Madmaxthe2nd
Well my neighbor has the best connection for my laptop in my office. It used to be free then a day later (i never used it) it became protected. I really was wondering if anyone knew how to get the network key so i can use the internet in my office. Thanks! r.ocelot
Illegal if you use it without his permission.
transist
...ask him for it? Sounds like he had an open connection and one day he decides to make it secure. If he doesn't want you using it, you don't have a choice. If he doesn't mind, I'm sure he would give you the key if you asked.
Donut
Not to mention it's also a hell of a lot harder to get than WEP. Either way, it's illegal unless you ask.
Madmaxthe2nd
Ok thanks guys.
Night_raven
Aye, .. please please please make sure you ask him to use it. If possible, offer to pitch in with the bill as well, i'm sure he'll let you then. But using the internet without his permission is basically Piggybacking.
supportgunner
You can get it in (unless it's WPA2) in a matter of seconds if you know how. It is, however, a class 3 felony to do so, and nobody's going to tell you how to do it.

If he is asking a question on here - he doesnt have the requisite knowledge to even attempt doing it. More to the point - he shouldnt be even thinking about it. Anyway. Your neighbours internet connection wasnt 'free'. It belonged to him, and has an intrinsic value, hence you were stealing. No doubt he noticed your presence, be it bandwidth reduction, activity on the actual router, default shared drives showing or something more sophisticated. Remember - not everyone that has an open access point has done so by accident, or is a clueless technophobe. He has a fast connection - no doubt he is paying a premium for it, hence he is unlikely to share it with you. Even if you were on his network, with his key, he can easily monitor your traffic, much like you can his, so unless you know and trust this neighbour, you could be in for a nasty suprise. If he can acquire a good connection, being his neighbour, im sure the same option is available to you. Get your own connection.
snorkelman
I love this sort of thread 'My neighbour has the fastest car for me, its a ferrari and he used to leave it unlocked outside now for some reason he locks its doors. Does anyone know where I can get a key to open it it works out sooo much cheaper on fuel than running my own'
WeirdoTransvestite
Or, if you want, you can strike a deal with your him and maybe go half and half on the connection, that way it's cheaper for both of you, and you get access. Don't steal his connection. Otherwise, get your own.

No offence, as an IT Admin in training, Security on a network and the internet is a priority,.. now i'm not sure whether to report that post on the grounds of suggesting him to crack it. Spedz
Sorry to sound like an *albartroth* (As usual) but actually he's not actually suggesting it.

Which involves the illegal method (which i will definatly NOT tell what it is).
Marlowe
I think this thread has pretty much gone on for as long as it can without getting more unpleasant.
