doc_newstead
Went to this today, and apart from sweating a lot, I had good chance to perv at lots of gear and see things for myself. Here's what I made of the whole shebang. Doc is hitting... - genuine ACU's at a few stalls IRR patches, cost enough (£100 for a jacket and trousers) and looked and felt the part. First off, it does look "like it does in the photos", so I guess I don't need to book myself in for that eye appointment quite yet But what a garment; pen holders? Little IR patches that cover up? Slots for elbow and kneepads? Funky collar? Pockets coming out the wazzoo?! I was very tempted... The sellers tended to be from the continent I noticed; coincidence? - old US patterns going cheap! US Woodland and 3-colour desert, £10 for a set. Still has the nametapes on - flecktarn going £2 for a set. That's £1 for the shirt, £1 for the trousers. If I hadn't recently been appalled by how much kit I own, I would have snapped me up some. - Genuine MARPAT. Had the EGA on it, and the 'Buzz Off' label. Probably no cheaper than it'd cost from the shops, but still worth a fondle. - Replica Dennison smocks; About £200, a bit cack, and wouldn't fit in with anything else I own. I'll take two please. - desert DPM is in. Saw a lot of shemaghs, those silly shorts and desert shirts around the place. Show your support for our troops by exposing your beergut in style! - Tanked-off looking guy in temperate MARPAT, CB kit, the lot. Was it you, and why the long face? - Belgian smocks. I laughed, and so did my missus. Quite faded alas, but it would certainly raise eyebrows down the pub. - DPM vest with PALS on the back. I tried not to stare, but it was too late. That's all Did you go? Did you a see a fat man with a Camelbak on? Then why the hell didn't you say hello?!
Maple-Leaf
Thanks for the heads-up Doc. I was hoping to go and pose in my HyperStealth camo - but alas, twas not to be becuase of the delays...
doc_newstead
Do check out the ACU's if you go. One stall had quite a bit of Spec Ops kit, and it was run by (I think) a couple of older Dutch men. I can't swear it wasn't replica, but it said 'Not Replica!' (not legally binding I assume), had the little black squares everyone raves about (you could cover them up with a velcro tape), and I gave it a good feel; it felt solid. Didn't seem to have a label in the neck either. Should have took a photo really... The paler colour in the pixels was sandy, which is also encouraging, yes? Be interested to know if they were the real McCoy. I reckon they woz.
Guest
I'm off to it tomorrow, did you see any vietnam gear? I might have to get me a set of tri-colour too for that price!
doc_newstead
I'm off to it tomorrow, did you see any vietnam gear? I might have to get me a set of tri-colour too for that price! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, quite a bit. I had a nosey, but it's not really my scene A few stalls seemed to specialise in it. I didn't notice as many 'Nam re-enactors this time, bar a few 'advisors' and a pair of 'Rangers' that spoke in heavy Northern accents
Guest
Hehehe, good stuff. I'll hopefully be picking up some VN gear, a dessie boonie of sorts and maybe some gucci Brit stuff And if I get lured in, I may be tempted to purchase some of them there airsoft gunz or deacs.
doc_newstead
Another thing; one stall had a lot of German WW2/50's era camo. It didn't look cheap, but they had those spotty SS types (excuse my ignorance) in quite a few schemes (seasonal?). Looked very bright, and I was wearing sunglasses
Maple-Leaf
There's always loads of spotty SS types around...
Guest
I went today and it was pretty good and I came back with a hefty amount of gear (an entire 'nam loadout) . I saw AA there and *albatross* too, also this cool little custom shoppy thing called AGIC Airsoft who customize whatever guns you want with whatever you want. Well anyway, I bought: Vietnam stuff: 1x 56 pistol belt 1x 56 suspenders 2x Universal ammo pouche 2x 56 canteen covers 2x Canteen 1x Canteen cup 1x M1911A1 holster 1x M1911A1 mag pouch 1x 61 butt pack 1x M16 bayonet 1x M16 bayonet sheeth 1x 5.56 bandolier 2x Strippers of 10 5.56 rounds 10x .45 rounds 1x Original OD jungle shirt 1x Repro OD jungle trousers 1x Pair of original jungle boots 1x Repro OD boonie 1x Original M1 helmet with cover 1x 67 canteen cover (I replaced it with the 56s) 1x Dutch canteen (looks like the vietnam canteens) Other: 1x Tricolour boonie (proper one) 1x Desert DPM boonie (proper issue too) Hehehe

Guest
Just a few bits and pieces... Pics can be found in half the picture threads (gear thread, new acquisitions)
Tommygunn
SS 'peas' pattern. 1943 ochre dominant, 1944 pink dominant.
