dobey
I am converting a Star AW .338 sniper into an airsoft copy of Accuracy International's Arctic Warfare .50 caliber sniper rifle for a board member. Here is a pic of the real steal AW .50: First thing that has to go on the Star is the muzzle break, the AW .50 has a very unique muzzle break so it was constructed from scratch. And with the magic of the internet it goes from a few pieces of billet 6061 T6 aluminum to this: Gonna hit a pic limit so forgive me double posting.
dobey
here are a couple more pics of the flash hider on the barrel. I will add more as it is completed.

Wupjak
Very ambitious project, very nice machine work. Thumbs up! Business end of the brake looks like JP's 'Sherman Tank' brake. Very effective, but it sucks to be sitting at the range station on my left or right! Heh. Keep up the good work!
Stealthbomber
Wow! Turning an uncomfortably big rifle into an even more uncomfortably big rifle!? Excellent work so far. I only hope the owner actually understands what they're getting themselves into. It's either going to be a beautiful wall-hanger or a white elephant on the field. Incidentally, the muzzle brake is supposed to have a cone fitted inside the front of it.
Catman
Nice project, what grade aluminium (sorry... "aloominum" ) are you using? Nice craftsmanship I'm interested to see how you're going to tackle the main body part, keep the pics coming

Well its me, so if it does its job it'll slow me down enough that sniping gets hard/enjoyable again
amateurstuntman
There are more than one type of flash hiders on this one.
dobey
Incidentally, the muzzle brake is supposed to have a cone fitted inside the front of it. This is why I said I will add more pics of the brake when it is completed Working on the piece that will make the base of the barrel larger and tapered atm, have stopped for lunch. The aluminum is all 6061 t6 Catman. It is easy to get, easy to machine and anodizes well so I don't even keep anything else in the shop.
Docv400
More technical-porn from Dobey Nice work (as always), keep the pics coming. Damn. I want/need a mill so badly now...just as soon as my meagre few shares climb a little more I can get one. Problem is, thanks to the Terminal 5 fiasco, it doesn't look like they'll be worth much for a good long while now
my_plague_666
There are more than one type of flash hiders on this one. thats a flash hider (at least i think so). he's made the muzzle break. the idea of firing a .50 BMG sniper without a muzzle break always scares me a bit
mattmanic
Could somone explain the difference between a flash hider and a muzzle break? I always just asumed that they were different words for the same thing
Direct
Could somone explain the difference between a flash hider and a muzzle break? I always just asumed that they were different words for the same thing flash hider, hides flash of fired shot muzzle break uses gases coming from a barrel to lower recoil
my_plague_666
muzzle break uses gases coming from a barrel to lower recoil causing the exact opposite of a flash hider, as this amplified noise and muzzle flash.
Spencedaddy
good.....lord.....that is possibly the coolest looking sniper rifle i have ever seen......that muzzle break is completely ridiculous....please put some more pics up please..this is the epitomy of gun porn... dobey
short update. I finished up the main pieces for the muzzle break. Got the barrel base piece made as well. I didn't have the right size pipe for it so made it from a solid block. Now onto the action of the gun. Just a sneak at that till it is done.
