Hoppum
Was browsing the BBC news website when i came across this picture. Anyone know what it is the soldiers firing? Could it be a tear gas launcher of some kind? Just wondering.
alastairthegreat
looks like the launcher that "handome rob" used to nock out the security gourds on the new version of the italian job... im probably wrong though
Misfit
It's a Sten.
Robot 2000
Looks kind of like one of those HK69 grenade launcher jobbies to me . . .
Misfit
I still think it looks more like a Sten, to be honest.
Anachronism327
The Sten doesn't have that type of stock... I think it's a launcher...
Misfit
The Sten doesn't have that type of stock... I think it's a launcher... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes it does, look at the above post. A Sten MkIII. Infact, the Sten MkIII's stock in the both photos looks exactly the same, as it goes down diagonally, the launcher, is horizontal.
snowman
Looks like one of those rubber bullet guns they used to use in Northern Ireland. It's probably being used to 'bring democracy' to the Iraqis Cheers.
Trooper Cooper
Riot control launcher, can't remember the designation.
screamin_weasel
i think a sten is a silly idea. even if it looks like one, why would he be using one ? hes not a WW2 soldier lol, and the guy in front has one aswell. and im pretty sure a sten wouldnt make that much smoke, and dont you hold the sten by the mag at the side ? thats a launcher for sure. Pablo
Definitely looks like a baton round/teargas canister launcher, similar to this but with a folding stock and no foregrip.

Just because it's no longer in use doesn't mean they don't still have/shoot them, either for "promotional" purposes/education purposes or whatever. It may be a launcher, but it definately wasn't the HK69.
Jammy_Stuff
It was in some military magazine I bought a few months back. It's a rubber round launcher.

Pablo
I keep finding references to an HK L104 anti-riot gun, no piccies yet though.
Misfit
Anyway, just noticed the grooves/circle hole things in the side of the gun in the OPs image, which definately rules it out as being a Sten. Most likely is some kind of launcher then.
SwatMP5man
Edit: Delete useless image
Misfit
SwatMp5Man - look at the stock. That makes it different.
Lord Blackgoat
I own a Sten MkII, and this is definitely not one. Holding a Sten that way would make your fingers like mashed potato because of the cocking lever. The Mk3's stock is not hold that way and is fixed a bit higher on the main body. It's trigger guard is more squared, and there is a protrusion under the body cylinder, where the firing mec (fire selector etc) takes place.
Pablo
I don't think so. The "receiver" (for want of a better word) isn't there in the picture, more of a tube + pistol grip + folding stock. Still no picture of the L104A1 yet...
Lance Jackass
Its an arwen 37mm riot gun, of NI fame.
Pablo
Its an arwen 37mm riot gun, of NI fame. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since 1994, the only one authorised for use in the UK is the H&K L104A1. They might be the same, as I can't find a pic of either. Here's the document I found which stated this, it's on page 11 if anyone's interested. Here's a BBC article about the use of baton rounds in iraq, and it mentions the old Arwen-37.
Lance Jackass
Well the riot guns that i know the brits use are the single shot fat revolver jobby shown there, the new multiple shot arwen jobby and the HK69A1 in 40mm. And i've only ever seen them in books, apart form the Hk69 whch you can find on the 'net.
Pablo
Arwen-37 pics: It ain't one of those.
Lance Jackass
Hk69A1 with red dot sight. The gun in question. TINY photo - sorry. And the newer arwen 37 - multishot jobby is in pablos post - how convenient... Btw - airsoft scotland sell the inert rounds for them, random?
