I have my own ideals, but I'm also perfectly rational. I'm voting for McCain/Palin because I think they are going to need every vote they can get in order to defeat Obama/Biden. While I don't agree with a number of Republican policies, I think that the Democrats and their brand of socialism are the utmost evils.

EDIT:

I don't consider myself a feminist, but I do find the amount of sexism in this campaign disgusting. It's pitiful that someone can go ahead and call Palin a "MILF" and not suffer any consequences and yet be expected to face a wall of flak when calling Obama a Muslim.

The Badger just noticed something, trigger discipline anyone? everyone cries fowl when some kid posts in the picture thread with his index curled and ready, but no-one gives two hoots when the possible next president does it? maybe they were distracted by what was behind the rifle

If you look more carefully at the 1,300 searches Hitwise tracked, one of the most commonly entered search topics surrounding Palin was "hot photos." Other queries common to the American public: "Sarah Palin Bikini Photos," "Sarah Palin Naked," "Sarah Palin Nude."

Yeah , I really should cut down on that...

Just kidding! I won't.

EDIT: Just watching South Park. Must resist changing the poll to read "Giant Douche" and "Turd Sandwich" :o

You do know that without "socialism", as you like to put it, you'd only be making $0.15/hr right?

Without "socialism" You'd have to work for your entire life, until the moment you drop dead.

Guess I missed the memo where if you employed people, you were a wannabe slave owner :/ I can see your point, but I think you might be exaggerating slightly.

Honestly? I've been working minimum wage since january, and I only just quit.(First real job which wasn't cash in hand) My job didn't pay me any extra for over time, didn't get paid if you were ill etc, so yeah, I think thats pretty low. Didn't make me wanna go into work with a rage against the machine t shirt and punch my manager(s) in the face though.

edit cause I missed your edit.

Sure, corporations don't care about me, but then I don't have to give them my money. My government sure as *fruitcage* doesn't care about me, and will *suitcase* all over me given half the chance. Problem is, I have to give them money, even on my measly pay they still managed to some out of me (it was like 12p or something, but still.)

Have you ever thought of the possibility that maybe some people find work gratifying?

As for minimum wage, don't make me laugh. There is a thing called higher education. It's all about supply and demand - if your expertise is in high demand, you can expect a fair bit more than "$0.15/hr."

Personally speaking, I like the feeling of working hard and receiving a paycheck every two weeks (I'm going to find a part-time job now that I'm in college). I don't like it when Uncle Sam steals a third of my income before I even see my paycheck. There some righteous taxes - we must maintain a top-notch military, for example. However, fleecing hardworking people in order to feed the lazy is nothing more than theft. You don't want to starve? Get off your *albatross* and find a job.

You've got a good point, but on the other hand you can't really compare saying that you'd like to *fruitcage* someone with lying about their religion to smear them.

Speaking of which, here's a great clip from the Daily Show slamming the hypocrisy of Karl Rove and Fox News commentators on the gender card:

Mrs Palin, is I believe being taught to fire the gun. this would generally involve pulling the trigger. Certainly we did so in skill at arms lessons back in the day.

That's a solid point. Well said.

I'm all about personal freedoms, which include freedom of religion. As insane as this may sound to some, I don't have a problem with Obama being a Muslim. I won't judge him based solely on his religion of choice. After all, don't we all worship the same Creator? He may be God to some, Allah to others, and Jehovah to still more. I judge people by their deeds, not their natures.

However, I do have a problem with Obama's attitude toward his background. Especially, I am disturbed by the way he willingly and eagerly sells out those closest to him in order to make himself look more presentable to certain groups. He was quickly to say that his African grandmother "has always been a Christian" when in fact she has been a Muslim all her life (Christianity would not have allowed her to become one of 14 wives to one man). He was quick to sacrifice his mentor of 20 years in the name of political convenience. He even betrayed his own name - telling certain Jewish groups that his name is derived from Hebrew when "Barack Hussein Obama" is clearly derived from Arabic.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with what Obama believes in - just like how I didn't have a problem with Clinton getting a ###### in the Oval Office. However, what they have done to hide these facts (which shouldn't be hidden at all) is what alarms me.

"I never had relations with THAT woman." Anyone?

I just have a problem with Democrats' integrity. The lies are a lot worse than the deed.

I'm leaning towards Obama this election but wouldn't mind seeing McCain in office. Obama will probably take some action towards getting us out of Iraq, possibly roll back any encroachment on civil rights from the Patriot Act and such, and he doesn't seem like a typical tax and spend Democrat. Possibly from hanging around the economics department when he taught at Chicago University. I don't like how the Democrats are bailing out Wall St. however. They are the ones pushing the Federal government to buy these worthless CMOs, CDOs, credit swaps and other questionable assets from big time investment banks that only serve to prop up the rich and reward bad behavior. I mean this is a trillion dollars here and the Democrats have been leading the way.

