Unclear shot of the folding stock mech (dust cover isn't on properly...) Arrived today, and is one tough cookie, bent & stripped my allen key Note: the mag isn't in properly, as the hop is 4 degrees to the left. The allen key bent when i was tightening it up, then it stripped, twice, so i can't take it apart and sort the hop untill i get some new allen keys. Link to post Share on other sites

I mean sure, realism is great, I'm all for it. . but when airsoft guns start costing (retail) 3 times as much as a real steel. . it's rediculous. It's like buying a Tanio Koba 10/22 for $1100 (depends on model, some ARE cheaper) when you can get a Ruger 10/22 for $160. Paying $1000 for an AK kit. . you might as well fork out a little more for the PDI or G&P Dragunov SVD. There's an AK source on Ebay that sells all kits of various aks (101,103,akm, akms, ak47, AK74, AKS74U, etc). He sells folding metal skeleton stock (AKS74u), folding solid AKM/103 stocks, handguards for all. . a little modification is all that's needed to make them fit. . . if you ask me, having a modified real steel beats Guarder ###### anyday of the week. THEN, you can truly call your gun CUSTOM. btw, I was quoted only $150 shipped for a AKS74U metal folding stock with hinge and all mounting parts. This is direct from Russia too! For one, every time I took it out, rabid AK fans would swarm me and start rubbing it. Creepy. Two, I wouldn't want to hurt it. I'd probably keep it in a silk cradle and feed it the finest silicone oil while singing to it O_o ...okay, that's all a lie, I'd take it out and shoot it like a maniac. the cleaner Posted January 28, 2005 Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 Kronic, the folding stock alone is only $65. .it's the hinge assembly and hardware that's the expensive part. $150 shipped from Russia is dirt cheap. . .you figure alot of airsoft stocks (ex. LR300) sells for $120 in Hong Kong without shipping. I'd prefer buying real steel accessories and using ingenuity and craftsmanship to make an AKS74U. I can put together an airsoft AKS74U for under $250 where you paid over $500 (is that about right or more)? It's far too easy to just fork out dough and buy a kit. . not too custom there. When you fail horribly, then you can look to Guarder Why would one waste their time making something that's already available in kit form? That's no fun, it's a waste of time, energy, and money. And in most cases, the kit will be better quality. Hell why don't we all get some sheet metal and milling machines and just make our own custom guns! And lastly, not everyone can buy a real AK, I know we (california) can't, and neither can our UK friends. Who cares what the real thing cost, it's a completely different area of discussion. They retail for £65 including the stock. Yes i know the real mount brackets are expensive, but i didn't think you were talking about them, because as far as airsoft goes, they're out of the question. But it's also a lot of work... Unless you have access to high end machining equipment and have the know-how to use it the Guarder kit is your best bet for quality, not to mention that once you put a real steel receiver on it it's considered a firearm in the states Link to post Share on other sites

If I have the knowledge and capability, then why would it be a waste of my time? I take alot of pride in my work. I've made airsoft parts and custom guns that surpass alot of mass produced kits. Fail? the only time I'll fail on a project is because I'll have another project I want to work on, not because I can't accomplish it. Thanks for the faith though. hahahaha. .. We all can't buy real AKs, but we sure can buy real parts. . .you and I know that even in CA, we can buy an AK if we really wanted one. . there's so many loopholes in the system. . you can buy a flat sheet AK receiver with all the holes and such . ..without a license. .legally. . it's just, if we bend the receiver and install the parts, then it becomes illegal. Anyhow, I say, if you have the knowledge and capabilities to do your own custom work. . power to you. . obviously it's not for you or alot of others. (sorry for the bad picture.. you can't see the stock latch there but it's there) Now on the real steel one, i see a grand total of zero room for the gear box. Still... it doesn closely follow the real steel.... hmmz i swear we're just going in one HUGE circle here. If you can buy the kit buy it. If you can't find a cheaper way. See picture, it was a bargain compared to the Guarder kits.