Azulsky
I find it interesting how alot of UK guys are kinda fascinated by Vietnam.
Guest
There's not that many of us And anyway it's cheaper and looks better than all these fancy "high speed low drag molle pals dooda rigs/plate carrier/vest/ebay/SAS/delta/l@@k!" Oh I think I saw that DPM molle/Pals vest too Doc, I was walking along and the DPM caught my eye, then I went "WTF?" looked at it and went "ok... That's odd" then I went away and bought a load of vietnam stuff Some guy wanted £30 for an M1911A1 mag, £30! I didn't find those Tri-colour sets for £10, where abouts were they? I found sets for £20, but meh. And the amount of welded AKs there was saddening Welded deac's suck balls. There was a lot of DPM and Dessie DPM, but I already have that, so gave it a miss. I should have spent a bit more time looking at the US WW2 gear (already got a full set of the Brit stuff) and the Woodland/Tri-colour gear, but I was too enthrawled in finding all the Vietnam stuff
Chimpy
More importantly did anyone take any pictures. Interested to see how the ABA section turned out in the end.
Dentonboy
Frenchie was on fine form there! Too many SS fanatics there this year (what is with that?).... I saw that Dutch Spec-ops stand; real IR strobes, the gear etc.... CIRAS rigs for £145 at A2..... Loads of digital camo of all the usual shades, from £15-£50. And a hung-over red-haired stall holder just down from the ABA Arena, whose sales technique went something like this: "Aaargh, I can't be f*****g a***d man, whatever you want man, I don't care and I ain't f****g bothered, MARPAT trousers? I don't care, whatever; £20, f**k it, it is too f**king hot....etc!" Run, run away now! He could have been related to Ozzy in hindsight!
maccrage
*sigh* I wish they had shows like this in Hawaii. I have to get all my gear online. I prefer to look it over and fondle - I mean inspect it first.
Guest
Funilly enough I didn't take any pictures other than the ones of my gear at the end Though I did spend most of my time in the stalls.
Maple-Leaf
Damn - couldn't make it down after all. Had to negotiate a big patch of deep standing water yesterday after the deluge, and it ripped a panel loose on the underside of the car. Incedentally, it took the RAC 3 hours to show up!!! The guy spent about 10 minutes tying the panel up so it didn't drag on the floor anymore - and that held for about 50 miles.
Moddy
It was awesome, I lubbed it. Only spent 3 hours there (Heat + Soldier 95's != Nice) and got myself a set of DPM PLCE among other things. I got alot of pictures, mainly of tanks and the re-enactors. I'll upload some. I saw those AEG's you all warned me about - a G36 for £10! I didn't look twice at them... (http://www.actionhobbys.co.uk/contentitempage.aspx?contentid=203634 Was the G36) You dont know how hard it was for me to walk past them though.. I need to make some Airsoft purchases soon (I just have the gear, no guns as of yet ) and I think a G36 will be the first gun I purchase. I should've looked there... doc: Doc, you say you where there on the 21st (Friday?), and are a fat guy with a camel bak? Uhmm.....
doc_newstead
I took pics, but not of stalls. Just Land Rovers I also made a point of avoiding the airsoft stalls (sorry ).
Moddy
I took pics, but not of stalls. Just Land Rovers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I have about 5 of one land rover! xD I didnt see anyone else taking pictures which surprised me as it was full of so many different picture opportunities.
Maple-Leaf
Not a Land Rover..... WOW!!
doc_newstead
Hehe, got one of that, but your pic is much better. Looks like HaVoC bought that ACU by the way... Many an eye was rolled I didn't know where to post my pics. They're not of kit really, and I didn't fancy starting a new thread in the pics section.
Maple-Leaf
Get some kit!
