Full Steel Dboys AKSU

chas

Sorry, but it seems like the body and some other stuff have always been steel. Below you can read my original post to see how I phailed!

While this is not overwhelming news, it is good news: it seems like DBoys (Kalash, Boyi) have listened to the complaints about their AK74 bodies and, especially, stocks cracking, so they have decided to attack the issue frontally: by changing the pot metal bodies for steel ones.

Imagine how good your "used" AKSU will look now, when you can weather it just like the real thing.

To go even further, imagine full steel M14s.... my problem with building a classic M14 around a clone has always been that clone M14s are all painted pot metal and that this "tacticool" flat black just doesnt cut the cake when it comes to replicating a 60's M14. Period.

So all we can do is hope that, the same way CYMA, JG, A&K and AGM have followedDboys' trend of metal guns, they will soon follow Dboys' (hopefully soon to come) trend of full steel AEGs.

This news was sent to airsoft-news.eu by the people at Gunfire.pl

If I may say so, congrats to everyone!

Front-page of airsoft-news for anyone who wants to see a pic of the unpainted steel AK. Clones are definitely taking it in the right direction, a solid steel gun is great not only for looks and realism, but especially awesome for those of us who put our guns through hell and back over the course of a skirmish.

Well, I was hoping that the picture is not of an unpainted, but an unfinished body. If they take the effort of making steel bodies they could also finish them by oxidization or ferulous galvanization or whatever RS AKs are finished with.

Forget full steel clones: enter Chinese time machine.

I've had a steel Dboys AK for months! How did that happen?

Dboys AK's have always had steel parts.

Where did you hear about the stocks cracking?

Maybe they're re-releasing the AKS-74U with a steel gas block, but even then that's not totally new since Unicorn has had that for ages.

Wow, I just checked Gunner's and indeed it says "steel". Guess I paid to much attention to the pic of the blank body. Hmmm....

I guess the news is that now everything on the gun is steel. Dang!

Anyway, Ive heard of at least 3 people (and just on this forums) who've had their stocks broken or severely damaged.

This forum is probably home to the most Dboys Kalash owners out there (me being one of them)... those 3 people make a very small percentage and they probably had the earlier versions with all its kinks..

You should really change that statement to "clones are headed in the right direction".

VFC AK's have been full steel for...years now...

Um...care to elaborate?

There's no pot metal on my AK74S or AK74SU...

VFC barrels are aluminium. magnet test it if you dont believe me :)

so, do Dboys actually MEAN full steel this time? i hope so, the breaking stock hinges and bolts have made me worry about their current models, if they fix that i'll be happy, not too bothered about the other small parts being pot metal, but then again if they did make them steel i'd never buy a VFC again.

edit: there's a thought! if they're going full steel, what's to say they wont start doing proper gloss finish again. we can hope.

"ferrosa" means Ferrous. Steel is a Ferrous metal. "aluminio", Aluminum, non-ferrous.

Either way, it means stronger stuff and looks sexy when worn.

Yeah- thats what I take away from this, being a Kalash owner, looking at the pics of this 'new' product, the blued steel seems to have a better finish that the most recent products- a little more like a Unicorn but blued instead of black/greyish. The rivets as well as the spot-weld marks look better than on my 2 Kalash's.

Numbers on the top cover....always very cool- I would have been even happier if they had given us a brand new serial number to go along with that.

And the area that still needs most improvement, the wood furniture.

Also, why no DBoyi/Kalash Plum furniture set option? 'Dark Brown' ?? yeeech

Well this means that there is now ZERO reason to buy a Unicorn AKS-74U, and DBoys is presumably now a 100% clone of VFC?

I'm also inclined to think that the new all steel RK-01 will have a higher price point than the older half steel model. Perhaps the retailers will drop the price on the old stock? I doubt DBoys will continue to produce the half steel model.

Still leaning towards the CYMA though, as I trust the internals out of the box and all reports seem to indicate that while the CYMA is diecast metal, it is much more solid in construction that the rather loose tolerances of the DBoys. That, and it ought to be cheaper...

snorkelman reckons that some parts of the Dboys internals are better than cyma's as well. plus the cyma is NOT more solid, it is held together with screws, wheras the Dboys is pinned (like the RS) plus the cyma's pot metal stock hinges crack sometimes (OK, so so do the current Dboys, but nonetheless the cyma is NOT the better choice).

stamped steel is sturdier than cast pot metal, and plus, what will cost more? upgrading the cyma to steel externals or upgrading the Dboys with a tightbore and metal bushings?

If Kalash/Dboys made a full stocked (not the AK74MN) style AK, ala' AKM or AK74, I'd definitely be interested. I prefer having a large battery in my AK rather than a small capacity stick battery, which is why I'm getting an 036 in the mail. :D

Regardless, Chinese companies should take this as an example to up their game. I mean JG is just NOW doing metal bodies which are most likely pot-metal.

good to see they've added steel machining to the steel pressing they were already doing perhaps we'll finally get folks to accept that the chinese low end manufacs are serious about their product development

my only concern is that they now decide to blue it rather than paint it - they've already appeared to pander to those that want a 'more realistic' matte finish AKSU even when their original version was more in keeping with real finish, lets hope they dont go down the line of turning it into an 'even more realistic and easily weatherable' blued steel one..

their boxes claim they'll be doing a fullstock. i reckon theyre just milking the current receiver so they can release as many guns as possible before having to make a new receiver. which begs the question, when the full stock receiver is out, reckon we might have a chance of an RPK? :)

and yeah, the bluing doesnt sound good. i'd rather have the proper gloss finish and just put a bit more work into it if i want to weather it... it'd look more realistic either way.
