Rapier
airsoft GI UTG AK47 Â Airsoft GI says on their sales page they don't think the gearbox will hold up to upgrades. I think I'm going to go ahead and get a Matrix AK and a TM gearbox for it.

3vi1-D4n
I have a feeling its just fear. Â On Chinese websites people have upgraded the UTG AK (as the Double eagle M86 or Well R7) with M120s and metal bushings. Â http://www.1v1.cn/html/2005-12/138p5.htm
irme77
My neighbors are ordering 2 UTG ak47's so i will offer a review soon, and probably with some high-resolution pictures  I am a proud owner of the UTG mp5, mine works good and my brother's gearbox jammed but was fixable (currently rewiring aswell)  I cant wait to see how good this AK could be

El_Hombre
For everyone that already has the UTG AK (probably few, I know), how does the selector lever feel? Is it "mushy" like people have complained of on the UTG MP5?
whogben
This is an unashamed *BUMP* Â Here are my thoughts so far, just rambling here: Â On shortyUSA there was this interesting piece in the description: "Performance: After extensive performance testing we have come to the conclusion that the UTG AK-47 offers the same all around performance as a Marui for half the price." Â A good sign since the previous description of a prototype model said it had inferior stock performance to a TM AK - so I guess they improved it for the final production model. A good sign for sure. Â Also, I worried that it might have the same crummy mags as the UTG MP5, shorty says specifically otherwise: "The two 600 round high capacity magazines that are included have reliable feeding on both semi and full auto." Â I will wait on my purchase, its good to see what other issues might occur. I'm also interested in seeing what the chances of getting a lemon are (seemed like a high rate of lemons with the MP5, and it would be a bore to keep sending it back till chance lands me with a good one). I'm interested to see what kind of upgrades people are able to work on these. With non-lemon MP5s it seems most could take M100 with just a rewiring. I don't know if the AK will be cheaper to upgrade than the MP5 - but airsoftGI states that the gears are of a higher quality, perhaps with brushings re-shim and rewiring the AK will drive M110 or M120? I'll wait and see. Â It should be known that AirsoftGI also states that the AK is unlikely to be upgradable - but they make the same claim on the MP5, which did not turn out to be accurate - many thanks to the 56 pages of StaticZeros excellent UTG MP5 upgrade thread on ArniesAirsoft - this is an excellent resource for upgrading your MP5, I've read every page of it and I recommend it to anyone who owns or is considering a UTG AEG. Still, it is worth considering their claim that the AK may not be able to withstand many upgrades - so if upgrading is important to you, make sure to wait and see what upgrades other people implement - and that means waiting to see how many rounds their upgraded gun survives as well - I doubt I'm going to get one before the summer if I follow my own advice. Â The accessories it comes with, the carry handle and the rail mount, are both pretty ugly on it - I doubt I'll use either, so its a shame that buyers have to pay for them in the package. Â From what I've heard the body is very solid, with nice looking faux wood furniture (looks aren't too big an issue for me, but for those who care, they are as realistic as the TM wood furniture) I'm glad the receiver top is metal - seems like if there's one piece right in front of my eyes from a fighting position its that one Other than the receiver top, I don't remember what else is metal, I think the back-plate of the stock is and the external barrel perhaps - don't quote me on that. Â According to the shorty review, you can fit a 3300MAH battery in the stock, and the gun shoots as accurately and fast as the TM version, so it is almost certainly skirmishable against most stock TMs, I guess the rest depends on upgradability. Â Hypothetical issues I would look out for: The mags might wobble? I heard they do in the TM version and this is a pretty close copy, so maybe the same issue. The selector switch movement might wear a slice into the body and then not stick in its little ruts - might be avoidable if you pull out on it slightly as you move it. Five-Five_Sixer
