Kipper
As far as I'm aware there is a restriction on importing Gen3 NVG into the UK but how about Gen 2/2+? Can anyone confirm this is perfectly legal?
Kevin Berry
Gen 3 can be legally owned and bought in the uk.I have also seen gen 3 for sale to EU countries. The states have export restrictions on gen 3 to anywhere outside of the states. However US Non mil spec 2/2plus are still for exort on ebay etc. The definition of gen3 varies from manfacturer to manufacture, id look for the resolution in lines/mm: 51l/mm is typically gen2 plus. 64l/mm typicaly is gen 3. kevin
grendal
The USA, rightly, doesn't allow export of NV or Thermal imaging equipment to the UK and Europe.
Shriven
Optics Planet shipped out 2 different PVS sets to a friend here, no problems.
grendal
They violated the law or they have a warehouse in europe. I've never found a big and cheap nightvision rifle scope, they're all small scopes (cheap or not) and really make the gun ... not look as good as it does with the big scope. Spacemonkey
My friend has been looking to buy a thermal imager for a while and they will export from the US if you have the correct license, also for gen 2/2+/3, which it is possible to get for a private individual. The cost however is another thing altogether. But it IS legally possible, just not straightforward, and there's a lot of hoops to jump though. You also need a US supplier who is aware of the facts of the law and not one who just says it is illegal and won't budge from that.
