So now the question becomes:

Will Obama be the last elected President of the United States of America?

Also: Saying that we should pull out of Iraq is akin to saying that you should leave your teenage girlfriend to fend for herself after repeatedly and purposefully f___ing her over and over again in an attempt to get her pregnant. It's irresponsible. We've had our fun, we've gotten to play God. Now it's time to clean up the mess and foot the bill for it and some members of the American public are saying, "Hell, no!" Tough. We can pay for it now in a little blood and a little gold or our children can pay for it with a lot of blood and a lot of gold.

Oh boy this post is going to be a long one. Here goes.

DesertFox; Please, don't enlist, the armed forces don't need someone who'd want to serve for personal gain. Personal gain? ######. If I made the final decision to join, I would care less if I died for the country, as long as I felt what I am ordered to do is right and is for the better good. If you were at all serious about defending your country you'd support our country regardless of the man in charge. It's not about defending the executive office, it's about defending the people and ideals of this country. If I don't have the confidence in our leader to do what’s right.

I'm so disgusted with what you wrote, and how it sullies the work and sacrifices of real soldiers. Quit basing your hopes and dreams on Call of Duty 4.

Call of Duty 4, eh? If I were to join, it wouldn't be because of any stupid commercial/game/promise/ glory/ or any perception of such. I wanted to join to make a *fruitcage* difference, and fight for the rights of the oppressed, not to fulfill some stupid fantasy. Stop jumping to immature conclusions.

LOLWUT......Wait that statement is contradictory, so if the "man" in charge were a dictator lets say and hates America, but he is technically the American dictator your still fighting for the American ideals?

This statement is LOLWUT.

Agreed. Why would anyone who truly cares about our troops cut back Future Warrior Programs, that develops technology that keeps our troops safe and well equipped.

I've gone to 4 funerals for friends who've died in Iraq. My aunt died in Afghanistan 3 years ago. Most of us know someone who's died in Iraq, and that fact alone should make us question why we're there.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I have two cousins currently serving in the Marines, one Uncle WIA during Desert Storm, and my grandpa was a POW when the Japanese invaded the Philippines during WWII and my dad is an ex soldier.

Desert..... and the badger used to think you were cool. Thats all he can say.

I don't care about being "cool". What I care about is doing what I feel is right and for the better good. So what if my ideology differs with yours or anyone elses?

There are actually those serving in the armed forces who want to champion the ideals of freedom and democracy. Is it so surprising when there are those that do not wish to serve under a leader who wants to pull out so American sacrifices can be for naught when the power vacuum is occupied by the likes of Iran or Al Qaeda? That is serving for what they and many others believe to be the ideals of this country.

Thank you for making sense. I disagree with Obama’s plan to pull out in 16 months. When we are planning, they will rest. When we leave, they will take over, unless the Iraqis are ready to fend for themselves.

EDIT: I also don't want my hard-earned tax dollars to be spent so some kids can go play soldier.

I would not join to “play soldier”. If I wanted to just “play soldier” I would just stick to airsoft and never even think of joining the military.

Desertfox,

Have you been following the news the last six months? The "surge" has been effective, Iraqi forces now control 10 of Iraq's 18 provinces without the assistance of U.S. ground forces, Maliki has called for U.S. troops to be withdrawn (or here) and insurgent attacks are down significantly (the monthly death toll of U.S. troops is also down).

This is hardly the result of a half finished fight. The Iraq War is being won, and the next step is allowing the Iraqis to win it for themselves. The U.S. should, and will, take a supervisory and training role. The gradual withdrawal of U.S. troops is the first step in making this transition. Then maybe we can concentrate on retaking Afghanistan, a country that has been severely neglected while we waged a war of choice in Iraq.

I never said the surge isn’t working. Leaving prematurely will cause a collapse as seen in Vietnam, in my opinion

Oh right, it was just the US carpet bombing Iraq for the sake of target practice.

The surge is working. Obama didn't support it and he deserves no credit for the security and stability gains made as a result.

Agreed. I never said that the surge didn’t work, and thank God it did.

