blanksight
I have a leatherman wave, 4 various sized opinels, various cheap lock knives and an 18" parang from borneo. Edited June 10, 2007 by blanksight
Fizzy
Nice commando knife fizzy, was your grandad a commando? if not who else did they issue them to? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He was actually in the R.E.M.E. so I've no idea how he was issued it
SilentScope
SC....that is like, totally illegal here.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Â For carry, yes. But that is what my SnG is for. Although this one cop I talked to a month ago said the 4" rule was over, but Id ask a lawyer if I ever really wanted to know. Legal or not, Id probably end up with a summons if I got caught with it, so no carry in NYC Â I think the TAD one will just go on camping trips and *beep*. And be used for pictures. It's not illegal to own outright in NYC is it? If that is the case, I'll just let it stay at my parents' house upstate. Â Sorry, I'm law-tarded
r.ocelot
Don't sweat that 4" law, my previous post was meant to be taken lightly. You'll be fine as long as it's out of sight and you're not dressed like a thug :-) Outside of NYC is a-ok.
SilentScope
Lawl I sort have figured that. I just like to be on the right side of the law. There are some asswhipe NYPD officers out there, and some really cool ones. The asswhipes make your life a living hell if you get caught doing something wrong, and the cool ones make you feel disappointed in yourself. Either way, do the right thing in NYC. Â I just realized I spelt strider wrong in my first post. Hope Mick dont find out and beat my *albatross* Â man I cant wait to get that knife. The swedge is so pretty. Â Â And for the record, I at least know that west of the Hudson everything is fair game. Well, compared to NYC
uscmCorps
Goddamn *fruitcage* stider addiction <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  LOL! I know what you mean by the Strider addiction, Bro. Here's my current collection of fixed blade Striders... from left to right: MTL (No Stripes), MTL, MH, MT-MOD10 Sniper   Speaking of which... I've started making my own sheaths for them in Multicam:  Here's one of my MTLs:   MOLLE webbing on the back:   With my Eagle Multicam CIRAS:  I have my other MTL and its custom Multicam Sheath mounted on a Tactical Tailor Multicam leg rig:    I've been making the Multicam sheaths to the same specs and dimensions as the original Eagle and SOTech Sheaths they came with. Only difference being that I dropped the external mag/utility pouch each sheath has as... to be honest, I never use the outer pouch and I wanted to see the camo pattern instead. The Multicam is real 1000D Coated Crye Multicam. The edging is milspec Coyote Brown, same as what Eagle uses. Same goes for the 1" Coyote Brown webbing used for the straps, and the 1" Coyote Brown MOLLE webbing on the back of the sheath. I decided to go with MOLLE for mounting rather than the original style the sheaths are made with mostly because the MOLLE just makes it more versatile. The black snaps and grommets were a quick and fun learning experience but I wanted to stay true to the original design of the Eagle Ind. sheaths (I usually do straps with velcro).  Still need to finish Multicam sheaths for my other two Fixed Blade Striders, the MH and the MT-MOD10. Thinking about buying a Strider D9-SS and a regular MT...  I'm debating having one of these knives coated in Crye Multicam but I have a feeling given the wear marks on the knives and their contact points in the Kydex sheaths, the finish may not last long.  Hope you guys like 'em (and I hope you do not feel I've taken up too much space!) Sorry about the quality of the pics, BTW!  -Alex
SilentScope
I see you caught the fixed-blade version of the addiction Damn nice stuff, I swear strider fixed blades are the closest to indestructible you can get. Â You seen the MkA1 multicam blade? Daaaamn. Although these days it would make much more sense to just get one water transferred yourself now that it's offered in more places. Â Do you own any folders, or are you all about the big toys?
uscmCorps
You seen the MkA1 multicam blade? Daaaamn. Although these days it would make much more sense to just get one water transferred yourself now that it's offered in more places. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Yeah... that's what inspired me to consider getting it done. Although, I just don't know if I can bring myself to doing one.  Do you own any folders, or are you all about the big toys? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  I used to own a SMF Drop Point with Double Gunner Grips and a SNG. Sold them off a few years back (which I now regret). The Recurves are looking pretty damn tasty though. I currently own a couple Buck/Strider folders (they're basically inexpensive SNGs) as my day to day carrys. Mostly because they're so cheap (less $50 a piece). That way I'm not terribly concerned about f'ing them up or loosing them. They stay pretty sharp but one's lost its point and could use a resharpening.  I also recently bought a Buck/Strider Drop Point Fixed Blade as an experiment. It's basically the size of a Mk1A... so pretty huge but cost me less than $85 (normally retail for $130-ish). I was thinking of removing the plastic grips and lacing them with paracord - Strider style. Then make a Multicam sheath for it, put it on ebay and see how it does. Not going to sell it as a Strider obviously because it's still a Buck/Strider collaboration, but it'll be pretty unique and a somewhat decent blade.
gonzo1
uscmCorps, Nicely done! Are you using a Kydex insert? I'll have to add that to ye olde production que once I'm able to get back to the sewing machine. Edited June 11, 2007 by gonzo1
uscmCorps
I'd like to make the kydex inserts too... I just don't know of any decent suppliers of Kydex in the US, so if you know of any, please let me know. In the meantime, I basically just slide the kydex inserts straight out of the original OD green sheaths and slide them into the Multicam Sheaths. I've made real Kydex knife sheaths in the past. The inserts that they use in the Strider Sheaths are much more simple and are just a sheet of kydex wrapped around the knife once with one side overlapping. No trimming or anything complicated. Just a tube really. Â The difficulty is the length... different manufacturers of the sheaths (e.g. Eagle or SOTech), make the kydex inserts in different lengths. If I wanted to do this in large volume, I'd really have to start making the Kydex inserts too.

r.ocelot
Aye, saw that on the USN a few months ago, thought those guys were pretty damn stupid. That vid of teh strider vs old skool buick was really cool. Â USMC, fantastic job on the sheaths, they look like production grade (not that it looks mass produced, just very professional) items. I'm starting to think more and more about just making a bunch with custom multicam sheaths with Kydex inserts and selling them on ebay etc. I may not have a production pipeline to make thousands of these in one go, but I make them to hold up under the same conditions as that of the original sheaths.  Yeah that video... I kept waiting to see one of those two guys slip on the knife and slice right through their hands. Now that I would have been something to see! lol

SilentScope
I got a whiff of the new Strider smell today. This knife is a beast! *beep* is huge!     ohhhhhh look at the upper swedge ocelot. ohhhhh baby just look at it. And the TAD logo, goes nice with my stealth hoodie  Like I said earlier, I bought it off badlands forums, which was a great experience. This knife is brand new, and it came in <48 hrs. r.ocelot
Fantastic pics as usual, I just got myself D40 (came in today), and I might be able to take great looks pics like you one day  Word of advice- don't sharpen the upper swedge, it might be classified as a dagger in some areas. SilentScope
Yeah, it's gonna just keep its factory false-edge  Dude, the SMF makes my SNG look tiny! WTF, I used to think my SNG was huge. If I see a bear in the woods now I'm just gonna think dinner time with this honey LOLOL  And as long as you know the basics, once you got a DSLR you can take pretty pictures. IDK about the ones I just posted, I rushed a bit because it was raining on my 20D. Otherwise I would have got all artfag and put some water drops on the blade and *beep*
