Seeing as how the round is no longer than a .223, the overall length is barely over 2". This isn't a .50 BMG, this isn't an anti material rifle. I believe it would be suited to elk/moose/etc just fine.

Yeah its not some humongous load round. They sell .50 rifles at ######'s Sporting Goods here in the states. They arent that huge.

Well, that varies on what .50 it is. It could range from .50 BMG to .50AE, most .50s however are designed for either dangerous game hunting, or anti material duties.

I remember I have one of those gun rag mags from a few years ago. The .50 Beowulf is just a slighty extended .50 AE correct?

I do not believe it is based off of the .50AE. It's a straight case with the rim necked down to operate on 7.62x39mm bolt faces.

Yes I know there was one, thats where I saw the article. However, I can't find them on any retailer sites, so it's technically unavailable to me.

Finally I made some sense it's .50 AE not the BMG... I was wondering if it was BMG caliber you couldn't shoot it unless it was straped to a hummer or an Abraams...

But I elieve it's colt that makes pistols in any caliber you like... imagine a pistol firing .50 BMG now that's a one lifetime shooting (your upper body would most likely detach from your legs cause the strenght of the impact )

I've got a magazine here with a big article about it. It's got a hell of a drop on the round, so it's really only for close-range work, and they seem to imply that it would be used by LE (someone mentioned US Coastguard use it too, not huge ranges there). The article is very technical, and explains why it was developed etc.

 

(I see most of what I've said has already been mentioned, but it's the only gun mag I have so I had to say something Friend got it for me in NYC).

I think the .50 AE round used by the desert eagle is shorter than these rounds. Not entirely sure though.
