  1. Just a quick note to say that it's come to my attention that the rep system has vanished from sales now also. Several users have reported this. I shall contact Arnie and ask him to take a look at the earliest possible moment.
  2. There's no pleasing some people. I suppose I know who'll be the first to complain when the new forum skin is done then, eh?
  3. Right now this thread is on life support. Please give me some valid reasons not to delete it, folks.
  4. Generally if I notice any new threads being posted I'll move them to the relevant sections. To avoid confusion for threads which were in existence prior to the subsections, I'm leaving these in their existing place. Fingers crossed it should be these with new posts only - if you see an entirely new thread, please report it so that it can be moved.
  5. Speaking from a moderating point of view, it's vastly easier to govern what goes on here when people have to be registered to even view. It means that previous issues with people wandering on here to randomly abuse members / the site in general are a thing of the past now. Also, in terms of the site's speed, I'd much rather keep things as quickly as this, rather than risk the issues with potential slowdown by throwing open the site to the unregistered public again.
  6. With the current software, I'm not sure how feasible this would be. Besides, we have not only the global moderating team but also several offtopic/sales moderators. If you need a thread closing, simply report it and we'll deal with it promptly.
  7. Looking at the next thread down in this forum section might explain it.... And the system has already been altered - it's not a process underway or one that will be reversed. The system was massively abused and has now been removed. As that thread shows, the vast majority of users are glad to see the back of it in its previous form.
  8. To answer bluntly: no. Such a system would be open to abuse and subject to the same popularity contests as the rep system, with many jumping on the bandwagon because of a single person's grievance with a member. Ultimately the decision to suspend or ban rests with Arnie and the moderating staff for that reason. We may not always make popular decisions, but we generally make fair ones. Should you find someone behaving in an inexcusable fashion please use the report system so that we can be made aware of a problem. This really is already a method of petitioning for the ban of particul
  9. Interesting - have you been reading a different thread to the rest of us? I have seen quite a lot of users with high rep in here, and have seen little grievance on their part. I find it quite sad for you that you find random numbers on the intarweb affect your ego one way or the other. As has already been said, the best way to judge a person is based upon the content of their posts. Heaven knows what judgements people may make about you if you always make such contributions.
  10. I agree with Jack here. I can see what you're saying, but it seems to me that how good a seller a person is has little relevance on anything else such as their technical know-how, their general personality, etc. I think as long as the new feedback system is used in the correct way that there should be no problems. Besides, surely if it was visible everywhere, we would just see a lot of very sad people putting up false sales in order to boost their meaningless number (much in the same way as some chaps now seem to have taken to sticking in their sig... ) In relation to the question
  11. Anyone found to be abusing the reputation system will receive a week's suspension without exception. Should it be repetitively abused by an individual, I'm sure you can all guess the outcome. This may seem harsh, but if there's no reason to follow the rules then there will always be those who will break them.
  12. I think as this has now been amended that this thread no longer really needs to stay open. If anyone wants to add something feel free to just PM me to request it being reopened.
  13. Ding dong the waste of forum overhead is dead. As you probably all know from my previously stated view of the reputation system as it was being used, I'm glad to see the back of it. Hopefully now that its use is restricted to the sales system we can see it used for something more meaningful than childish retaliation against those who immature members don't agree with, and the most bizarre popularity contest ever (I'm popular with total strangers. Woo.). As has already been said, in its previous form it truly was just meaningless numbers on the intarwebz. I think a big thanks is due
  14. Thanks for the nominations guys, but moderator selection is down to the current staff and is usually based on who has generally maintained a mature, responsible and friendly approach to posting. I'm not for a second suggesting any of the names mentioned haven't done these things, but ultimately the final decision will rest with the existing staff and Arnie. For what it's worth, we also already have quite a few US based moderators as it stands. I'm sure if people are finding there's not enough around however that we'll be happy to consider adding more in the near future.
  15. It seems fast and reliable. Nice one Arnie.
  16. Sledge is correct, only he failed to mention that in addition it also means you will shortly be banned.
  17. I must admit that when I was first told of this thread at Op: Morning After, I was convinced that this was a joke. Now that I have read through the thread and established that this appears (for someone at least) to be serious, I have reached the following conclusions: 1) Some people don't understand the concept of social-specific lexis. 2) None of the regular posters (or anyone who has posted more then a handful of posts, for instance) appears to have an issue with grasping such a concept. 3) The people who generally don't grasp this concept do so because they are not regul
  18. Thanks for the productive feedback there. Anything else folks would like to add? I have a few suggestions: 'Water is wet' 'Breathing is good' 'Reading the News section before posting silly threads is useful'.
  19. This is a picture thread, not an argument space for people with insecurities. If you have nothing productive to add to this thread then please do not contribute.
  20. Pointless confrontational nonsense. Need I say more? 'freedom fighter': Your general abusiveness, antagonistic posting and sheer inability to show even the vaguest awareness of basic grammatical conventions has lead me to conclude that you have not in your time here made a single productive comment. Rather you appear to be here purely to antagonise and stir up resentment - something which runs contrary to this forum's ethos and its rules. As a result I have suspended you indefinitely from contributing to this site. Should you feel you can offer something and reform your ways, feel f
  21. I believe that (if there is a God) the current use of the reputation system will be addressed when the forum designed is overhauled. No-one ever intended for the reputation system to be used in the (what I find to be utterly pointless) manner which it is today - I can't see anything useful about seeing how many members have posted pictures of their girlfriends up in a bid to get a few more numbers added after their name on the interweb after all. However last time when the system was introduced (prior to my being a mod) it was misused on such a vast scale that it became impossible
  22. I'll leave it up to Arnie to give you the details (not my place), but rest assured the new server is coming very soon. This will lead to an outage for a while most likely, as Arnie transfers all data across, but should mean no more outages (or at least, nothing like what we're getting now). Matt: I think the whole forum re-hash is a long-term plan. For now I think most people would be happy just to be able to get access to the forums more often.
