As said in this thread http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...11&hl=signature

it doesn't really matter much what shape your signature is as long as the number of pixels is less than 40000, and the size of the image is small enough so the loading time is not too long for dialup users.

I supposed the convention for specifying an image size is widthxheight, so in this case it would be 400x100. However in matrix notation, people write (number of rows)x(by number of columns), and there are 100 rows of pixels and 400 columns of pixels. ;)

Yes. The main concerns with signature images are...

  • Image Filesize (KB)
  • Image Height

The image limit of 400x100 (400 wide by 100 high) has been put forward as an ideal image size. Having one that is 500 wide isn't going to be a problem either really as it won't stretch the width of the page for many users. Much wider than this though will start to cause a problem.

More than 100 pixels high though is a problem, as people have to scroll past signatures to read the posts that people have made, and seeing the same tall signature image over and over again does get very annoying.

So, for the final word, signatures should be...

  • NO more than 100 pixels high (although 5 or 10 pixels over shouldn't be a problem)
  • No more than 400 pixels wide (although up to about 500 pixels absolute maximum shouldn't be much of a problem either)
  • DEFINITELY NO MORE than 100KB in filesize (again, discretion is used if an image is a tiny bit over, but realistically, it should be noticably less than this limit).

I hope that clears things up for y'all ;)
