Sci-Fi Rifle

Hello AA,

I have been inspired by an old prop piece of mine- a toy HK-like rifle. It's matte black and has tons of silver scratches on it.

I decided to create my own, usable version of this old prop.

Base rifle: I'm thinking G36C. I'm not sure if I'd want this to be skirmishable or not yet.

Process is as follows.

-Spray paint matte black.

-Scratch using silver spray paint and sock (don't ask, it just works)

-Add accessories (flashlight, red dot scope)

-Add OD tape on certain spots, ideally buttstock, foregrip and handgrip.

The concept is this:

It started life as one of millions of mass produced rifles. From the arms plants, this weapon was heavy and made of metals and plastics. It was then issued and re-issued so many times, it lacks a truly good external finish. Soldiers have modified it for their needs, this is evident by the many colors on the rifle. Apparently through the process is issue, the weapon is quickly repainted. Soldiers have also taped it together to make it work. Most soldiers assigned with this weapon for city patrol equip it with a flashlight and a red dot scope. Presumably, soldiers issued it in woodland do the same, except add a bipod.

I'm really just looking for input and help with making it look futuristic.

Maybe try and make it look like a gun from battlefield 2142 or something along those lines, I havent persoanlly played the game but from what i saw of the guns it could turn out nice, and wouldn't be to hard to do with a G36C. i wouldnt go for RIS rails and such, maybe only for the optical sight. see if you can make a specialised clip for a flashlight.

If you really wanted to go to town with the flashlight, try and make a sort of socket with the batteries already in the weapon, but with a removable bulb module that can be changed at will or left out altogether, you could even make different filters on bulbs.

Hey your project isn't a million miles from my own, although I'm looking to build from scratch and definately want mine to be a skirmish tool. I'm looking at creating one of these:

Although some of the guns from HALO would also be sweet!

As far as all the flashing leds and stuff, in my personal opinion, I would steer clear of that, or it could end up looking like something from a 1970s Buck Rogers episode! If you take a look at the way "real world" guns are developing, XM8, SCAR, and try to imagine a natural progression from there, that might work better.

Do you have any pictures of what you're planning?

I haven't any true plans, but I will be messing with a side-view G36C later today.

I myself am a Halo costumer/prop maker but actually making the gun itself is very difficult.

Not exactly flashings LEDs, but more like the odd LED out of a broken out piece of the weapon's shell.

Hmm, the XM8 is a total possibility. They certainly look futuristic, heck, with a nice paintjob and OK optics it might be decently skirmishable also!

Looks like its time to search around and keep thinking! I might get some sketches up here soon.

THis gun looks like it could be based on a mixture of FN P90, HK G36, and FAMAS. See if you can see the same features I can, perhaps the above uns would make a good basis for a future battle rifle. Incidentally, the rifle below is from HALO. If you're interested I have more pictures I can post of other rifles in the range.

Oops! So you did, sorry!....I can imagine that makes your job on this project harder, rather than easier, as those guns look like some of the most "realistic" proposals for a future rifle I've seen in a long time. Even the stuff knocked out by Games Workshop looks clumsy alongside it.....

Actually, that reminds me. There is a game called Infinity, made by Corvus Belli, its a Sci Fi skirmish game based in the "not too distant future"....they have some really nice tech. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll post some less offensive pictures :)

heres a taster:

Ing's first gun the terran gun or w/e looks interesting. Except if I were to make that I would make it an ejecting m203 type gun and have a mag, IDK how it would work but it would intimidate like a mofo.

HK guns are probably the best bet for futuristic look. Also what does your toy-like HK gun look like Merchant?

just been playing bf2142 and i want to build a gun from this :) lol

the ones that i am interested in are:

Lambert Carbine (already own a g36c so i guess half way there)

http://www.battlefield-game.com/images/bf2...ons/carbine.gif

Voss L-AR (I really wouldnt mind doing this as it would be small unique and light)

http://www.battlefield-game.com/images/bf2...eapons/voss.gif

and finally, Krylov FA-37 AR

http://www.battlefield-game.com/images/bf2...pons/krylov.gif

so a few questions:

how would you get a mag to feed from an angle? would a modified hopup unit do the job? (lambert carbine)

would a sight attached to the side of the gun make any difference to the accuracy once zeroed in?

what would be the best way of creating each of them?

sorry for hijacking the thread but ive been looking for a sci-fi rifle to do for awhile :)

hollow resin cast models . . . not quite suitable for working airsoft guns?

fareast, sometime in the past, posted a mostly aluminum prototype of the Seburo MN23. i'd like to see one done, too -- has been on my to do list (the MN23 SXC, that is) for a very long time ;)

maybe a cross of the AUG (or f2K), P90, and any of the v6-type meks instead of a G36 base platform?

zT :assassin:
