How is a 104/105 more modern? Performance-wise and timeline-wise it's down to personal preference, but the long rifle definitely offers more flexibility in terms of real world usage.

Haven't had much time lately, but I'll have to give that a try. I think it's similar to what Greg was saying. Most likely I've already tried it in the past but I'm sure this whole thing comes down to something stupidly simple.

Tried that; it doesn't seem to be the issue either. The slide seems to have no issues with rolling past the hammer or anything else. It just hits something and is at a hard stop in that position in the picture above.

With a little help from folks here, I managed to get my hands on a G17. It's a really nice looking piece! There's just one problem: I took the slide off and now it won't ever go back on again. I've watched half a dozen disassembly/reassembly videos and have been emailing with the guy who sold it to me, and I'm not closer to making it work. I even took apart and put back together a real one just to make myself feel less like I was taking crazy pills. Anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Nothing passive aggressive about it. Your statement seemed to imply that leaving the neck exposed is out of the ordinary when it fact this thread is full of pictures of just that. Hundreds of excellent and interesting pictures are posted with no response whatsoever.

This may be a better place to ask than the dead HK thread... I forgot that the 417 buffer tube is dramatically larger than an AR one, and that therefore an armorer's wrench doesn't work! Anyone got a solution to this other than a $$$$ 417 tool?
