Bit of porn for y'all - my new Spyderco UK Pen Knife, along with the rest of my general EDC stuff (except keys, oops). Strider HAK Talon is there too, although it's illegal to carry ;)

The TAD Gear capsule is an excellent bit of kit, especially with the crowned strike bezel, so that's there too :)

Its a CRKT Corkum First Strike. Just about the only thing they are good for is pokin'. I heard the factory edge is pretty bad, and they are a *badgeress* to get sharp. Hope your good at reprofiling Maverick.

How is its performance out of the box? What kind of edge does it have? Kinda Dull, kinda sharp, sharp, pretty sharp, really sharp, stupid sharp, or scary shaving sharp?

Im just interested in hearing first hand.

Its a good lookin peice though.

That buckle knife looks like its only made from stainless steel, and therefore it wont be sharp in any meaningful way ....

Is it chrome'd or something?

It's not stainless, the code of the steel is 420.12 or D2 or somethin.....I'm not familiar with knife or steel, but thats what i remembered from the seller. It's the only "good" knife I got :). I posted the video, dont know about you, but for me thats pretty sharp :)

Here's a better pic.

420 J2 steel? It is stainless steel dude, thats surgical steel (piercing jewellery is made of the same exact stuff) and I forgot; it can be extremely sharp, its just that I've never had any thats particularly sharp myself :)

I would take a closer look at a razorblade sometime if I were you though, I guarantee that the razor is sharper, it just doesn't have the weight & control thats available to an actual knife, hence its flimsy ineffectuallness against a sheet of paper. Try shaving with the buckle knife and see if that works :D

Cool piece man, and for $50 with the belt included you can't really go wrong!

My bad :P . Sorry bout that. It's 420.12, not 420.J2. I did actually try to shave myself with it(stupid idea), it sure shaved me pretty good, and left a tiny cut <_< . LOL. To be honest its pretty sharp as it is, but i did try to show it off to a friend once by cutting a credit card" type of card, it damaged the blade. I brought it back to the seller to get it sharpen again for free.

1 question:

Can a knife be extremely sharp and strong at the same time. Causing its sharpness unaffected by minor abuse? Coz I have seen a real jap samurai that is extremely sharp, but considering its meant for battle, wouldnt it damage the blade during blows?? Just a curious thought....

I own several Japanese swords dating back 500-1000 years. Extremely well forged folded steel blades. Several have minor nicks from battle. No matter how strong the blade is, when they hit another blade in battle, it will be damaged to some extent. However if you take one of these true swords and chop a cheap new-age wanna-be, you can literally chop the cheap one in half and barely make a mark on the real one's edge (ive done it).

In real sword fighting two blades rarely come in contact edge to edge. When you block a strike you actually rotate your wrist to block the oncoming blade with the back of your blade, not the sharpened edge...just a little random info for ya
