Pistol tactics?

Evening all.

Got a nice glock cyma on the way from gunner as well as some upgrade parts. Its becomming my backup but now and then I may just use it as a primary for a round or go to the odd pistol only game.

I presume the main tactic is cover cover and more cover. lots of moving around. and picking targets carefully. perhaps a silencer as well to keep it quiet.

Advice much appreciated. Just trawled through 20 pages of search topics and couldnt find a previous thread on this so if there is one sorry. please point me in its direction.

thanks

Rhys

There are certain things you should however get familier with.

1. One is to of course, get used to your gun. Focues on the control (mag release, safety, decocker, etc...) and the capbilities of the thing.

2. Learn to reload quickly, untill it becomes second nature to you, usuaully without looking.

3. Theres some good vidoes on the net for pistol tactics, so check those out.

Using a pistol as a primary sure brings a new feeling to airsoft. A whole new level of sneakyness (is that even a word) and tactics come up. Without a huge 300 round hi-cap, picking your targets and shots are very important.

hello,

This thread: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...opic=82034&st=0

Whyle not being specificly what you where after, does bring up some interesting points.

like these two links

http://www.airsoftspecialists.com/articles/TAPSS/tapss.htm

http://www.airsoftspecialists.com/articles...dualpistols.htm

Basicly using a pistol is possible, but you have to accept in advance that you will be outgunned by default, and use your head to get around that.

AEP is an interesting choice, and definatly not a bad one. They are very accurate and hold more ammo than their equivilant GBB brothers. However in stock form they are a little underpowered, meaning that the BBs take longer to get to your target.

They seem to have better hop units than GBBs so their lower power dosent loose them range.

happy hunting

thanks for that Ed. For now I doubt I'll use it often as a primary just now and then when i fancy a change. but if proves viable I'll either totally upgrade this one and single gun or buy a second and upgrade it too for dual gunning. two would have the advantage of extra fire etc.

Had read that reloading thread thanks provides a very valid point. practice practice practice on all aspects of your pistols so you at least have some advantage over some of the AEG'ers.

And yea i realise i'll be out gunned. just a case of picking targets carefully and then playing very smartly when exposed and you end up in a firefight.

those last two links dont seem to work though. is the board down?

for now i'll be putting a nineball spring and tightbore in it. should up its power and accuracy a fair bit. so any other advice? keep moving alot? work very quietly? lots of cover? etc?

From my limited experience back when I used a GBB for a day as a primary.

Work alone and be sneaky, or as a pair with someone that has an AEG for when shtf.

Avoid direct firefights against AEGs, you won't win.

Have a decent amount of spare mags to rely on.

Cover and suprise are your best hopes for success.

More Tips:

1. The Less you carry the better. The last game i had, i used a camelbak, belt with two pistol mag pouches on the side, a leg platform that held another 4 Mags (each were 100 rounders), a pair of gloves, and some knee pads. That was it. And i have to say I performed pretty well. At the end of that day i had 7 kills under my belt.

2. Knee Pads- Without a bulky loadout, speed is one of the few things you have over an AEG. I found myself rolling around, dropping on one leg, and diving all over.

3. Dual gunning, is fun, but sometimes impratical. With just one gun you tend to focus on it more, using the sights = more accurate shots. With two guns you have a tendacy of "point-shooting". Not a real techincal term, but one were you just guess and use instinct to get your shots.

4. Using pistols sure bring on a new wave of adrenaline. You gain a mentality of being outgunned, thus gearing your mind to a more "last man standing" set. You end up doing everything possible to stay alive. Even barrelrolling towards an enemy and shooting them 2 feet away (the other guy missed and was sure surprised! =P). We had many laughs after that.

thanks chaps all great advice.

currently in my head I have it that 99% of the time I'd use just one pistol then draw the second when a extra stream of fire is needed or when engaging 3+ targets at once.

I've dual gunned with real steel in the past so have at least some experience

Well to be honest I wouldn't be using an AEP. I had one a while back, and just got fustrated by it's low power and everything. I'm going to tell you if you don't upgrade it that you will have to be firing at someone for a couple of seconds before they feel it. So when you are working out what ammo you need recognise that fact, if they don't see the shots it will take them a second or two to feel them.

I realise it is too late, but for pistol only I would really reccomend a good NBB like a P99. Good power, accuracy, and no blowback to make things more difficult. Blowback is great; but for a primary can cause problems.

Just my 2 cents.

this is real gun shooting styles and tactics, but it's almost the same for airsoft... cept for the recoil.

you can chek out more of his stuff. he is verry good.

you can also find stuff about pistol tactics if you read up on krav maga, or swat tactics.

i usually use either a pistol or sniepr rifle when airsofting, and these are some basics that are important to be comfortable with.

some things to remember:

1 - this is not a movie, do not stand in front of multiple opponents. rather, move to their side so that they are lined up, and take them down one by one.

2 - you are, in a sense, a sniper. you must place your shots carefully, do not miss, do not use more rounds per man than neaded, your tactics and methods of movement are more important than the capabili9ties of your gun.

3 - learn to hold the gun properly so that aquiring a target will be second nature to you. the same goes for reloading.

4 - know your gun. rather than go for all the fancy compensators, silencers, and lasers and such, you must learn to use your stock gun first.

5 - be quiet and stealthy. pistols, being small, will allow for this. do not give away your position untill you have a shot, then strike.

On the subject of pistol combat DONT ever blind aim (like many Chavs do were they hold the gun high), get the gun in a good stance for both mving and shooting (Metal Gear Solid 2 is a good example of a way to carry and fast aim your pistol), make sure that you know just how to reload effectively and never be to fast and drop the mag (coz it damages it and may spray bb's everywhere), always fire if you are sure that you have the target in range or sight and if using a double action then learn to master your decocking lever. Thats all i can think of for now but i will put more

Practice your "John Woo movie" roll. :)

I did successfully pull this off at CS Urban when I felt like taking the ######. I rolled out from a corner & caught my victims napping. They then commented "I don't believe you just did that", I was surprised it worked too & had to agree. :D Wouldn't recommend it generally , having hummed the theme tune to SWAT for the preceeding half hour probably helped though.....

I spent a whole afternoon at my local site playing pistol games for a change and one thing i was taught by one of the older players was to make rounds count. When firing at someone, the first two rounds can be used to keep heads down, but the next bb really should find it's target.

I see my GBB as something i use if my AEG breaks so have never really put much time into getting to know it. But when you use a GBB you should know what engagement distance you have, when to swap mags and be confident that you what you aim at, you'll hit.

One thing to recommend is to keep mags in an easy to grab place as when you drop that mag undoubtedly some git will hear it and then pop out on you, be swift but silent when you reload and know what your doing. If you can take two then a New-York reload may help as when the slide locks merely pull out the back-up and continue firing then reload both when in a safe place. Its good fun but takes some damn good practice.

thanks for the tips. whats a new york reload?

also are there any rigs/vests that hold the hicaps for pistols ok? ie some that allow quick pull out of magazines?

I run duals only. I would say the best tactic is playing. The more you play the more you will notice things about your rig or play that you don't like. I am almost done with my custom dual pistol loadout. It was prduced after about 6-7 games and the shortfall of the rig I had. Here's some of my opinoins.

A belt holster is faster and more adaptive. Have your reloads on the same side as the reloading hand. Learn to reload in a crouch. Learn to shoot with both hands. Keep a sense of humor. And think think think.

Rambo said it best "I always thought the mind was the best weapon."
