Vamp V^^V
Possibly is, but I've already ordered a suit of motorcross armour for a base
buzzsaw
To be quite honest, this loadout would purely be for showing off in.
Vamp V^^V
Pretty much, but I would also like to be able to skirmish in it, if I felt like it Have nearly finished doing stuff to the leg guards now, awaiting arrival of armour.
Vamp V^^V
armour arrived this morning from Ebay, so I am currently fiddling around with it to see how to make it look best.
Hobbles
If ever there was a "useless w/o pics!" - this is it...take some pictures...WE WANNA SEE.
Vamp V^^V
Sorry mate, I didnt mean to be useless. I will post up some pics just for you
boxmag
Hobbles you should give him time to get it underway, he's only just got the stuff from ebay.
buzzsaw
Yeah, calm down. Creating ODST armour is a delicate and fine process which requires utmost skill and dedication!
Vamp V^^V
Lol, thanks you two I'm currently painting logos onto the armour, just to see if it looks okay like that. I should post up pics in a couple of hours But bear in mind that it's only the first trial, if it looks awful, I'll be altering it more severely. Also, at this stage im not trying to create an identical replica of the armour from the pics, just something that resembles/represents it.
Vamp V^^V
As promised, some early photos - - a close up of the logo that I painted onto the breast plate - full length of what I have so far - a close up of the back I'm going to dye my gloves back, and I am planning on finding/making some plates for my thighs (kinky )
TheMerchantOfVenice
DAMN. Sexy dude. Very sexy. From a guy who's seen tons of Halo costumes. You need to get a helmet! I would think urban pattern BDUs would like nice under that. I especially like "Feet First Into Hell" on the back.
Cyber Soldier
well you certainly have the facial expression down. Looks good I see the helmet taking a bit of sculpting work.
Vamp V^^V
Thanks guys I was especially pleased with the UNSC logo, as I painted it freehand onto the armour. I was thinking of what I could do for the helmet, but I'm fresh out of ideas for that. Do you have any? Merchant, how are they normally put together?
TheMerchantOfVenice
Well Adam (the owner of the 405th) made his by hand, sculpted it, and molded it. The others I've seen were Pepakura. I would use a combination...make the Pepakura as a base and build another one out of clay and mold it.
TK421
Have you guys checked THIS place out?
TheMerchantOfVenice
Of bloody course, thats the 405th
Vamp V^^V
Have been looking through 405th this evening. Have no idea how to make up the helmet without it being really really expensive, lol. The next step for my armour will be thigh plates, not sure whether to make them out of moulded pvc or not. buzzsaw
Yes, checked out long time agos. It's actually the website of the 405th forums IIRC? Link to that motorcross armour stuff?
boxmag
Though you've probably already seen it. If I were you I'd start with a Paintball mask, and just add parts to it.
Vamp V^^V
Cheers for the video link, Boxmag, that's fantastic! Two things, does anyone know where I can get the resin/plastic stuffs that he used? Also, I'm worried about how difficult it might be to make the original model of the helmet. Oh, and the cost, lol. I mean, don't get me wrong, it would look simply AWESOME if it worked properly, much as they do in the video. But with no experience of moulding, or anything similar, I'm concerned that I might simply be wasting money, lol. I mean, of course I could give it a shot, but I'm not convinced. Adding a paintball mask could be a much cheaper option, but I'm not sure it would work for adding the actual enclosing helmet very well. Oh, and Buzzsaw, I just picked up some used Motorcross armour from ebay, I'm not sure what the brand is. If I were you, I'd just keep an eye on ebay for it, just search 'motorcross armour' you'd be amazed at the amount and variety that there is. My set cost me about £15, lol. What do you think of it so far? EDIT: I've stopped being lazy, and have found out where to get the stuff from the 405th site
Jagdraben
Personally, I would call it good and throw a boonie hat on.
boxmag
Yeah they used to sell UNSC boonie hats at the bungie store, but they've disappeared a while back, should've bought one when I ahd the chance. But on a big scale making things is much more forgiving than say warhammer models, I reckon you'd be ok using modelling clay, because you can change it if you make a mistake. I once made a master chief from a spacemarine and green stuff, he looks a bit chubby.
Vamp V^^V
Lol, awesome. I might buy some clay and start off my modelling thigh plates for the armour, depending on how well that goes, I'll decide whether or not to make a helmet.
Xsjado
The guy in the video makes it hard (and expensive) for himself with the mould making. Just mix up some alginate in a sealed box big enough for the helmet and dunk it in. When its set take the whole thing out the box and make your cuts, remove the helmet. Put the mould back in the box to keep it rigid and then cast away. http://www.tiranti.co.uk/index.asp are probably your best bet for sourcing materials in the UK.
Vamp V^^V
Thanks mate, that's a really good idea, it sounds a lot simpler
