quinch
Crud! I think I did some training there...anywhere "Eastbourne-ish" by any chance? Might not be same place but looks familiar.
Shriven
Spetz has it: These are still technically classified sites, you have no idea how much *suitcase* we've had to go through to get these sites, and then that again to take pictures of it. We've even had to security check serving UK soldiers. Basically, these sites have kept out of the public eye for.. erm, ever, and the range commander wants to keep it that way. I have no idea what level of security the check gives, we hand over the names to the Army, they go away for 2 weeks, and come back and say "yesyesyesyesyesnoyesyesyesyesno" EDIT: Nope, it's near Lydd. Dragunov63
Seems silly to me. Its only bloody buildings when alls said and done, not like its a radar installation or listening post. But that's the bloody military for ya. Nige

Shriven
I swear to god that's where I did my optag training a few months ago. Didn't know it was getting shut down. Very likely that you did, Hythe/Lydd ranges is optag-tastic, we've actually nabbed one of the optag guys for a series of training days we intend to run. Also, where did you get "it's closing" from? Afaik, the sites are still in use, heavily, but all of the defence estates have been told by the MOD to make as much money as possible, hence these sites being offered to us. Eugene_Stoner
any more news on this Shriv?
Shriven
Our first game at Rype ( limited to 40) was a roaring sucess: People who've played Copehill and Senny were impressed. Rype isn't like CHD or Celeni insofar that they are purpose built and are essentially empty shells of buildings. You could ACTUALLY live in Rype, fireplaces, cupboards under the stairs, nice gardens, everything... More pictures of all our events and of the Rype village here We are currently in the process of finalising the rules for the weekend event, but some things have already been set: The weekend will cost £99, this includes 2 meals cooked on the ranges, quite possibly by the Gurkhas who are based nearby and we're friendly with, and barracks for people to sleep in! It will be "Milsim-lite": Tactical rules of conduct, limited ammo, sections, COs, 24 hour gaming, medics actually having to apply bandages, camouflage restrictions but you will not be restricted on what mags your ammo is in and you won't have to lie down on the cold concrete when hit! More information here on the Invicta Airsoft forum
Shriven
Outside the edit window: Meant to say that Rype ISN'T empty shells: Double glazing, nice fireplaces, proper Victorian terraces!
