Magnum Boots

ive been using magnums for 3 years now, after my trusty russian boots finaly gave up the ghost after 4 years of silly wearing.

i have 2 pairs, a pair of clissics for woodland which i found to be a *badgeress* to break in but once they were they were fine. give very very good ankle suppoort and well padded and good at shock abosrbing (i know i have bad knees and need it). ive never had a problem with waterproofing, never coated them or anything and my feet are always dry at the end of gaming and thats not through avoiding puddles.

startying to get worn down in the heel as i have an odd walk which kills the heel of shoes very fast. (3 days 1 set of trainers!) buit thats aftre 2 years so cant complain

my other pair are a pair of the zip up viper boots. for urban use. (clubbing and AS) even better shock absorbtion, even comfyer and more flexible.

try a pair on they are very very good.

To back pariah,

I too have found my magnums (8" side zips) awful, they lasted two weeks before the sole became detached from the boot, i wasn't storming beachheads or anything they were used 9-5 in a camping shop and the worse they had was a 6 mile walk over field where they also proved extensively non-waterproof, some proofing spray i found in the store room did the trick however.

Now i know that magnums are meant to be the dog's danglies but it's not a theory i'll be re testing anytime soon

anyway i returned them (i got them from the shop i worked in so no issues), and bought some nice laces, some full sorbathane in soles for my old lightweight assaults, various leather care things (though i'm still a Kiwi fanboy) and had 20 odd quid left with some very capable boots on my feet

Cheers

Mig

therefore they were faulty....

i broke my magnums in over the summer teaching in cadet camps (im ex ta now), they take breaking in, and thats what people should remember with boots, now, thier the most comfortalbe footwear i own aside from the fury slippers... but they wouldnt work for a skirmish i wager...

All ive used on them is kiwi parade polish, and they are rocking along nicely.

and ive found thier nicely waterproof. and keep thier surface well

mine are the classics, tho ill need a new pair, cos i seem to have dropped to a 7 somehow (was a 8)

also, side zip boots are designed for swat teams and police units for quick getting on...

they arnt designed for wadeing in swamps... as are none of the jungle boot designs... magnum do make normal wet boots btw...

Although I have not used them and only have experience with the Elite, I wouldnt use a zip boot outside of urban (if at all) as I see the main problem with the design being the zip itself, in an enviroment where it will get wet, dirty it could lead to becoming worn and so break (not to mention the water resistance would be less even after being treated at the zip)

This is precisely the thing I've seen happen too many times.

Just from close friends in the last 3 years I've seen 4 pairs of Magnums fail dramatically. Another 2 with small holes in them which render them completely not water proof.

Not to mention that alot of their designs just aren't waterproof.

Generally the leather they use isn't very thick and wears through quickly.

And gunbunny, really shut-up. You don't know me so don't make judgements.

Much of what the police is issued is based on what they can afford. Arktis kit is good, but it really isn't the best out there. It's what they could afford. Much like boots, police don't need Danner quality boots so they don't issue them with them. ;)

ok ok no need to throw your teddy in the corner :waggle:

it just seems that your opinion of the magnum boot seems to be in the minority and more than likely your close friends may have either not cared for the boots properly ie polish them regularly, or they have brought the ultra ###### zip up versions .

oh and cheers for the negative rep point. it has helped to drop it back to zero where it belongs :D

oddly i abuse my boots something rotten.

i never clean them (and i mean never not even rinse them off) i have never bothere water sealing them, i use them all day everyday (4 miles a day min) and for work boots in an oily place (oil kills boots)

and they are fine. maybe the way your mates have used them maybe at odds. or maybe they wenrt magnums at all but knock offs or factory seconds

I will say that Magnums aren't for everyone & every job. For a lightweight boot they are pretty good in my experience. If you want a waterpoof boot buy wellies or wear seal skin socks....

In Britain at a typical skirmish I use magnum dessies that I regularly coat in scotch guard/nixwax products, one treated they are pretty good at resisting the wet.

