Usually a chrome pistol is a tactical disadvantage, since anything shiny that can give you away isn't worth having if you don't need it. Real cops do use stainless steel guns, generally revolvers (or they used to) and the occasional private purchase when the officer either preferred a two-tone or stainless finish to a blued finish and/or there wasn't a blued handgun at the local gunshop that they wanted. If you're a right handed shooter, your right eye pics up the dot and your left pics up everything in front of the gun, superimposing the dot on whatever you're looking at.
