M0ldyM!LK
Having seen a F/A-22 demonstration, I voted for it... It's maneuvering capabilities are just ... insane. Not to mention, you don't hear it until it's on top of you.

tank423
"Not to mention, you don't hear it until it's on top of you" same with most ww2 aircraft numnuts the only reason the typhoon and tempest were redesigned as ground attack was because the small wings made it ultra manoverable at low levels, he higher it went the worse it became to fly. the uber supercharger also helped alot and made the lancaster arguably the best bomber of ww2
GuzziHero
the plane the really won the Battle of Britain... [/snip] <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank you! Even coming from Stoke on Trent, where Mitchell was born, I appreciate that the Hurricane and not the Spitfire was the aircraft that saved our butts. Not enough people appreciate the fact that it was harder to kill, easier to repair, and was the more stable platform for anti-bomber work...which is the main thing that saved us. Destroying fighters was cool, destroying bombers was vital. My mate (not on these forums) adds a vote for the Mosquito.

The Waco Kid
Bestest aircraft and no frame of comparision? Due to some highly unimaginative suggestions I suggest searching for WIG (Wing In Ground effect) technology or Ekranoplane designs. My reasoning being that these aircraft are capabale of operating in a wide range of conditions usually reserved for specialist vehicles. Including: Stol/Vstol/Vtol NOE & ultra low level high speed Amphibious/Maritime High cargo capacity Stealthy operations Also they kick *albartroth*....
fanta101
Think someone has already said that one, and the WWII typhoon was designed as a fighter but was lacking in manouverability so along with the Tempest was reassigned to ground attack and tank busting roles, taking over from the Hurricane. I also think the Thunderbolt was one of the best prop fighters to come out of WWII even if it was american. Ok if we are talking across history what about the F86, or the F4? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> F86 was nice but the F4 didn't have a gun! The designers thought with the invention of long range guided missiles, dog fighting was useless and a thing of the past. That was one of the reasons that the USAF came out with the top gun (can't remember the real name) school for dog fighting. And now, even the F22 has a machine gun on it. Insanejoe
F86 was nice but the F4 didn't have a gun! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wrong, later versions like the F-4E had an M-61 vulcan cannon to address that issue.

Jagdraben
F-20 Tigershark for sheer secks. F-35B Lightning II for versatility. F-22A Raptor (none of this YF-22 and F/A-22 ######. The aircraft's designation is F-22A) for being the best (which is good, given what we're paying for it). Su-47 Berkut for looking like it will kill you and all you love. If Darth Vader (not the panty-waist from Episode I-III, but the real Dark Vader from the original trilogy) had a custom fighter made for him, it would look like the Su-47. EDIT: Screw the Tigershark. The Saeqeh is where it's at. EDIT2: Gah. So many sexiful fighters. From Freedom Fighter to Tiger II to Cobra to Hornet. F/A-18 Foxtrot Tango Whiskey. Although, the best overall would have to go to any one of these.

Epyon
Has anyone mentioned the B-52 yet? C'mon, over 40 years old and still kickin a** and taking names I voted for the Raptor though - absolutely untouchable

Leadmill
B-52 will be in service until 2040, although they periodically rebuild and retro fit them, which is ok I guess Fanta101 thats assuming the military don't get cold feet and pull the plug like they did on so many other projects.... Jagdraben
I want to see an F-22A, F/A-18, or F-35 (any variant) in Israeli camouflage. Their camo is sexiful.... [/off-topic]
fanta101
Well there are already UCAVs in Iraq being used and UAVs for Intel etc.. They will no doubt replace manned aircraft since they can be considered expendable and have no risk to the pilots (can't say the same for the guys on the receiving end). evilliboba
Yeah, nothing 100% machine will be able to fly like a human is able to. As for my favorite, F-15, never been shot down IIRC. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As of 2005, the F-15 in all air forces has an air-to-air combined kill record of 104 kills to 0 losses in air combat (as confirmed by its users,[citation needed] and excluding the case of a Japanese F-15J that shot down another F-15J in 1995 due to an AIM-9 Sidewinder safety malfunction during air-to-air combat training with live weapons).[4][5] The US and Israel maintain that to date, the air superiority versions of the F-15 (F-15A/B/C/D models) have never been shot down by an enemy.
