  1. 1. What were you taught to do with the clutch when braking?

    • Floor the clutch, then select the appropriate gear once decelerated or stopped

    • Use the engine to slow you down, changing down through the gears as required

Not on a box with synchros. You dont need it if your synchros are working, in fact they increase the risk of grinding because youre trying to do so much so quickly.

Some of our older Merc's have damaged synchros, so knowing DDC is a handy skill for us. For most car drivers...nahh.

DDC can actually damage synchromesh.

Only time I've needed to do it was when I smashed Cassy's 3rd gear's mesh.

When I first got her, the lock nut on the clutch cable had wound down to the end of the thread and would not budge, consiquently the adjuster nut would work its way down the thread, the pedal would drop towards the floor and I'd not be able to disengage the clutch.

This happened on the way back from GZ2006 at the staines junction lights of the M25.

Had to DDC for 3rd, or just skip it on the way up until I could source and fit a new gearbox.