If it is truly swampy out I wear sealskin socks, these keep your feet warm even if you completely submerge your whole body. They are a very good choice if you wear any canvas or jungle boot in the winter.

calm down dear, its airsoft ;)

firstly, a few failing boots doesnt mean thier all ######

the leather is fairly thick on mine btw, thicker than british issue boots, (which take a serious beating)

gunbunny doesnt need to know you to know your acting like an asshat :)

and the police issue whats needed yes, this is airsoft, we arnt treking the Sahara, or fighting daily....

and magnum wouldnt have thier reputation if it wasnt deserved :)

and find me better than artkis in brit kit,

and try not to get mud on your weesatch

Magnum Classic X3

Jungle boots

I've had them all. I have had danner boots, converse, altberg and issue boots.

The only boots I like better than the magnums would have to be the converse but that may be because i've only had them for two months and they are feather light.

I use my magnum jungles for work (paintball marshall) and to skirmish in. I weighed up all of the options before purchasing the jungles and the improved panama sole on the jungles sold them. I can live with damp feet because of the total traction supplied by this pattern.

You need to think which terrain you will spend most of your time on swat's seem good for urban but the close tread pattern fills up with mud quick and it's skating time. The converse and a pair of adidas GSG-9.2 (my mates) lovely boots but the soles are very soft and will ware fast on concrete/tarmac.

Magnum classics are almost perfect, they do everything well and don't cost the earth. You don't need more!

I recently got myself a pair. I dont plan to use them 'outside', just for urban.

I have mixed feeback from them. People who use them at cadets say that they were a waste of money. People who use them at the urban site I play at say they are brilliant.

Correct me if im wrong, but I didn't think they were designed to be used in harsh terrain, which is why they fall to peices. After all they are 'patrol boots'.

and find me better than artkis in brit kit,

Easy. It's some Irish company called Protec or Protac. Their stuff is awesome but a little pricey. Well worth it for professional work (my vest has survived two cheeky tours and about to go on another), a little OTT for airsoft however.

Boots-wise? Either my Oakley EOD boots (operationally quite important as they have no metal content), or my Mehindls. I had some Magnum Deserts and they were the most unfortable boots I've ever owned either with various insoles.

Yeah, got to love the artkis kit. I have a couple of jackets and an advanced chest rig.

Total quality and the customer support was some of the best I have experienced.

:D

My amazons are like slippers very comfortable. :D

I'd love one of the new sharpshooter jackets but can't quite justify the cost (yet).

i love my arktis jungle vest!! brought it off ebay for 25 quid used but the thing has loads of life left in it , not like some other makes cough webtex cough :D

back on the subject of boots i owned a pair of matterhorns a few years ago and while they were very comfy to wear and 100% waterproof, the soles i found wore away very quickly, and the tread pattern was a bit far apart which resulted in me slipping around all ove the place in the mud lol anyone else have this problem?

I wore a pair of Magnum elites, everyday for two years, sometimes 14 hours a day. The damn things gave me Tendonitas, which crippled me and took months to sort out.

I binned them, and bought a pair of Army Helicoptor pilots boots, all soft leather, fully waterproof, and as comfortable as a pair of slippers, I've been using them for 18 months now. The only drawback, is that the sole has hardly any tread, I suppose you don't need it on alluminium, Maybe not gucchi, but very, very practical

as with anything boots are a very personal choice. and its not fair to say the boots did the damage as you should have realised htere was a problem sooner and changed them. this from the person whoo has crippled knees and has to be very very carefull about the footwear i use.

The boots DID do the damage, Confirmed by a sports injury specialist, But I did'nt realise it untill it was to late, I know of a few other wearers who have had the same problem, so these boots are not as personal as you would state.

You don't work for Magnum, Do you ?

that said when i have worn any footwear which has casued my kneesd to get worse i have known very quickly with incrased pain, loss of mobility and flexablity,

also if you wear boots that much changing them more oftern is essential.

I clean mine after ever use, tbh the scratching doesnt bother me, did when I was half way up snowdon as they were new but it adds to their character.

Not like Im gonna get inspected wearing them ;)

I might get some parade polish and give that a go, Ive just been using regular shoe polish so far.
