I have hear the limescale thing, so I'm thinking that's what the problem is. I've been told to use bleach, but since I have none around yet I will try the baking soda first. Thanks all for the help.