I said it once, and will say it again. I am not trying to undermine the sacrifices made by our troops, nor will I. American Troops are my heroes, so don't try to make it look like I'm some selfish *beep* who wants undermine them.

Well all i can say is that dems got their boy in and they got the legislature on their leash for at least 2 years. If they have some ideas for progress im all for it and now they have a nice white canvas to paint on in that regard.

However, for all the f..ups they make it is all on them since they are nearly in a state of complete control(sans sup court), i have faith in the American people to right any wrongs that would be done on them as the ultraconservatives are prophesying, after all we put these nutjobs on there pedestal and we can kick em off!

So lets see what road this change takes us on shall we? I honestly look forward to Obama's first major league foreign policy confrontation, but i dearly want to hear his cabinet choices.

the other is a greedy *beep* using the name of the United States Armed Forces to provide a facade for the pursuit of their own delusions of grandeur on the battlefield.

A bit like Haliburton then eh? Although in Haliburton's case, making a *suitcase* load of money ;)

Sorry Desert, I have to say I'm not with you on this one.

Seconded. I don't see how he's cut any programs yet, nor has he made mention of slashing defense budget. It's this republican boogeyman story that they tell that because he's a democrat he'll take your guns and your bullets.

Clinton slashed budgets when there WASN'T a war going on. That makes sense, the military was wasting money on stupid programs during the late 90's. TWO wars are going on, it would be extremely unpopular for Obama to undercut our men in combat. So please, quit getting your facts from Fox News and fear mongering news sources.

Republicans are broken records, "don't take away my guns!" No one is taking away your guns, but seriously people, if you your priority is to your guns and you're not GRAVELY concerned about your ability to AFFORD guns, or be well enough to get out of bed to shoot your guns, then your head is so far up your *albatross*. We've got bigger things to be concerned with, he's not gonna take your guns, yeesh. Put the crack down!

Wait a minute... Doesn't serving as an officer count as a career anymore?! I guess they must all be doing it for the common good :D

I'd like to see a full blown Native American Indian (preferably Apache) elected as President.

Now that would be ironic!

"Now we will take back the lands your fathers stole from us" *start doing an indian war dance* "Hey-Yar-Hey-Yar-Yar"

So how long until Obama bans airsoft just like the UK did? "Common sense gun laws" would definitely involve making sure toy guns don't get in the hands of the people now. :(

airsoft is banned here? since when?

would it be rude if i pointed and laughed at tamaneko?

what else are they good for? Bush still thinks there are WMDs in Iraq. Heck I like my guns but when they start worrying over losing their guns and not over the fact that they just had a president who effectively ruined the country both economically and in reputation then what else can one expect them to come up with? Looking at the sort of human rights issues in the USA alone it makes me almost sick to know that there are some people care more about their guns than their fellow man.

Bush ruined the economy? Up until recently, the national GDP has seen nothing but positive growth. In fact, the Dow basically doubled in the matter of a decade. The stock market plummeted when banks and lenders started going under as a result of risky housing loans biting them in the *albatross*. Banks go under, investments and retirement accounts dwindle to nothing, credit dries up, no one wants to lend to each other, and now the slightlest signs of weak earnings send investors into a panic as more and more people pull out to avoid losing further money. Dems pushed for laxer lending requirements and repeatedly ignored Bush's calls for mortgage reform (this isn't from the Huffington Post, New York Times, CollegeHumor, MSNBC, or MoveOn so I'm sure it will fall on many deaf ears). Fannie and Freddie went under, mortgage backed securities were affected, stocks fell. But I know blaming Bush for everything is the fashionable thing to do so I have no expectation that anything to the contrary will change your mind.

I love to see how everyone is very open to a civil discussion. And how no one is accusing anyone else of being a socialist, a blind man, or an uncaring single-issue voter.

Oh, wait....

This thread is filled with nothing but masturbation and ad hominem attacks on others. I guess that this is because no one has anything relevant to add to the discussion, except to give each other a reach around or a nut check, depending on whether or not they are of the same opinion or differing opinions.

Exceptions excepted, of course.
