MP thinks tasers should be legalised

Well I was reading in the paper today how an MP wants to allow people to use tasers on an intruder breaking into their house, tasers have no lasting effect and deliever 50,000 volts into you, he was writing about how his house was broken into and how a taser could of helped him. Furthermore he was saying how it's unfair for a normal person to be expected to fight of a burgular, and how tasers should be supplied to all homes, however he also said that people using them would need training and shouldn't carry them outside there houses. It seems like a good idea in some ways however expecting everyone who will have one to be trained is going to be a bit of a nuisance. So I was just wondering what all your thoughts were? do you agree with this or not? and if the law was brought in would you go out and buy one? :)

just one question... can you get a fitting kit for an M4? :P

Sounds like a good idea to me, less harm than the usual array of baseball bats ,kitchen knives and

savage dogs people have to protect their homes, id buy one if i thought i was prone to being robbed

but i have this,

But.. tasers look like real guns to non-informed members of the public at a distance who only get a glance..

Ban plastic guns so we can have ones that shoot electricity and kill people with pacemakers!

Er.. anyway.. like the gun argument I can see uses for them but then I see massive misuses. Very easy to mug someone when they are being subdued by electricity..

Edit: Sorry about all the ellipsis..

They are pretty nasty devices, desgined to instantly immobilise. You can see the potential for criminal usage.

Meh but people abuse whatever's available. We could legalise handguns and stinger missiles but it wouldn't do much, if anything, to save Britian sinking further into the mud. *sniff* Hey that's not mud!!!

Makes sign for Jimmypie to nail to his front gate:

"Beware: Dog is armed with automatic weaponary"

Do you know why he wants this law? Its because he was broken into. The day before it had never even crossed his mind. But now of course because its happened to him its a matter of great importance. I think it would be a bad idea, as the people above have mentioned. HOWEVER. I do not like how the state protects criminals more than home owners. I'm sure you've all heard the stories about home owners being sued by burglars who have injured themselves while breaking into homes. As far as I'm concerned this is PC gone mad. If you break into my house you have forfeited your rights as you have infringed on mine. I'LL BREAK YER FRIGGIN LEGS. and thats if I feel sorry for you.

In principle, yeah its a great idea giving homeowner a real way of defending themselves.

but in practice its a stupid idea.

It would just be nice to have the laws changed so that we could defend our families and property with out being nicked and sued.

But thats just plain madness!

Exactly, the other day at work I had to deal with a loony waving a meat cleaver at me, I talked him down because I was trapped in a corridor with him and knew that my ASP and CS would not be much good dealing with him as it would put me far to close to him. Afterwards I thought again about how under equipped we are and how we should have tazers at the very least. Of course the people who make the decisions about whether we (or the public) can be armed with the right things to protect ourselves, are made by senior offiers and ministers who live away from the scum and who have armed Special Branch officers to protect then 24 - 7. It's easy to be pink and fluffy when you don't have anything to fear... <_<

How often do people confront burglars? Is this an everyday occurence in the US or something? Traditionally, any burglaries I've encountered have been when NO-ONE IS *fruitcage* IN. When our car stereo was nicked, twice, we didn't have the foresight to sleep in the boot of the Escort, armed with a steak knife.

Is there an epidemic of cr@p burglars we should be expecting? Am I better off sitting poised in the garden shed with a loaded shotgun? Has the standards of Burglary Academy dipped under a Labour government?

"It's midday, there's no car on the driveway, no dog in the garden, the house has a rear alleyway and the bathroom window is open. What do we do next?"

"Er, wait until they come back at night and kick the back door in?"

I don't know about you, but in my neck of the woods stories of pensioners breaking into people's houses are thin on the ground.

I was thining of them being used for wrongdoing.. I apologised if you were attempting humour and not being sarcastic.. I can't take that chance.

*Tasers you*

Tasers? We talking the kind where you have to be close enough for them to punch you, or the kind where you get one shot at a distance? Stuff that. I want a Beretta 92F, .357 revolver and a pump action 12 gauge shotgun. If you're going to put an intruder down, do it properly.

You go to stop someone, only realising that he too has a taser

My thoughts precisely. If everyone is given a taser then the thieves would have them too, making you no more at an advantage than if nobody had tasers.

Also...I saw a show on TV recently that said in most cases if you try to use a weapon against an intruder, that weapon will be turned against you....

Giving them free reign of your home while you lay powerless on the floor. Great!

(Note: I don't always believe what's on the TV but...meh)

Not if you've just used a couple of .357 Magnum rounds to let their brains see the light of day. If you let an intruder get close enough to take a gun off you, that's your bad.

Haha well most people don't have guns...

Pretty sure it mostly referred to things like bats/other blunt objects. In most cases people are overpowered and lose control of the weapon.

Maybe airsoft weapons are the answer...I was pondering this very question just a few days ago... enough of a hit to scare them off and make them think you've really shot them/make them ###### themselves... but without the trial/prison sentence element that comes with using a real gun.

I think I've solved it TBH...

Imitation firearms for all!

...Except the burglars....

######.

Edited for typos
