Hustie
Very nice. Did he say what parts failed? Some paintball gun parts might fit as it seems to be modeled after a standard open bolt system that is very common in PB guns. One last thing: What did the guy say about the recoil ? nighthawk1221
silas what do you mean before it died? like something failed on it and the 470 broke? or like they got it running before it ran out of gas? or osmething like that? and any clue where we could buy the external rig adapter?
Silas5150
Actually, he didn't mention, and I didn't probe. Oh, he meant by "died" that it broke. I'm sure finding an adaptor shouldn't be hard. I'll ask him about this stuff the next chance I get. Oh, and I'll comment on the recoil when I mess with it tomorrow!
siege_bison
Hi, Anyone know of any stockists? AirsoftGI site won't let me checkout and they've never replied to one of my emails in last 3 months!
nighthawk1221
i think the reason why is there is only going to be a limited run of the 470 and it's a possibility that all units are already preordered, but i have no facts to back it up just speculation. on another not, silas! did u get it today? first impressions?? first shots?? we want to know!!!
Silas5150
Sigh. Just got it. It's VERY, VERY heavy. At least twice as heavy as a normal gearbox. I installed it with great difficulty, the primary problem being the fire selector. The selector plate came pre-installed, which was nice, but it was very hard to get the blasted thing in with a CA M15A4. I finally got it in, got everything ready, and I charged the handle. I went outside to shoot, and on my first shot, there was a nice "put", but nothing came out. Confused, I tried again, and I got a "put....phhhththttt" Kind of like a full auto sound. I didn't know what went wrong, so I dissasembled down to the new gearbox again, and inspected it. Something went wrong inside, and the cocking lever on the box is no longer under tension, and the trigger sears seemed to have disconnected. I don't know what to say. I sent an e-mail to madbull, and I really hope they can help me out. It sounded nice, and recoil was decent, like a GBB with a stock on it. Overall, I was very impressed....until it broke. I'll write up a review when I get it working. Good luck installing guys!
BakaBox
Waiting years for a faulty product can't be fun...
nighthawk1221
silas, the sound u tried to explain sounds quite like what would happen to a paintball gun when it's low on gass. the bolt doesn't have enough gas to blowback and relatch. that may be the problem. maybe try again with a fresh cartridge? when this happens, the trigger sears sometimes become non responsive. usually to fix it ( on my semi-auto co2 paintball gun) just put in a fresh tank with more co2 in it. give it a try and let me know how it worked. im getting mine in tommorow and putting it also into a m15a4 so we'll see if i have the same difficulties of installation as you did. i have a question though, what type of 12 gram co2 cartridges did u buy? i have a set of crossman's thinking they'll do good. the only other brand i can remmebr is brass eagle
Silas5150
I used Crossmans too. I screwed the capsule in as tight as I could manually, so it shouldn't have been an issue. The problem no is, before I used to be able to pull the lever back and release it by pulling the trigger, but now it won't even do that. It's okay though, I e-mailed madbull, and he told be to send it in ASAP, but I live about 15 miles away from where he wanted me to mail it, so I'm just going to drop by. You have more experience with paintball guns, so you shouldn't have any problems. Just be careful when installing the mechbox. It is REALLy difficult to get it in because the fireselector on the metal body is slightly larger than is necessary, and makes the fit extremely tight. I deformed mine slightly putting it in and taking it out.
Hustie
Hmm, deciding between this and a TM T89 is a real *badgeress*.
nighthawk1221
i wonder if you use a stock aeg selector plate would it still work? cuz it's not too hard to replace that off a mechbox and if it still functions the same with the og selector plate maybe ill just replace it so i won't have to much clearence problem. its cool you live so close, where is madbull located anywayz? cuz if i have a problem im headed down to socal sometime next month and can visit them and see if i could get it fixed. or airsoft gi for and exchange or something lol hustie, didn't the t89 just come out? i guess it's a new design mechbox, but didn't they have the same 3 round burst for the mp5-J and the sig552 models? how did they get those to work without a mechanical 3 round burst? and as for deciding, u may have to decide quick cuz i think agi may soon take the 470 off their page, cuz i remember seeing a email from madbull saying the 470 is only going to be a limited run
lsniperxl
The Mp5J was only for looks, the 552 didn't have an option, the 550 and 551 were electronic based on resistance created during firing. A higher rate spring or battery changed the resistance and caused problems. Th Buddy 89 is mechanical.
