Ditto.

 

Seems that the Chrysanthemum (daisy :blink:) is the unofficial official seal of Japan. And the seal of the Emperor.

 

I can understand why Japan's servicemen and -women would use the cherry blossom as their insignia... but I don't see how it's related to the nation, other than as a historically popular pasttime....
