Rambo Kid
they're far from worthless, just not quite as good. So the Dboys AKS74 is not full steel? This is the one I want, as I really like the look of the AKS74.
my_plague_666
nope, but neither is the cyma. they're partially steel partially pot metal (the cyma has an important part in steel that the dboys doesnt though) if you have the money why not go for this: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2132 full steel, outstanding quality, best AKS74 out there. they also have the version with the scope mount (AKS74N) for about 10 dollars more, although the non scope mounted version is discontinued and a bit rarer (looks nicer IMO too)

About the VFC, I've heard they're the best AKs on the market, but my price range is about $200-$250USD. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Dboys AKS74.

I'm so excited for my first Kalashnikov!!! Thanks alot my_plague_666 for your help! EDIT: Final question (for now anyways): Black or Bakelite '74 magazines in the AKS74? CapaciousZepher
Plum. End of story Cheers! - CapaciousZepher
my_plague_666
bakelite 45 rounders MAG do boxes of 5 of them, 140 rounds do a bit of refinishing with varnish and stuff and you can get them to look almost exactly like real bakelite. add a tourniquet on the stock and some weathering and you have one badass AKS plum look better in AKSUs IMO, but you have to get proper plum mags. MAG ones don't have the ribbing on them, to look any good you need to convert real steel to G&P/VFC mag internals (horrible missfeeding things) or just use G&P mags. cheaper to buy a couple of boxes of MAG bakelites (30 or 45 rounders) and some mahogany varnish (+ whatever else you can find to improve the effect)
CapaciousZepher
Actually that's true. I'm using the plums in my SU, and they look great. The are the MAG plum mags though, so they are a bit lacking, but I think they look pretty good. Cheers! - CapaciousZepher
my_plague_666
from a distance yeah, but no where near as good as bakelite, especially 45 rounders. i just like being a bit bold and different by being the only guy at my site to use extended orange bakelite mags
PlasticMag
I love my MAG 74M mags but they're a little temperamental - I have to keep them REALLY well oiled.
Rambo Kid
New question: Where can I get a sling for the AKS?
PlasticMag
eBay works, or most airsoft shops sell the G&P early-style AK sling. Interesting note about my CYMA AK74M - it has 7mm metal bushings and a milled slot for the VFC-style blowback unit. I'll open it up after the game tomorrow and see what the internals look like.
