bankz5152
Just what was told to me by an old friends dad, who had many many guns. I think it may also to be due to import taxes and the such. I had my eye on an SL9 (bolt action only)
shmook
you can have a spas 12 on an FAC, not shotgun cert. same as benelli M3 really, or other semi auto or pump action. you can get pumps and semi auto's on a shotty cert, but limited to 3 rounds max (2 in the mag, one in the breech) and they cant have detachable magazines on a shotgun ticket (eg saiga 12). you can have bolties of any calibre, but i think there is a restriction on mag capacity, not sure about that though. ive not really looked into rifles/FAC yet as only just got my shotty ticket! shootersluck
Those who are interested should get themselves down to their local gun shop and ask about gun clubs in their area. It's possible to own and shoot more than people seem to think. The '97 ban didn't completely ban pistols. Pre 1919 pistols can be owned on a section 7 collectors licence and if kept at an Historic Shooting Centre can still be shot. Muzzle loading pistols, which includes cap and ball revolvers, weren't affected by the ban and can be converted to accept nitro powder. Long barrelled revolvers and pistols are now in common use because they fit the legal definition of a rifle. The majority of ex pistol shooters now shoot gallery rifle, which is rifles, usually lever action, in pistol calibres or use long barrelled revolvers. Semi auto has only been legal in 22rf since Hungerford but if you want a version of your favourite military rifle to shoot you can have it in straight pull or in .22rf. Military ranges accept rifles up to .577 calibre tho higher power rifles such as the .50 barret will need to be taken to specialist ranges. Old military bolt actions are still quite cheap and there are always other 2nd hand rifles available. The kit needn't cost any more than airsoft and is often cheaper. Ammunition costs can be reduced by reloading except for .22rf which is dirt cheap anyway. It isn't as easy to get an FAC or a SGC as it used to be but it is possible. It's also worth remembering that they need a damn good reason to refuse and that if they do you can fight it. I've had an FAC since the early '80s and it's been a constant battle with the police who seem to enjoy making life difficult but it's worth it.

Not to ###### on your chips or anything but I think its unlikely you'll be able to own (keep at home) those guns whilst living in greater london without jumping through some hoops. I'm also pretty sure you need to have a FAC for a period of a year or 2 atleast before you can buy something like a lee enfield.

Remember your FAC is for 5 years. You should apply for the firearms you expect to buy in that period. The police will try to persuade you otherwise but if you can show competitions you plan to enter with each firearm and where you will use them as well as detailing your current experience with each class of firearm you shouldn't have too much difficulty. If you have a friend that shoots it's often more convenient to store firearms there. The easiest way is to install a safe that he doesn't have access to.
