masakarijoe
i agree. on the IBA, the straps are in just the right place. however, i liked the CSM one on mine. but thats my preference, use whatever works for you! sizing of the IBA is probably also a factor, and since im a small, its probably harder for me. -Joe
shadownova
I found the dump best when attached to the side of the IBA straps. Kept everything on the IBA. If I still had one I'd look into the SDS. Looks about how I used the sustainment pouch. Are you going to put the side-sapi carriers on your IBA? I think they look ridiculous, but they do have molle webbing on them. You could put a few things there.
masakarijoe
they feel quite rediculous too. no-rah for walking tanks. -Joe
KWP
I mounted it on a belt and seems okay. Anyway each his own. I can also see how the NVG pouch could be a magazine dumper. The SDS sustainment looks great, but couldn't find the Coyote brown version on any official USMC pics. Was it only issued in woodland?
masakarijoe
both were issued, but the sustainment pouch went away with the intro of newer MOLLE kits. so it didnt see much service. it is also quite rare i believe. but we can use whatever we want really, so it wouldnt be unrealistic or anything. -Joe
KWP
Hey, I found the solution to your high mounting problem with the SDS dumper. I didn't notice it before and I can imagine many others also wouldn't, but the MOLLE straps have a low and high mount mode. See the photo for reference:

Azulsky
i love how simple the dump pouch started we are way past KISS
shadownova
I know. How the hell do you over design the dump pouch. BAG + MOLLE straps = SUCCESS not BAG + STRAPS + LOOPS + VELCRO + ELASTIC = FAIL
masakarijoe
^^^^agree. KWP, yes that is possible, but then the mount on your belt is not secure (double the width). in addition, with alot of movement, especially with a heavy load, the single snaps on the bottom are bound to come undone, and there goes your dumper. i do understand that. but i simply cannot deal with the design. -Joe

BAG + MOLLE straps = SUCCESS not BAG + STRAPS + LOOPS + VELCRO + ELASTIC = FAIL An old style dumper works the same way as the SDS with MOLLE straps and has also Velcro, elastics and even has the same stud buttons and what not. Funny how a little re-arranging of the same common features, can confuse people so much. @masakarijoe: I pulled and twisted the secured straps with a force you would never have in real life, not even in combat. The buttons didn't open. Compare it with an old style dumper and you'll see it has no complicated extras, it all just looks bittle different.
Fatal
That dumper looks so stupid, all that excess ###### is pointless... in my opinion. On a side note, the mail man came today. USMC Issued FROG suit (2) - $50.00 Gentex MICH helmet with NVG mount and goggle retention straps - $50.00 Trijicon ACOG with Trijicon Doctor sight - $400.00 Surefire broomstick light - $73.00 No knockoffs :-)

When I was issued FROG stuff, it was one-time issue. You couldn't turn them back in, which is why I ended up with 5 sets of the stuff.
Squeezee
Why is there a difference between an M4 and an M16A4 ACOG? Is it because of the gun (M16A4 has a longer barrel?) I would get FROG, but it is still expensive, and I rather know a Marine didn't burn to death rather than know that I was 10% less overheated in a skirmish.
The Crunchy Bunny
Yeah, it has to do with the ballistics of the weapon, namely the longer barrel.

Hopefully it will be lighter than the current solid stock and still have storage space for a cleaning kit.
masakarijoe
i think it is the A4 RCO. not sure. how can i tell when i get it? shadownova, do you happen to have an extra set in size small? and yes, i think we should keep the M16, but get retractable stock for sure. -Joe
Fatal
When you look through the optic at the bottom it says what its for. At least it should, mine says "M4A1" its way down at the bottom too.
masakarijoe
ok, thanks. ill check. hopefully the difference isnt too great, if it is the wrong one. it is going on my AR15A4 -Joe

I'm all for the collapsing stock, as long as there is no compromise on capability (storage space) and performance (quality of materials). Actually reading the product request was an interesting insight into how new products are entered into the military. edit: Joe I'm not sure of the difference, and I don't think you need to be reminded of the barrel length differences, but another important factor may be the twist on your AR-15 from the twist this military ACOG is designed for. Sqeezee: Actually I think the policy is that no one can outside the wire, or out on patrol, without proper flame retardant gear. So no Marine or sailor is going to burn to death because you got a second hand set of FROG. You aren't even supposed to take your gloves or eye protection off during a convoy. In my opinion you shouldn't have to buy the FROG suit. As a Marine you should be issued one. Btw, how can you get them so cheap? On ebay I'd have to pay at least 3x that price + shipping.
