Forum updates, feedback system and new versions

    By Arnie

Firstly I'm going to try to document forum updates and other work completed to the site here in my forum blog. This will keep all the forum related updates in one place.   I've completed several updates to the forums today. We're now running the latest IPS versions for Gallery and Blog. There should be several bug fixes and feature adjustments with these new versions; I don't get a list I'm afraid or I'd publish it.   I've also taken comments on the trading system on board and we now have a

Project Rhodie: The magazine related hissy fit

Well my those who've been following the Rhodie Project on my Facebook will know that my King Arms midcaps arrived a last! No sooner where they through the door the dremel and silicon spray were out and I was at work. For those not aware the KA G3 mags require the rear upper corner filed off to fit in the magazine housing correctly: a 30 second jobbie with a dremel on each mag and you're laughing.   Out came the Humbrol paint again and I was away, painting happily away making a mess of the plac

Project Rhodie: The bangstick!

So I got into the office ready for a long boring day of invoices, telling people to use google when looking for plate carriers and the fortunate highlights of mercilessly taking the ###### out of my boss. But inside I was really excited as I knew the delivery had been and in that delivery would be my G3! Well I got the the office and OH NOES!! No delivery! So there I was cursing the recent snow fall with a raging passion, cursing UPS for being ###### and cursing the cat for mewing at me constant

Project Rhodie: Adding paint to canvas...

I have my paints and I was ready to get cracking, so after experimenting on a bren pouch I was getting confident but the paint brush was looking rather dead so I decided to do this the old fashioned (and as it turns out: the historically accurate) way....my hands would be the paint brush! Donning the latex gloves as I'd just done my nails I was feeling like a school kid in art class.   As it happens painting the webbing with one's hands is exceptionally effective: you get a very uneven and blo

Project Rhodie: The paint saga

Okay so now I am finally ready to paint, I know the colours I'm after (well kinda) as they are simply known as babysh** yellow and forest green. Hand up fine I wasn't quite ready to paint them so I did some trawling online to find the right colours...success! The Rhodies used Du Pont vehicle paints on just about EVERYTHING! So I had my paint codes, I knew roughly how much I needed so I hit 'DuPont paint' into Google...nothing! I typed a few searches and came up with zip. Ah.   So I went on th

Project Rhodie: The webbing begins

So after doing a lot of research about what webbing the Rhodies used in the bush war I was very pleasantly surprised that Pattern 58 webbing was commonly used (heavily modified of course) along with Pattern 37, Pattern 64, SADF Pattern 70 and locally made copies of the previous. Due to restrictions the troopie used what he could get hold of, and people coming from overseas were often told if they do: bring webbing, more webbing and even more webbing.   As it just so happened I had at my dispos

Project Rhodie: Genesis

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...   Okay to be more precise it was actually Essex and was late last year but the initial introduction had a touch more class than "Last year in Essex" but that's not the point. I had been looking at Rhodesian history for a while on and off for a while last year as to be honest it's fascinating stuff both from a political sense and a military sense. However it never really went further than looking at photos and looking on Varusteleka for SADF and Rhodi

An Armorer's Dilemma

Every airsofter and his dog has guns that are modern, military, tactical, etc., etc. The problem starts when you need something… different. “Futuristic” is not a problem: G36, P90, MP7, USP, Tavor, you’re set. #The Ugly Stick works too (after all, for SeaQuest, the original Total Recall and Starship Troopers it did). But when you need post-nuke, steampunk, Wild West or just the Roaring Twenties, you’ve got a problem. My airsoft wishlist is a mile long. And some of the stuff is going to serve as

How I became an armorer

Airsofting is fun. Even if you run out of batteries, green gas and BBs, you can still walt around posing for photos (and remember, mud on your Weesatch makes the photos grittier and more "real"!). Sometimes even folks who don't airsoft want to walt around with your guns. For example, there's a local photography hobby group consisting of photographers, models and make-up artists, who organize weekly themed photoshoots - for example "Zombie Apocalypse", "Carnivale", "Weddings", "Alice in Wonderla

A Year Later and What Has Happened..........

