no, the AK round is a 7.62mmx39mm, whereas the NATO round is 7.62mmx54mm.

 

the difference is in cartridge size and amount of propellant used.

Nope, NATO is 7.62x51. You're thinking of the 7.62x52 rimmed Russian used in things like the Dragunov and PK.

 

Also, the NATO round is much more pointed than the 7.62 Warsaw Pact.