McCain wouldn't be too bad either. I'm assuming that both the House and the Senate will go to the Democrats this year and having a Republican president creates a bit of grid lock. Even better if the Democrats get less than 60 (or 66? I forget the rules) Senators to give the Republicans filibuster power. Big, fat gridlock so nothing gets done. Probably the best situation a libertarian can hope for.

Or I may just vote third party again. New York is going Democrat anyway.

edit: Reborn, Obama isn't a Muslim.

I believe the exact quote was "My Grandmother has always been a Christian" and that he was talking about his other Grandmother - though I hadn't heard or read that comment myself before, could you tell me where this oft used phrase originated?

To be honest, there's so much ###### about both candidates on t'interweb it's damn near impossible to seperate fact from fiction.

found this on the name thing:

http://itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl/languagelog...ves/004187.html

Seems it's both Arabic and Swahili. Weird, two languages using the same word - like discotheque or café for example. Anyone would think there was a long history of trade between the Arabic and Swahili speaking regions or something. Apparently some linguists teach the common heritage of both Arabic and Hebrew languages - again it's odd isn't it that two languages originating in a fairly small geographic area would have a common heritage?

Hyperbole?

Here, read this, it's generally spot on:

I think it's hypocritical for people to frown upon democrats for bailing out corporations when republicans would probably do the same given the chance. Maybe it's just because it's so unexpected.

Maybe, maybe not. So far the Republicans in Congress have been fairly quiet.

This is the problem. You are voting against Obama for the wrong reasons. You don't like the trend of people voting for Obama purely due to the cult of personality so you go the other way. This makes your choice just as arbitrary as theirs.(dunno weather that sentence was very clear).

Also, socialism? Don't make me laugh. Obama is further right than our conservative party.

Do any Britons here have a problem with the way some of the republican americans seem to be bashing the "evil" socialism that obama supposedly is pushing for? Considering how the UK is pretty socialist itself when compared to the US.

As for who will win in november, it will very likely be McCain. There are enough dumb hicks and rednecks in my country to swing the vote his way.

I haven't heard much about "evil" socialism, but the concept intrigues me. I'll have a read, sounds like a laugh.

EDIT: A cursory glance on Google under "Barack+Evil+Socialism" and I'm afraid I may wet myself laughing. Hoo boy, can anybody read this *suitcase* without laughing or feeling faintly concerned that other people believe some of this stuff?

I'd definatly have to vote McCain/ Palin on this one. I'm not to keen on the idea of haveing someone lead this country that has, 147 days of "political" experience behind him. Also, I don't want to work just as hard as usual, but get less money because I have to pay for some lazy fat *albatross*' claiming he has "injuries to the degree that I cannot work" just so he can get goverment funded health care and have food on his table. Or should I have to pay for the pregnent mother down the street who needs extended medical leave because her employer doesn't offer it and she doesn't feel it neccesary to practice safe sex, even though she knows full well that she can't support a child, so then the hard working American tax payer should have to pay for it without a choice? I think thats called socialisim. Also on Iraq, we can't just leave. If we do, then everything we have done there and all the servicemen that were lost would go to nothing. It is crucial that we stay and finish the job. Also, as much progress as the Iraqi military and police making, it's still not enough to be able to run there own country. If we leave, not only will the present government lose control, but the terrorisim situation will be even worse then before we went in. Also, I'd like to be able to purchase rifles, handguns, shotguns and god forbid the terrible "Assualt Rifle" because everyone knows the only reason anyone would want such a cruel device is to be able to murder innocent school children and there mothers.

They're all nut jobs.

As it boils down to in so many Presidential elections: Electing the lesser of two incompetent, unfit for office individuals is still electing an incompetent, unfit for office individual. I'd consider giving my vote to the Libertarian party, but their candidates are regularly nothing more than GOP rejects. Ron Paul would make a possible write-in, but he has yet to say a single thing that's anything more than hot gas.

Locally, things don't get any better. Our governor has publicly claimed to have rigged the 2006 US Senate elections, but the AG has refused to investigate, despite the fact that everyone on both aisles is screaming for it. The US Rep isn't being seriously opposed by anyone (but I'll likely vote for whoever is running against him just because he does nothing) and the US Senator up for re-election seems a decent-enough fellow, but he's unquestionably a career politician.

I've never been less motivated to vote. And this in an election cycle where people my age are supposed to be getting fired up as never before!
