Fuser
that 5th picture is spooky/amazing how did you get that foggy effect? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Glad you asked. Here is the original, then the final. I darkened it, upped the contrast, and saturated it a bit. Then I used the Blur tool on the sides along the tree line and sky. Darkened the sky with the paintbrush, and added a moon. edit Also, it was taken through the front windshield of a moving car while snow was coming at us, which gave it a "foggy" look in the first place; some of the sections that look blurred are really just ice on the windshield. Lord Blackgoat
Went to my Regiment to train a bunch of new recruits for two weeks, and took some pictures. That one came out quite well IMO: Shot with a crappy HP Photosmart E317.

blacknight
just a few ive taken over the years, some for college, some for my own enjoyment.
sniper_boi
And you want to spend how much money? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We're looking into the region of £400.
pillow_pwnage
I'd go for one of the higher end Fujifilm models such as as the s9000z or s9100, those should be within your budget. If not that, the Canon Powershot series is great, the S5 is a great camera in your range.
Holmes
Do you know what I love about this thread? It seems the best pictures are on the worst cameras
Triggerhappychappy
I dunno about that.... I never realised it would be so difficult to get a half decent shot by sticking the lens down the eyeball end of a rifle scope. I shall continue my experimenting.... Shot using an ACER CI-6330 6 Megapixel camera.
Arghoslent93
If you want a camera that will take quality pictures, an entry-level DSLR such as the Nikon D40 or D40x are good starts. A D40 with an 18-55mm lens will set you back around £350, and you can upgrade with various lenses depending on what type of photos you want to take.
Lord Blackgoat
I agree with that, SLR is the way to go if you want to do nice pictures. Then lessons on techniques, then on lighting and composition. Have fun!
Fuser
I'm considering a Nikon D40, they perform very well.
pillow_pwnage
They have such limited lens selection, I'd much rather opt for a D50.
Fuser
As a matter of fact I've been looking at both of those. Is lens selection the only reason to choose the D50 over the D40? I'm trying to decide between a D40x and a D50x.
PlasticMag
Render - which road is that photo of the 'foggy night' from? It looks really friggin' familiar.
doopydoo
Ah pillow- you play bass? ... YAY bassists!
pillow_pwnage
In all fairness, for most people the D40 should be a fine camera, there are enough lenses for a medium ammount of situations, but I, needing a large selection of quality lenses would never opt for it. It should be fine for you I would guess. Doopy, I dont play bass =P
sniper_boi
Here's my input, taken with a Fujifilm Finepix A600. Best thing is, not a lick of Photoshop in any of them.
