Horse
What is the best mid/low/real cap 5.45 style AK magazine out there? I do not want 45 round mags, or high cap mags, just mids and lows etc. I love the STAR revolution mags, but they are 7.62 not 5.45. Give me your AK loves and thoughts. Rambo Kid
Why not mod real-steel mags?
counterassasin
Best 5.45 style mag? MAG without a doubt. G&P's if you want to mod real steel mags, but it won't come anywhere near MAG in terms of reliable feeding.
Fin
Seconded on MAG brand, amazing quality for the price. If you do manage to source some RS ones (not exactly common any more, minus east German) VFC (pretty cheap) or G&P mags are you're best bet
snorkelman
tbh I doubt you'll ever get a final definitive opinion on that cos theres too many variables in mag catch and magwell dimensions and in the mag lips of the mags themselves. eg star mags will probably work wonderfully in a Kalash or RS type 56 where the mag catches are large and keep the narrow mag lip they used up tight in the receiver, but when I owned them they wobbled in a guarder kit cos the catch is shorter and the magwell a little wider so dropped down at the back and misfed etc. whereas on a VFC where the catch was inbetweeny sized they were held tight enough to be usable if a little wobbly some folks curse G&P midcap 74 style mags as being jam prone but other folks get on just fine with them etc you're best bet is probably to go to a game and try borrowing as many mid cap 74 style brands as you can lay your hands on and try them in your gun then buy a bundle of that sort personally I got on well with G&P in Guarder and VFC guns (and in Kalash guns with their mag latch filed down to suit the mags)
Horse
Why not mod real-steel mags? If i could find real mags for less than $40 I would buy them for my REAL AK. I would never chop up a real mag for airsoft. The gun in question will be a Kalash RK-
The Crunchy Bunny
I only own one, but I love my MAG Plum 5.45 mag. If I had a 74 I'd definatly buy more.
1st Commando
MAG midcaps are the most reliable although my G&P ones have been pretty good too but I think I was lucky . I tend to just use the MAGs the most though
DanHS
Another vote for the MAG midcaps here. My friends and I use them in our AKs, I have 10 of them and I plan to buy more in different styles for various AK projects.
FaRKle
I had 6 G&P AK74 midcaps that all fed flawlessly. Just lube the mags when you first get'em.
aznsk8s87
MAG - I use their STANAG's and have used their MP5's, so I would assume their AK mags would be of comparable quality and reliability.
torN-
I can only find these MAG mags at WGC. anywhere else?
1st Commando
might be worth trying airsoftsupplier as your in the UK
Clot
I have about 20 odd of the MAG mids, very reliable. Plum and Orange. I also have vfc and g&p ( i think ) and both are good, ideal for converting to tracer or realsteel. I prefer mag as they are lighter than the others
DanHS
Almost all the HK shops should carry MAG mags, I'm sure many UK shops do too. The MAG mags feed excellent right out of the box, don't even lube them or anything (lube attracts dust anyway).