Wow, so after another year has flown by what has changed?   Well my list now goes:   On woman number 15, damn i need to stop losing touch with them. On pistol 53, good times and many things to compare to, but still more to go. In a damn good job, enough said.   Well what else do i put here? Aside from living in airsoft hell which we all know about not much else. At least i actually have a chance to go shoot a few pistols off etc.   Anyway, see you in another year, good bye.   'FireKn

Project Uglystick

Like I said, after flipping a coin three times and getting tails three times, I decided to roll with a Muzzelite 10/22 sniper rifle build. I dubbed it "Project Uglystick" (due to its... questionable aesthetics). I divided it into four phases: Phase One: purchasing the carbine and internal upgrades (new hop-up, new barrel) Phase Two: purchasing a Muzzelite stock Phase Three: purchasing a compact scope (2-6x28 or 2-6x32) and mount (M16 carry handle rail) Phase Four: assembly and testing

The Coin Flip

So, I finally got some extra cash, after all the sources for cheap Muzzelite stocks and all but one source for a cheap 10/22 dried up. And then, during the search for cheap Muzzelites, Google started actively scaring me with all those real-steel forums and people repeating multiple variants of "awful trigger pull". So today, I decided that I have to choose: "buy me now or forever stay your hand". Let's flip a coin, I thought, and got out a quarter-dollar coin I carry in my wallet.   "All right

Out of the left field

It turned out that AirsoftGlobal has custom-built Muzzelite 10/22 for sale - of course, it's stupidly overpriced and lacking some upgrades, but at least I have a clue how the replica really looks fitted with the Muzzelite stock. First thing: the barrel is shorter than on the real deal, and only the thread sticks out - good for me, I can go with any barrel extension to cover up the Falcon 509 mm one. For example, the 240x40 King Arms can I got from my flatmate. Second, the Muzzelite stock isn't m

Waltissimo!

Or, How To Be Trendy In The Milsim Crowd   As I mentioned a couple of times earlier, Western airsoft is mainly about being up to date and up to style while posing for photos on which you look like you're on an assignment, fighting terrorists from the sinister Qaboom at-Turban organization somewhere in southeastern Turbanistan. Of course, if you feel even more milsim , you're going to black your face out of the photo, because, well, that's what real operators do. Or you look like a dope, one

IPB Gallery now running 4.2.1

I've updated our forum to the latest gallery version. This should fix a few niggly bugs that you might have seen.   I've also rebuilt the search indexes at the same time. Please report any issues on the usual areas of the forum.

Too much money, not enough sense

OK, so I'm going to be $700 richer in the coming days. Want to try and persuade me into not starting any mildly-crazy-to-batshit-insane airsoft projects? 1. Mildly crazy: Magpul-kitted SR25. JG based, fitted with a G&G hop-up, nozzle and standard V2 gearbox, with MOE foregrip and PRS stock. Won't cost a fortune, considering that I can get a decent discount at the local airsoft store and knockoff Magpul parts aren't really that hard to get. 2. Nuts: The Space Blaster. Digests should now be going out

Some of our members were not getting forum digest emails. This has now been fixed by Invision. Sadly it was a bug that was discovered by us and then reported to Invision that turned out to be an issue that affected all deployments of the new software. Our board have now been fixed with a patch, this will have resulted in quite a few emails going out as the backlog of digests went out.   As of now all forum digests should be going out on time and as expected. The patch has been rolled out to th

The Original Three Stooges

Spor and I were begining to wonder if the man known only to us as Sylum would actually show that Saturday morning in the Houma Books-A-Million. We were walking up and down the isle of military books, talking rather inconspicuously about what books to read to perfect the impression we wanted for our team: the deadly, legendary, and other worldly Navy SEALs. The Knights Airsoft Group is unlike most teams in Louisiana, Hell, maybe even the whole United States. Most of the members, fluctuating bet
