shadownova
Why aren't they wrapped around that rope correctly What exactly are these Recon Operators doing wrong? They got two hands on the rope with the line going between their boots. This is how I learned to fast rope.

Adiventure
ha! i was right there when they were doing that training. shame i wasnt caught in one of the pics; then i'd be famous! -Joe I wondered when it said it was on the Essex. I've got a fair bit of gear coming this week, my IFAK from SKD (25 bucks for an Eagle one in CB), a FROG shirt (maybe undershirt? it's not the one with marpat arms, same material through and through, a FROG balaclava, and possibly an eagle riggers belt, I've also got a HSGI hat on the way, but its not FR at all. Next two weeks or so and I should have a duty belt and belt pad to replace my pantac one. I'll post some pics up when everything gets here. On a side note, if anyone knows where to get a small Eagle upright GP pouch (the one with 2 rows of molle) for a reasonable price I would appreciate a heads up, I'd like to use it for my E&E/small wilderness survival kit, as my pantac one, maybe a medium? (with 3 rows of molle) has proved too big for my uses. I think a 100rd pouch might do simmilarly, so that would work too. I'm really getting into this now that I have enough cash to make a dent . Fatal
I think it was just a one time thing. MEDITERRANEAN SEA (June 9, 2009) Marines assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) fast rope from a CH-53 Super Stallion, assigned to Thunder Chickens of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 263, to the flight deck of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) during a Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) drill. The Fort McHenry is deployed with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) in support of maritime security operations in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. shadownova
Master Titled what if you get hurt? Where is your Blow-Out Kit? If it is on your vest, where is your IFAK?
pforcerecon
Where would be the best placement for a Blow Out Kit? Looks like he could make room in the back? Also would a fanny pack be used in conjunction with such a setup? I'm thinking about getting one but it looks as if though it would be in the way or just wouldn't work out. master_titled
Master Titled what if you get hurt? Where is your Blow-Out Kit? If it is on your vest, where is your IFAK? I have been thinking about that lately... I may remove my utility pouch from my patrol pack and place it on the back. I do have my medical pouch on the right side of my vest. (picture in a bit...) Edit: Nothing really new with the rig... just relocated the frags to the belt. I folded down the bib for now. I'm looking into picking up the admin pouch with light as the replacement. shadownova
The blow-out kit/bag is usually located on the vest where people operating on you have direct access to it. If you get shot or can't breath, the kit is right there. The blow-out kit contains supplies to treat gunshot wounds, major bleeding trauma, and airway issues (the most likely ways of dying). The IFAK contains less serious or less common injury stuff like bandaids, disinfectants, burn stuff. I put my blow-out kit on my vest and my IFAK on my belt, to the right next to my dump pouch. Stuff I had, and still have in my blow-out kit, included: catheters (for needle insertion), bandages, gauze, naso/oral pharyngeal (airtubes for nose and mouth), burn bandages, quikclot, plastic bags, treatment cards, and so forth. And they were arranged in such a way that if I pulled one thing out the entire bag would not spill out, as happened to some during training. I even put a tourniquet in there, but I had more tourniquets strapped on my vest. Scissors too. For the bag itself I used the IFAK bag that comes in the FSBE kit, produced by Eagle Industries. For my belt IFAK, I used the standard issue CB IFAK. I didn't put my bloodtype on either bag with marker because I had my bloodtype displayed elsewhere (on my helmet). edit: BHI has a pretty fancy blow-out bag with a good kitlist of medical supplies: http://www.bhigear.com/bhicombatmedicalkit-blowoutbag.aspx edit: How many of you guys have KILL CARDS? If you're all willing to buy genuine stuff, I bet you guys would have kill cards. Anyway, kill cards are little cards (usually laminated) that have an admin number on it. Usually the it goes like, A000. The letter being the letter of the company you belong to (in this case ALPHA). The numbers represent your number within that company. Usually kill cards go in a shoulder pocket and a calf pocket (but the pockets in question are usually chosen by the batallion). The idea is, if you die or get hurt or incapacitated... a person just has to pull out your card and relay the number up to higher. Then, without saying your name or SSN over the radio, higher headquarters knows who has been injured or dead. The kill cards are supposed to travel with you on your way to hospital as well. I don't have a picture of a kill card or my kill card, since I am on vacation and I shredded them anyway. The cards themselves are very simple, they are like basically the size of a playing card with big black text on it (and laminated) on white paper. There are no images on it anywhere, just the text. The idea behind this is if it were accidentally dropped or discovered, it means nothing or offers no valuable information to the person who finds it. Because all it says is A000. This was the policy in my unit during my 2008 deployment, I don't know if it is the same in other deploying units. Maybe their kill cards looked different, I don't know. But if you're all striving for authenticity, kill cards are a pretty inexpensive means of doing so.
master_titled
Ah, thanks for that info! Looks like I'm set for the pouch. Now I just need to fill it correctly and swap the current contents out for the belt IFAK. The standard issue CB IFAK is the Aites style, right? I'll be looking into purchasing that soon then since those are fairly cheap and readily available.

master_titled
why do special forces duct tape their safarilands? secondary clean That's what I always assumed... to keep ###### out of the barrel since it can get so close to the ground when kneeling.
-=OGGY=-
Hey guys, I've got a quick question, what would make a good "fully kitted" FR weapon. I was thinking: -Avalon M4 SOPMOD (great externals, some extra goodies) -M203 (maybe) -PEQ-15 (not sure if these ever made it into the hands of FR guys) -Aimpoint (not sure on mount) -553 (this or Aimpoint) -What else to fill out the RIS? a SureFire? -Do FR guys ever paint their rifle? Pics would be great! Thanks
pforcerecon
Oggy: Yes they use the peq-15 and some peq-2's still..eotech's and aimpoints are good, I think cantilever mounts for the aimpoint but I have seen different ones. Surefire yes, either a scout, M900 would suffice, and from a few pictures they don't really paint they're guns except maybe the stock or grip..but that's about it. If I find some pics I'll post em' up. Here hope some of these help:
AdmittingSword
Hey guys, I've got a quick question, what would make a good "fully kitted" FR weapon. I was thinking: -Avalon M4 SOPMOD (great externals, some extra goodies) You'd want to replace the crane stock with a standard M4 or LE stock -M203 (maybe) For the love of grenade launchers, get a barrel-mounted M203 -PEQ-15 (not sure if these ever made it into the hands of FR guys) I have seen Dark Earth PEQ-15s in the hands 9guns) of FR operators -Aimpoint (not sure on mount) I've yet to see many modern pics of FR using the Aimpoints. They fit in better for 2001ish (I think) FR -553 (this or Aimpoint) If you want an EOTech, I'd say a 552 is the most 'kosher' -What else to fill out the RIS? a SureFire? I've seen pics of Surefires, but I'm unsure of the exact model >_< -Do FR guys ever paint their rifle? I have seen the stock, pistol grip, and RIS covers painted in a sort of tan color Pics would be great! Thanks Just my $.
