Forum updates, feedback system and new versions

    By Arnie

Firstly I'm going to try to document forum updates and other work completed to the site here in my forum blog. This will keep all the forum related updates in one place.   I've completed several updates to the forums today. We're now running the latest IPS versions for Gallery and Blog. There should be several bug fixes and feature adjustments with these new versions; I don't get a list I'm afraid or I'd publish it.   I've also taken comments on the trading system on board and we now have a

Inconvenient Timing, Fatal Ironing.

For varying reasons I am both happy and sad that I'll be getting a Marui M3 shorty in a day or two. If I'd said `another marui M3 shorty` you might guess one reason why I'm not so happy about it, and a further irritation is the fact that I bought it only so that I could bosh a Smokeys rear grip to it and have an actual nice-looking Shorty M3 So after trying to fit it onto my full-size M3 I can see its gonna need some bloody awkward drilling, but hey-ho; this is merely an inconvenience of techni

I ain't that easy, love!

Just thought I'd pen a quick line or two about the results of that date, and the one tonight as well that has just ended. My god I'm pleased with myself not going for a girl just because, well, she's a girl   Having noticed how unenthusiastic she is about everything bar her own narrow preconceived field of recreation, and how condescending she can be about pretty much anything, especially about any personal details of mine that come up in the conversation, I can happily say that I am gonna be

Tanaka Redeemed - M700 A.I.C.S. FTW dudes...

Good things come to those who wait, and I've waited long enough. I figured a good thing or two was on the cards and my prayers have been answered (thanks, Satan) and the M700 AICS was finally re-released by Tanaka. Thank *fruitcage*. Now I don't have to buy an APS2 Type96 bloody spring rifle and throw another £250 at it just to make it almost as good as this   Incidentally, I'm actually writing most of this up from an internet cafe for which I am paying by the hour just to bring you the wonde

Assault & Battery II

Woah - Arnies bloggers seem to be breeding or something (an idea I take umbrage with seeing as I ain't getting any action from it ) as bo0mer (what? Changed his name? Oh, right ) Sorry, Belladonna has joined the bloglist, as has the Mighty Moderating Powerhungry Ranger that is R22Master. Welcome, gentlemen, welcome indeed   Hmm. Less than 24 hours until I have a Tanaka M700 AICS in my inevitably sweaty fisties. MMMMmmm-MMmmm yessirey, thats gonna make me into one big-*albartroth* real-life

The end of the Summer

Well, it's been a trying time. Work commitments have seen me taken away from the forums for a while, but I'm back, and I'm BAAAAD! (In the words of "Kryten" from "Red Dwarf" )   Anyway, in the last month I've had the unhappy duty of banning several scammers, spammers, idiots, and other people who wish to just cause our community harm. Why do they do it? At the moment, we have more than 20 thousand members from all over the world, yet 4 or 5 of them each month seem hell-bent on posting abso

First and Only

Yesterday i played at first and only airsoft adventures. Best - day - ever!   The site is truly fantastic with dense woodland, large hills and a complex vietnam style bunker complex. But what i found most amazing was the marshalls. The site owner - "Gucci" - is the stuff of legends, with the funniest safety brief i have ever heard. The lads there seemed like players first and marshalls seconds, something thats allways a plus. Ecspecially after playing paintball where the marshalls viewed it on

A Case of Guilty Conscience.

I'm going to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil (mostly) and I will be the happiest mutherf***er in the world once I am there. This is a clear statement of fact because this is a dream I've been longing for and carefully nurturing for years; and I'm going on a preliminary trip, before Christmas with a bit of luck, to scout the area and general scenery out (or possibly the other side of South America through Bolivia and parts of Peru, as it happens).   This may have something to do with airsoft y

Much Walting...

I've finally got round to writing up the blogs on whats happening or going through my head. Don't worry, they're not worth reading   I've had the most walty week yet, i'm sure.   Wednesday = Paintball   Result:     Speedball REALLY hurts. I take back what i said last week. Getting shot in normal paintball is fine. But playing speedball against a load of S&M nutters with loaded hoppers is a recipe for pain. However, reputation at stake, i held back the tears, screamed out the

Getting better all the time...

How things have changed! When i started reading up on airsoft the newest gun was the Tokyo Marui M203 and the TOP M60. By god things have moved on fast... Everything seems, just "better" if that makes sense?   There's AEGs with spring release catches, CNC gearboxes, quick change springs, recoiling bolts, split gearboxes even a mechanical 3 round burst at long last. The Tokyo Marui type 89 even has magazines that feed every last BB in the mag. M4's are no longer limited to taking silly 600mAh

The L word

Stumbled across this the other day:   http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/L_Series   The pretty much complete listing of all the designations of weapons in UK service.     Looking through, there seems to be much more options for brit airsoft loadouts than originally thought.   "L1A1 Rifle, 7.62mm" = http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...showtopic=76243 Conversion kit for the Sig AEG. Or even :http://www.shootnscoot.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54   "L2A1 Submachine Gun" = http

Now I have a machine gun. Ho. Ho. Ho.

Hokay, so......   First update in a while. I'm back in the UK, and have been for the last month. All in all, Greece was *beep*. No airsoft. No Dr Pepper. No cute girlfriend. Boss was an ######. Night in greek jail, followed by voluntary exit from country after boss refused to organise work permit, preferring instead to hire another sucker. Blew most of my savings from the job returning.   All in all, not cool. However, I now have a new job and I am slowly building up my savings again, whi

Err, yeah...

