HaVoC
Yeah. If you break it in circumstances like that, then they seem to be spot-on with offering a solution, and quickly. For the record, I've put a foot-long gash in the side of an old caravan (metal skin) with my DB-L and the knife didn't even break a sweat. AliceHKfan
Anyone ever handle one of those Microtechs?
r.ocelot
They're pretty much gimmick knives, I swapped my Strider PT for a Halo 2.3, and I deeply regret it. Horrible customer service as well.
AliceHKfan
shame, I really like those HALO III two tone with serrations
HaVoC
Why all the flack for Microtech? I've heard very few bad things about them up until now.

pstj
You call those knives? This is a knife! Finnish made sissipuukko (ranger knife) Mine has been mosty used to chop wood since killing people with sharp objects isn't an everyday hobby for me. It's always nice to have something one can trust on your webgear. Some link in english: http://www.canit.se/~griffon/knives/m95/sissipuukko_m95.html Knife in sheath Knife unsheathed Close-up on the locking system (roll-lock) that keeps the knife in place even if it's hung upside down on your harness Edited June 1, 2007 by pstj
t_wad
That's a shame you feel that way about microtech knives... From what I've heard from my uncle they're the best knives around.
r.ocelot
They're OK if you like things that go twick-twack. However, I fired one by accident near a table, and the tip hit my coffee mug....Small nick on my cup, missing tip on the knife...
HaVoC
Knife + ceramics = bad move You use ceramic rods to sharpen knives. I'd imagine smashing a knife INTO a big block of ceramic material with that much force can't be good.
r.ocelot
It was a hard plastic mug I got from my trip to disney land.... Speaking of ceramic cups, if you carry an unglazed cup on your camping trips, you can use the cups as a sharpening tool. Glazed cups doesn't work at all.

r.ocelot
obviously <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Was that referring to my post? If so, well, I only learned of it after I asked for a portable sharpener on the USN, as I don't really feel like carrying my sharpmaker around. SC, if you ever want to borrow it, let me know. This thing works wonders on knives. Edited June 2, 2007 by r.ocelot
SilentScope
I was thinking about getting one of those Spyderco sharpmakers myself. I'm not much a blade person, even though I've had this expensive Strider for a while and I'm a huge outdoors person (growing up in NYC does that to people like me), so what angle do you sharpen your S30V knives at, r.ocelot? I saw this article: http://www.zknives.com/knives/articles/knifesteelfaq.shtml, where the author says S30V performs best with a 20º edge, or less, like 15º, but it could be BS for all I know. ohhh and since I'm happy with how this picture came out, I'll post it in this thread: I'll try to get some more knife porn tomorrow if the weather behaves
r.ocelot
You'll be doing yourself a huge favor if you get the sharpmaker, as in 3 mins you can get your knife hair shaving sharp. One of the guys on the USN is always missing patches of arm hair after sharpening with the SM... I use the 20 degrees option on my sharpmaker (40 degrees inclusive). I tried the 30 degrees option, and it made the blade much chippier. Strider guys have their knives at 22.5/45 degrees inclusive. Please note that mine is a droppoint, and that previous segment should only apply to the main edge, while the secondary (stabbing) edge should be at a more obtuse angle... Kama
20 and 15 deegrees are the optimal angle for kitchen knives. You wouldneed a steeper angle if you don't want to splinter the edge while cutting wood. cant remember the precise angle
eel one [COE]
Here are a small selection of my own creations, not exactly airsoft related but still knifes. On the feild I wear a "SwissTool+ rescue" and a "Glock field knife 78" but those are standard and not worth showing pics of.
