Ares Shrike

Hey guys, right, frist things first. before anyone say anything, I just did a search and came up blank :(

Right, now, after stumbling across GunTech.com's website and witnessing their Ares Shrike LMG Conversion I think I am in love.

My airsoft arsanel simply would not be complete without one, so I have decided to undertake building one.

It looks expensive, but not incredibly difficult to achieve, I'ts going to mean chopping up an M4 and M249 which I should be able to manage, however, one forseable problem will be with the box mag. Its mounted sideways on this Shrike which looks like it could cause feeding problems, and TBH I'm not 100% sure how to get around this :(

This is where you guys come in, if anyone has any ideas as to how to get it to feed reliably, as well as any ideas to do with the conversion in general they'd be much appreciated.

Cheers, Simon ;)

Cheers Slayer. Completly forgot about that, looking at it now I may be able to utilise the feed tray off it, we'll see.

Led, I noticed from reading your thread that you CNC'd the trades yourself (Or your company did, ###### memory :( ) Don't suppose you'd be able to do the same for me? I wouldn't want to endanger your guns... One of a kindness, the trades of the Shrike LMG are different anyway.

Cheers :)

I used these pics to determine the trades:

http://www.aresdefense.com/faqs.htm

specifically the versions with the "full mag well" lower.

As far as me machining them for people, there is nothing really stopping me, except for the trademark laws ;) and the (I'm assuming) high shipping costs back and forth to the UK.

I'm not that worried about having a 1 of a kind receiver :)

A better idea might be to find a shop with a vertical cnc mill and a .010" endmill...I can probably get the g-code (program) sent to you, and they could do hard part. It was just fixtured in a vice on a Mori-Seiki M-300L VMC.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I imagine if I sell any services and such Ares could have me in court. Even if the chances are slim, I'm not too interested in testing their "protectiveness" of their logo.

Fair enough mate :)

I can't find any pics that;ll help me determine the trades anyway so I guess I'm kinda stuck for ideas on that one.

Cheers for the reply though dude ;)

No problem. I was serious about the program. It is less than 10 minutes of machining, so to find a local guy with a cnc it shouldn't cost all that much. I would guess less than an hour of total time.

here are a couple of images I used for mine:

Cheers matey :)

I do happen to know someone with a CNC, its just obtaining a blanck reciever and finding some decent piccies of the EXP-1's trades.

If I can get hold of a blanck reciever I may take you up on that offer mate, I guess its better than having Colt/Armalite/OA trades after all ;)

Oh, and the other logo is just your std bushmaster

As for the receiver I just used the unfinished guarder

http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?i...a87bc6fa401aeff

that you can get at most of the hk dealers.

Yeah, no problem. You picked a gun I'm very fond of. :) just don't ask me any beratta questions...

And is it me, or does that stoner kit have the belt feed set up from the right (to eject out the left)? Seems backwards to me.

The shrike is normal. It's the smokey's kit on guns and guys that is "backwerds".

LOL you say tomayto, I say tomawto, let's call the whole thing off...

Sorry about the spelling :) I can't be bothered to edit every post antEgon ;)
