M1911 - leather holster fitting problems

Recommended Posts

Just ordered a pair of repro 'US' stamped leather holsters for the M1911. The shoulder one fits perfectly but for love nor money I cannot see how my WE-Tech is going to fit into the hip holster. Its just too tight all over.

Are there any methods or tips on getting them to expand to fit a little? I thought about hot water but that might shrink it, yes?

Leather will actualy streatch in normal use and I'd be careful about using water to soak leather - it can cause it to shrink [happened to leather armoured work gloves] and might cause damage to the leather later [hardening and cracking], particulary as most of the leather hip holster are only fully finished on one side.

I remember mention of a method of tourure that involved soaking leather ties and allowing them to dry and constrict after being tied arround a limb or neck ;)

Meathod I used on my was to just force the gun in and leave it there - it's not plastic the shape will adjust over time and it is soft. If you're worried about the finish, try a light sandwich type bag on the mussle :)

soak it in cold water over night. Get your pistol in a couple of heavy duty plastic bags ,maybe more .To protect the pistol ,and make it slightly larger .Stick it in the holster ,and leave it to dry at room temprature.

This works , I've done it myself with a formed leather holster. I didn't soak it overnight-- just wet it under the sink, wrapped my revolver in plastic, crammed my revolver in, snapped the catch and let it air dry.
