-Angel-
All the same, there are still a lot of good people like yourselves, no? Oh, certainly. I'm lucky to live and work in an affluent part of the country where social decline is minimal (on face value atleast). However, its one of those things you will never see statistics for. Its not something that is brought to public attention; the number of permenantly unemployed, number of single mothers on child benefits, etc. Or indeed the nationality of the claimants. Something tells me that comprahensive figures on those things would raise more questions than they answer.
Chimpy
Benefit fraud costs this country a lot less than corporate tax fraud... just sayin'. The estimates on it if you are really interested are here: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/asd/asd2/fraud_error.asp There are a metric *fruitcage*ton of other stats here: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/asd/statistics_a_to_z.asp
GuzziHero
I can believe it. Why do you think that I believe that dissolution of corporations is the key to democracy?

Thanks chimpy. I'm well aware of the numbers involved in large company finances, and how things can 'disappear' or be 'written off' if neccesary (such as certain tax requirements). It helps your sanity to think about it as 'numbers' rather than 'money' . We'll never be told the true cost of certain factors within our society. If fraudulent benefit claims account for 0.001% of of our countries spending, people will start to wonder, where the *fruitcage* does all the rest of the money go then? The same is true of illegal immigration and its related legal, exportation and control costs. Thats what I was eluding to when I said "more questions than answers".
Chimpy
I can believe it. Why do you think that I believe that dissolution of corporations is the key to democracy? It's literally orders of magnitude larger than the cost of benefit fraud. I'm not anti-capitalist in any sense but I do perceive it as somewhat unjust that so many people pick on benefit cheats in lieu of trying to sort out the elephant hogging the room.
