From: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/01/1...8-AFGHAN_8.html Saw that in the NYTimes a few days ago and figured I'd share it here. -Piano

The front sight assembly base screw (B12) fits the hole in the outer barrel sleeve (B4) so if you swapped out the stock flash hider for something else and still have it laying around, you can use its grub screw to help secure the outer barrel sleeve, though there really is no need as the flash hider does that job fine. -Piano

Since I haven't tightened down the screw all the way as I'm still waiting on a gas tube (You will need an AEG gas tube to use the 5KU gas block), it suffices as the compensator sleeve (B2) does most of the work holding the outer barrel sleeve (B4) onto the outer barrel (B6). At the rear of the outer barrel sleeve (B4) there is a threaded hole where a grub screw could be installed in order to tighten up the outer barrel sleeve (B4), but no grub screw was included with my KJW. -Piano

Ah, I thought the question was directed towards the Kimber. How's the clamp on mount working for you? Do you have any holstering issues? -Piano

Brooklyn- New picture with G&P Aimpoint low mount. If I stay with this optics, I'll probably get a King Arms or VFC Larue mount clone. Front-on Picture: Side Close-up Picture: Bottom Close-up Picture: Without a gas tube, the gas block isn't indexed properly, but it'll do for now. -Piano

The ridge is a removable insert that you can swap with a flat insert. -Piano

It's the SOCOM Gear model which is supposed to have real steel threading. The barrel nut fits perfectly onto the KJW upper receiver and I used a Park Tool SPA-4 to tighten it down as I didn't want to shell out for a proprietary tool from DD. Initially the bolt up system plate is loose (mainly front and back, the "ears" on it keep it from going side to side too much despite not having the gas tube installed). When you bolt it to the upper rail assembly, it snugs down and is good to go. The upper rail and the bolt up system plate sandwich the barrel nut, and I found that if you tighten the screw

Yes, I'll take another photo outside tomorrow to capture how it looks in natural lighting as opposed to indoor compact fluorescent and camera flash. -Piano

Nice AEG cstrikeman. Hopefully my FDE AFG arrives tomorrow or Friday with the rest of the order so I can finish my M4. -Piano

Luis- No mods required as the rail slipped right over it with no problems. -Vic

I've successfully installed a 5KU DD Low Profile Gas Block (purchased from Ebaybanned) under my SOCOM Gear DD MK18 RIS II. All I need is a gas tube as the KJW M4A1 gas tube is too fat for the DD gas block. -Piano

The 5KU DD Low Profile Gas Block arrived today and it fits on the stock outer barrel just fine. The only hiccup is that the KJW's gas tube is thicker at the gas block end than the hole that is in the gas block. The tube ~5 mm in diameter and the hole in both the 5KU gas block and KJW upper receiver measures ~3/16 in. The end of the tube that fits into the upper receiver measures ~3/16 in. Cheers, -Piano

I've temporarily installed the SOCOM Gear DD MK18 RIS II to see how it fits and needless to say, it works. The barrel nut fits perfectly onto the KJW upper receiver and I used a Park Tool SPA-4 to tighten it down. Initially the bolt up system plate is loose (front and back, the "ears" on it keep it from going side to side despite not having the gas tube installed), but when you bolt it to the upper rail assembly, it snugs down and is good to go. I would recommend unbolting the lower rail assembly from the upper rail assembly to make tightening down the bottom mounting bolts easier. I've d

Is their anything in particular when cleaning the internals of the KJ? I was thinking about using some Sentry Solutions Smooth-Kote on areas of higher wear as it's a dry gun lubricant as opposed to a wet oil or lube. -Piano
