Hissing_Sid
Must admit, I've never really understood that whole viscious-circle thing about Windows being prone to virus attacks when these weirdo's spend all their time writing viruses which specifically target windows OS. I mean, all this "My Mac doesn't get viruses" thing is cr@p. It doesn't get viruses 'cos the malicious little turds who write the viruses use Mac's and think they're cool. I suppose the same kind of logic might make a person become Muslim in order to avoid the Jihad! Personally, I used MacOS8 and it was sh1te. Buggy as hell, like using an old DOS PC. My next encounter with MacOS was X and I found it so frustrating, compared to XP, that I started bringing my own laptop in to work.

I guess it's nature's way of keeping everything in balance. If Windows doesn't get attacked, and Microsoft doesn't get sued all the time, they'll become bigger and stronger, and drive their competitors out of business and destroy the balance. Nature appearantly does not like this. Damn, I don't make any sense, ok, just ignore this post.

outlaw
Yeah but the guy gets a virus email and everyone is recomending firefox... The way some people are going at it they are acting like firefox salesmen saying it will fix everything! windows is evil! I have seen a lot of people using un patched ie 5.5 distributions whith no problems at all and others with 6.0 fully up to date that attract spyware like a magnet. Security comes from safe behaviour stop browsing porn sites and you wont get spyware!

Duff Beer
Whilst we are on technical compturiness; has anyone had issues with uploading the AD site? My browser can't open it. Can someone have a look and see if it is just me please?
Duff Beer
On a seperate note about viruses, follow my thinking. The internet becomes widely available in 1996. Microsoft is the biggest software programmer on the planet and continues to grow and grow. With the popularity of the internet and email there is a substantial increase in viruses sent. Microsoft is unable to stop all viruses to Windows and so the problem gets worse and worse until third party companies create virus protectors. Microsoft waits until the use of the internet is to the point that broadband happens and the virus epidemic becomes worse than ever. Here is the conspiracy bit. What if Windows was designed with all of its backdoors in place? Norton and other people can make superb firewalls that will stop anything and everything yet the XP firewall is panse, both pre sp2 and post sp2. What if the viruses were written by Microsoft? Now Microsoft is going to launch an anti virus software. What is the betting that the viruses will stop? I reckon it is a safe bet. People will continue to sell the anti virus programmes as due to the lack of infection people will believe its the anti virus working, not the lack of viruses being programmed. Belive me adaware is nice but it is rarely enough. Theres a couple bugges out there that use NT permissions to protect themselves as well as other creative exploits to keep the files locked in normal mode and many times safe mode... I clean out the lightweights with adaware then take on the heavy threats with notepad nad a command promot
