Little para
I hear that minicart, Joining the army is my ideal career, Problem is i have terrible sight, but lazer eye surgery will fix that one. Â Calico, nice Loadout, looks really authentic, unless you are acctually in the Army, where did you get the Para helmet? Edited May 10, 2007 by Little para
Gadge
I'd check they are happy with it, possible it might totally exclude you haivng laser eye surgery wheras glasses wont. Â I dont know but i'd check. Â Laser eye surgery is still pretty much uncharted stuff in medical terms.
Bill Hearst
@minicart: What kind of badge on your shoulder is it?! And yes, they're right - your beret is soo big! The rest looks good, with just items missing! Â @calico: Really nice... are there more of you and your mate?! Maybe more detail pics?!
Little para
Really? hmm well i know with SPecial forces you must have 20/20 vision and perfect hearing, i guess i could join some branch of the army possibly An "Army job" correct me if i am wrong. So Military Police or something similar but thanks Gadge i'll look into it.
Lord Blackgoat
It might be different for the British Army, but in the French Army, you can have laser surgery. That will just make you inapt for operations for 1 year. Not sure about SF, but for helo pilots (which I was most interrested) it's a no-no. Any problem remotely relevant to eyesight in your medical history makes you inapt. Now I heard that if you have no military medical records and do the surgery in a foreign country, they shouldn't be able to detect it. But that's too late for me... Already have plenty military medical records.
0 armalite 0
Little Para: I asked the recruiting side of the parachute regiment whether I'd be allowed in with glasses/contacts since my eyesight is so bad I need glasses to drive. They replied telling me they know many people in the paras with glasses, but they were only that specific. Â I've emailed them back whether the fact I need glasses will hinder any specialisation after becoming a rifleman in the paras and we'll see what they say - I'll keep you updated. Â I read somewhere that laser eye surgery gives you 20/20 vision during daytime but hinders your night vision as lights at night flare like lens flare on a camera, but I must read up a bit more as I've only heard one version of that although it did come from a reputable laser eye surgery company. So laser eye-surgery may not be the way to go. Â EDIT: Apparently the lens flare at night can be fixed with another dose of surgery, but again, I'm going to have to get some definative answers from the paras before I go breaking the bank for someone to shoot lasers in my eyes. Lance Jackass
The best way to find out the medical side of things is to just walk into the careers office and ask. I got the answer "sorry i can't tell you, i'm not qualified" etc for years at recruitment stands, untill i just went and asked in the office. No forces for me - not with a deaf ear. Just keeping going untill you get the answer. Â Saw this and thought of you Dazjw: Â http://www.genuinearmysurplus.co.uk/pages/...ebbing/rowid=41 Â Calico - brilliant kit there mate. I take it that you and your mate are both regs then?

Kipper
I was reading a medical entry form a few months back now before i went on a potential officer course. If you have laser eye they dont want to know. Â They just dont want you. End of.

If you have laser eye they dont want to know. They just dont want you. End of. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you have it when you're already in though they just medically downgrade you for a period of time.  Also Having done a massive amount of research into this area there are whispers that a new technique of laser surgery is actually being given to SF soldiers and pilots who are losing their vision. Apparently it actually makes you natural NV better. However info on this is impossible to come by and 'sketchy' at best so don't get your hopes up anyone.
Little para
Well im taking your advice into account im going to speak with an army careers advisor/ officer or whatever they are called these days, and find what the rules are.

Tom Bombadil
Wow thats a good face paint job!
kwiky
thanks, i just applied green and black in diagonal stripes and then used some wet cotton wool to remove the cam cream in thin lines between the two colours to show some light skin tone, it gives a nice contrast and break the outline up better than just using the darker cam colours, Â heres a pic of me in action that shows its effectiveness better than when im just standing around posing. kwiky
yeah i know what you mean, i dont ususally put it on like that but it was raining pretty heavy in the moring when i applied it and i thought it would get washed off pretty quick, so i put it on thicker than normal, it then stopped raining and never started again  i think it worked better than it usually does though so maybe im converted to the yanks way of doing thing from now on, which wont really bother me becuase im not really pretending to be anyone, im just kwiky the airsofter

kwiky
nope, i just didnt put it on as thick, you can see on the last pic its still quite dark around the back of my ears/neck area, it would of stood out alot more if i'd missed it
Gadge
Yeah its the sort of face cam job you've be told was 'too much' in the UK forces. Â A lot of cam creme can make your face shine too much and its no more effective (actually less) than applying a medium amount over a base . Â Always good to cam your hands fingers and forearms if you';re going to that much trouble too. Amazing how visible fingers can be as well as foreamrs when your smock rides up crawling. Â Being a purist i'd say wear your knee pads *under* your trousers as well although what was once not allowed is apparently allowed in some units, i just think its looks gash personally... Â I used to teach recruits to put on cam about this amount: Â Â (note highly visible uncammed hand as i only did my face for these pics)
