H&D 1 was a supreme game for its time- I remember on one of the later missions where you had to sneak through a forest- and I came across a british soldier tied to a tree near the path... I approached him, and it wasn't until the last second that I saw the glassy look in his eyes, and the dynamite strapped to his back. "BOOOOOM!" the blast caught two of my men and flung them away dead, the other two were left suddenly staring down the barrels of 20 nazi soldiers storming over the ridge towards my position.

H&D 2 is a touch simpler than the first, but overall it is a better game- I just can wait for october, when they release the add-on pack which is co-operative in multiplayer!

Also released in October will be "Vampire, the masquerade - Bloodlines" which uses the Half-lie two engine. That game jut looks superb, and they've been adding content to it ever since half life two started forcing them to delay their release until after their own game. Unless HL2 comes out before the end of october though, bloodlines will be the firt "source" engined game on the market.

A good idea is play Delata Force 1 or 2 and try and complete all the missions with just a sniper rifle and a sidearm(apart from those missions where you gotta blow stuff up, obviously!)

It'll kill hours of time crawling around the place picking guys off from 400 yards but you need the patience of a saint!

BE WARNED!!

Import a copy of City Of Heroes from the USA. It's an MMORPG superhero game with the best character creation tool I've ever used and amazingly, once you get over the initial 140Mb-odd update, it runs bug-free (at least with me). There are already loads of people, and most of them are willing to team up with you too, even newer players.

It's outstanding fun and well worth the $15 a month - that said, you get a month free anyway, so I'd say that unless you HATE superheroes it'd be the game to try!

NOTE: I do not accept responsibility for dragging Arnie away from running this great site by playing some stupid video game! ;)

Going off the FPS tack for just one mo...

Ever tried playing Baldurs Gate series? Baldurs gate 2 is a very good game, with a good plot (with twists and all!) to boot. Ive been playing Morrowind on and off for ages now as well, its a good way to waste a few hours. Good thing with morrowind is that you can download all sorts of crazy plug-ins for it, which add all kinds of things to the game, greatly increasing its shelf life as it were! Plots not as good as BG2 mind, but even so its the best RPG ive played as you can do whatever you want and interact with virtually everything.

Urrm other games...I really liked playing AVP2, even tho its quite old, a lot of the old games are still the best. I think you can get it online with the expansion for about 15-20 quid now too, so it you havent played it id recommend that.

Unreal 2 is also very good, has a clever plot, good AI and graphics, again worth a shot if you havnt played it yet and also available for 15-20 quid.

The total war series - best stratagies out there. Medieval is again pretty cheap, about 15 quid, and is the best out there...at least until Rome total war comes out (dont know if you remember but its the same game they used in Time commanders).

Aaand thats it! I reckon its worth trying something a bit different, FPS can get very samey after a while. Ive given up with Doom 3 as its just like any other corridor shooter, and from what ive seen of the plot so far its just like Half life (the origional!!). Something goes wrong in science facility, go get to the surface to get help, constantly seeing the G-man (or the marnine and the other dude in doom 3) doing things but not being able to interact with them etc. I just got bored with it all and gave up, seen it all before 5 years ago!

If anyone wants my copy of doom 3, 20 quid and its yours!!! :P

But yeah, risk 15 quid on something different and I think youll be plesently suprised as long as you pick a good title (such as those above)

Cheers

I'd also recommend one of the AD&D RPGs ("saddo!" I hear you say...), and my pick of the bunch would be Neverwinter Nights. You'll love it - it's cerebral, got a good plot, nicely sized (hardly short but the main quest ain't HUGE - then there are the sub-quests...) and there are loads of new levels for when you complete it. Plus the multi-player ain't half bad...

Call Of Duty is great. Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault just came out and it dominates. The counter strike games are great especially if your looking for something like Halflife. Also with Counter Strike Condition Zero you get the beta demo of HL2 and Counter Strike Source. I play Counter Strike Source all the time. It is incredible. The new graphics engine rules. Good luck Arn.

Hah! I have done that... I only would use the sniper rifles. I played that game online a while ago... old game (delta force 1) but I sure did kick some serious butt.
