sage004
Just ordered my dension smock from what price glory...anyone have any idea how long shipping takes for them? Also would a thompson be alright for a british para kit or shall i find something more...english?
Gadge
You'll want a sten to be honest. Mot only were thompsons only really used by commandos and some SAS post 43 but you'd also want a 1928 model as the British didnt use the M1A1 Depends on how accurate you want your game to be to be honest. No one i know would have a problem with you gaming with a thompson, at the end of the day as i always say its your hobby.
sage004
I'm trying to make this as accurate as possible. So sten it is.
Pegasus65
I'm trying to make this as accurate as possible. So sten it is. And what time period will tell you whick Mk you will need..
sage004
going for a d-day look, I finished this books a few weeks back and wish to do a look similar to their's http://www.amazon.com/Pegasus-Bridge-June-...9071&sr=8-
Gadge
You really want a MKV for commonwealth airborne in 44, howerver the MKII was not unknown. Given that a MKV will set you back $1000 and an MKII $300 its not a difficult choice.
sage004
So where can one find the proper STEN?
Colosseum
Good luck, the only place I've seen that stocks the Sten is Evike and I don't trust those bastards after they lost TWO of my orders from them last year... Everywhere else is sold out!
-Angel-
Few snaps from yesterday's game at EAG Worthing. Royal West Kent, 6th Bn., 78th Inf. Div.
sage004
Evike says its instock but i doubt it actually is knowing how they are. well looks like thompson it is....unless i could use a mp40?
Gadge
an Mp40 is better than a thompson but really suits 1st Airborne Division best as all the accounts of UK airborne using a *lot* of captured kit come from the accounts of Arnhem when they were denied their usual supply lines. Much less of an issue for the men of the 6th in Normandy or at Varsity.
Nicoli
Gah Angel I hate how your kit has surpassed mine already lol Need to find a way to stop being broke so I can get the rest of the kit I need
sage004
anything special about the the way the first paras looked in the battle of arnhem?
PedroPato
Hi, this is my first attempt at depicting a Commando Raider and I'm in need of some guidance and suggestions to improve this impression.
Gadge
Its quite good if you were going for late war line infantry, nothing about it says commando though. Trademark commando kit includes green berets, cap comforters, FS knives, commando pattern trousers, scrubbed webbing, plimsoles rather than boots etc. What you have there is a very good infantry section commanders impression, namely ammo boots, blancoed webbing, windproof suit, steel helmet and sten. Commandos also used the Thompson more than the sten.
sage004
gadge got any pics of the commandos?
PedroPato
Thanks for the feedback, I will take Gage words into account and change the focus to depict late war Northern Europe. In that case should I change puttees for anklets? And which items should I had to the webbing gear to made it look more "real"?
Gadge
Yup get anklets, everyone wore anklets in WWII in NWE bar the SAS. Your webbing is fine but could do with re blancoing. Pics of commandos.... http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/WW2/
sage004
does anyone know what size the king arms midcap are? are they based off the 20 round or 30 round thompson mags?
-Angel-
they're real steel 30 rnd size unfortunately. Hold 110rnd of bb's.
kmntol
Are there any good data on the modifications that british commandos made to their trousers? I think there are at least one model for sale which has a simple holder for the dagger. Are there any other modifications that were common?
Gadge
gadge got any pics of the commandos? Here you go, i did a quick 'commando raider' impression. Mid to late war. Denim battledress (as worn on the dieppe raid), cap comforter, 'water wings' life vest, 37 pat webbing, sten gun (although a 1928 thompson is more apt). Really i should have plimsoles and an FS knife as well but i dont own either!
sage004
very nice pics!