nighthawk1221
oh ic i thought the mp5J actually had a working 3 round burst and i wonder how the inside of the 89 mechbox looks. would love to see how they managed a mechanical 3 round burst
Silas5150
According to Madbull, the place in South El Monte is just a distributor, but he said I can leave the package and say it's for Simon nonetheless.
nighthawk1221
what's the place? cuz airsoft gi is also a distributor and it's located in or near west covina
Silas5150
I just got back from dropping off the box...the distributor is at 2319 N Chico Ave, South El Monte. I'm waiting on a reply from Madbull to let me know what went wrong. Oh, nighthawk, let us know about your box! I want to know if mine was a lemon (probably was), and I want to know if you have the same fitting issues. haha....and a performance report with more than one shot being taken! nighthawk1221
lol well it's about 1:15 right lol and im like freaking waiting for the dam ups guy to come! lol but i will have pictures up on everything once i get it no worrys. check back sometime this evening and ill have posted a short review with picturess gotta decide wether or not to start a new thread but i rather like continuing with a review on this thread
Silas5150
lol. don't worry about it too much. It got to me at 4:10 in the afternoon, and I was worried too! I'm going to submit a review to Arnies as soon as I get back the box from Madbull. He said he'd fix it and ship it back ASAP, so I can only guess as to how long that's going to take, but whatever. I really do have to compliment Madbull for his customer service. It's really top-notch.
Death By Cadbury
if you make someone wait years for a product and it blows up in his hands on reciept your customer service had BETTER be damn good. Almost every post in this thread makes me glad I went with an Escort.
Hustie
Has anybody heard whether this'll be a limited production run? I so want to stick a Co2 gearbox in either a SPR or M16A4. But not knowing whether I should buy it now, or wait is killing me.
Azulsky
i hope this one lets them make a better version that will go into a g3 body
Duke Togo
I hope this one makes them realize it was a wasted effort. I held one the other day, it's heavy, but so is a petrified turd. I can't believe people are still going on about this thing. Where is the market for such a niche item? What does it offer over just using your semi-auto selector? A $50 springer can out perform it. If it was select-fire, realistic blowback with an external co2 hookup that offered upwards of 20,000 shots off a 20 oz. tank that would be something, gee I wonder where I cold get something like that. (cough Escort cough) Madbull, there are many other things to make in the world of airsoft. Don't let this white elephant be the thing that ends you. I love your grenades, the land mine is neat, (too weak/small though) the rockets were fun, but not well thought-out, your barrels seem to be doing well. Please get back on track and cut your losses. The number of people that would buy a metal-bodied G3, or FN SCAR or any number of other guns far outnumbers the people that would buy this thing. If you won't abandon it, then make a full gun, with everything pre-installed and tuned, and sell it with numerous options regarding accesories. Take the drop-in mod idea off the table. I'm already imagining future posts of blown up guns and people trying to fit a V.2 mechbox in a PSG1, G3, M14 or anything else. They will run unregulated co2 in a pot metal or plastic receiver and wonder why the charging handle is embedded in their forehead.
Panzergraf
It was said, sometime long ago, that they'd release some kindof adaptor to attach external gas rigs. If this works well with external tanks and higher pressure, it would be a good way to get powerful semi-auto DM rifles. Yeah, Escort would be cool too, but as long as they don't release drop-in "gearboxes", it can't really be compared. I think the drop-in idea is fantastic, it's weird that it hasn't been done before (at least not that I know of).
Death By Cadbury
what amazes me the most, I think, is that even after this ridiculous waiting period..... :drumroll: the thing still isnt right. Edit: <strokes escort mp5sd6>
Silas5150
Not necessarily. I might've gotten a lemon