I got mine this afternoon! Now, this is my first airsoft weapon so i'm not gonna be able to tell you all mthe stuff you want to know and ive only fired maybe 40 shots but here goes: Â the build quality IS nice. its heavy got quite a bit of metal on it too. ill make a list later but its at least the barrel selecter switch (whitch clicks and has some resistance-nice) bolt butt plate and more. and the plastic is good quality. The only problem so far is thet there is a seam from the butt of the gun down to the end of the stock and it is kind of cracked open about 1/8 of an inch but when i checked again after firing it was nt open anymore, so im not sure about that ill get back to you. The mags have worked flawlessly so far. Like i said i havent shot much just what the battery was precharged with which wasnt a lot and towards the end it started only shooting semi auto. i took a few pictures but it wont let me upload them . ill try again later or tomorrow and ill try and shoot a soda can or something too and try and get some accuracy ratings. also any questions or requests and ill try it out. Â i have a question that probly anyone but me knows the answer to: How do i work the sling? Im sure its the same as the other ones. im confused by it though. it seems to have an excess of...stuff. and its hard to know what t adjust and how its supposed to sit. i thought it was just a strap that goes from one end to the other and you stick your arm and sholder in it but it seems more complex than that. I guess thats why its a 'tactical' sling. so can anybody make a diagram or something? id be very gratefful.
dryrot141
But you failed to answer the question thats weighing deeply on everyone's minds: Â Does it look like THIS?????
Five-Five_Sixer
good gawd no! it comes with the tri rail on it but it looks easily removable with some screws- in fact im gonna take it off right now. i was reluctant at firdst because of all the tiny screws but im gonna give it a go. update in a couple mins. Â edit- Â okay well i took out the 4 screws on the side of the tri rail thingy and the 2 side rails came out but the center one is still on and i dont see any other screws.... however airsoft atlanta hada picture of the ak with it off, so thwere must be a way. g-unit
Do you have any issues with firing semi-auto (respond after your battery is fully charged)? Some reviewers on shortys says sem-auto does not work that well or something. What about range? Is it really 150 feet about like shortys says?
Five-Five_Sixer
well when it wasnt fully charged i wouldnt say that there was much delay. maybe a little but i couldnt see it firing so i could only go by the difference in time between pulling the trigger hearing it shoot and hearing it hit something 50 feet away. I dont know about the range at all i didnt even adjust the hop up. i will answer this better tomorrow.  edit- unrelated but i just noticed  put the battry back in the crack in the stock is gone. you can still see where the 2 pieces meet but cant see the battery. there is a metal part on top of a plastic part for the main body and the metal part moves around a tad but only if you try and fisicly grab and move it around. Photobucket is good because it allows you to hot-link full-sized photos. (meaning people will be able to see them here)  <IMG>image url</IMG> is the code you use to show the picture, replacing "< >" with "[ ]"  To get an images URL, right click the picture, go to "properties", and copy and paste the URL
staticzero
Tomorrow i will post 6.3 megapixel pictures for you guys to drool over. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> FFS please don't post them in the tread full size. Scale them down to 640x480 or something sensible and post those. Link to the full size versions or to the album with the full versions if you wish but don't just slap huge pics in the thread. Putting huge pictures in a thread makes the it annoying to read (it gets stretched out so you have to scroll horizontally to read anything) and slow to load (even for those with fast connections). Avoid!
Tef
im more interested in does TM mags work well with them, in one review it say it doesnt, but on A2's poster, it say it can.
Five-Five_Sixer
okay ive been trying for like 20 minutes to get the last screw out of the tri rail and it hasnt budged... any ways to remove stubborn screws? it hasnt been stripped too much.
kiblets
AA's poster is the original release one from UTG, so whatevers on that it what is right. Five-Five Sixer - Use a bigger screwdriver and push really hard so it dosent slip off the screwhead :s , other than that, if you can get at the screwhead and have a dremel, cut a straight groove for a flathead screwdriver (if the thread gets totally demolished) although thats really a last ditch resort.