So, err, blog. Forgot about this - my devART and Red vs Blue journals are bad enough   From my last update, everything's changed, so let's just say I'm looking forward to a good blast at Op: Vortex this coming weekend. Should be "bostin'" as they say down that way.

Rate of Fire

For a while now I've been including Rate of Fire (ROF) as Rounds Per Minute figures on the reviews I do of select fire guns.   The way I do this is documented somewhere on the forum, but I can't find it, so I'll describe it.   Basically, I connect a microphone to my PC and fire up the excellent freeware program Audacity, which is available on Linux and Windows (probably Mac, too, if you must ).   I then load up the gun and, holding the slide lock down, rattle out a few seconds of sho

One Step Programme

Anyone with knowledge (whether remembered or reminded) that they have done some, if not all the things this guy does, while drunk at an office party or official function or any kind of formal situation, guiltily raise your hands now..     http://www.cracked.com/modules.php?op=modl...article&sid=729     Aw, man. I don't do that right now at the moment, and its reassuring to know that after watching it But yeah, I have my hand raised high and its handy to have something like that to r

The Parcel Farce Charm Offensive

Did I say charming? Yeah, and I actually meant it as well, which may come as a surprise but I have come to the opinion of late that the old buggers at ParcelForce really aren't that bad - of all the horror stories I have heard I have never had any of the relevant problems myself, and to be honest I think a lot of it simply comes down to how you deal with them: I always get what I want by being polite and very pleasant, but obstinate enough to get what I want to happen, happen..   Last Thursd

Announcing: The Smith & Wesson Collection!

Wow, 'Hippy got some actual Airsoft stuff to talk about, huh?? Yeah I know its been lacking lately, despite the purchases I have actually been making (I did mention that WA Beretta Scoremaster I got, didn't I? Well its beautiful, so there ).   So now I have some truly wonderful news; thanks to the mighty Snowman (No, not my local Coke-dealer ) I will finally have one of the guns I had forever written off as unattainable - the much-prized and highly sought-after Maruzen Skorpion, A.K.A. the

Weirder than Weird

I managed to blag a job off another arnies member - "Felix Jaeger" and it's the most surreal experience ever. Finding bbs in desk drawers, a copy of AI lying around and a TM P226 in a laptop case. I've never met another 'softer anywhere local, so i've spent the past day chatting guns with him. Very weird   Also - a new site is FINALLY opening up near me. About a 20 minute drive rather than a 1 hour trek. Perhaps they have marshalling jobs going......   Most of my belt-kit arrived, i boug

Pain-ball

A while back one of my friends remarked that they'd "try anything once," which i must admit was fairly off-putting... but it does seem like a good way to live life. A few weeks back, in Corfu, i thought i'd turn my hand to kayaking, parascending and waterskiing - although of which i was utterly useless at and then it hit me. As much as i've slagged it off in the past, i've never played paintball....   Now that's kinda odd in some ways, as most airsoft players tend to be ex paintballers. So i

Wandering Weekender

Madness - why is it that when you have one really good prospect for an evening's entertainment about a dozen more turn up to contest it's worthiness?? This weekend seemed to be the very definition of selective socialising. I decided to go with the rarest in all cases just so I had something new under my belt, as it were. This breadth of experience now includes fishing. Fancy that.   I never saw the point of fishing; you can sit for hours by the side of a large body of water with a bit of l

Abstinence in the face of Absurdity.

I've been getting out of airsoft for about 4 months now. Strange as this may seem, but I do actively try and spend as little time thinking about it as I conceivably can, although at the moment this is by definition a process I find counterintuitive because I use the interest and the buzz (you all know what I mean ) of buying and planning new gear, and adding or creating whole collections, to escape from the unwarranted stress and unnecessary overesponsibilities of work when we are busy (which i

*Sigh* Women.

***DISCLAIMER: Men have their problems too, don't get me wrong, but they don't control people just to prove that they can control people.***   Still no camera since the boss lost our last one, so no real meat of a review to be done on the SW1911 DX, which is a shame because its a rather lovely gun. Even more lovely is the Beretta Scoremaster I snagged on the same delivery, and paid £100 in lovely HMR&C's `enjoyment taxes`, as I like to think of them But more on theses as I can actually

Work, Schmirk!

So its that time of the year again, all the kids are off school (the lucky little ingrates ) and because of the trade we are in these days; our customers mostly being homeowners who're also family couples, or landscapers working for the more affluent homeowners/family couples; and with the kid's annual 6-week sortie into the regrettably less-than-hostile territory of their parent's wallets underway, most of these venerable progenitors have clutched sprogs by their sticky mitt's and whisked them

There must be an easier way....

Today was time to fit some new parts to my M16 carbine. Now i'm trying to get the sucker to take an SA80 sling, which meant buying two new side mounted sling adapters. £20 well spent....   In the past i've been a bit over ambitious with gun-modding, but these seemed simple enough jobs. The rear sling loop went on fine. But the front one, damn. Trying to hit out pins, with sod all proper tools was fun. "Fun" in a kind of "how am i going to hide the dents in the dinner table from my parents?" k
