Popular Airsoft Magazine Nov Issue: The Living Dead!

by Arnie

Popular Airsoft’s new issue is out:

Airsoft “zombie-ism” is a loaded issue because we are all so close to doing it, if not already done it at one point or another. Please, do not argue with us on this, gentlemen — you would cheat in two seconds flat if you know there is no chance of you getting caught. How do we know this? We know this because we have also thought about it, thought it through to the logical conclusion.

So here we are on our 9th issue – ZOMBIES: what makes them tick and what do we do about it.

In our cover stories, Brahma delves into the complications of cheating and zombie-ism, at the same time, rounded up some off-the-cuff comments from people on how they deal with zombies. The BigBadBear gives us an insight on the “FPS race”, whether or not it IS the solution to this spreading menace of zombie-ism. He will also introduce us to some coined terms to describe the many “levels” of an airsoft zombie. Find out from him whether you are a Donkey or an Orc.

The recent spate of customs hold ups in our review units left us with tons of guns, gears and equipment to review. In this issue, MasterChief and OptimusPrime let us revisit some classic airsoft guns as interpreted by A&K, with its LR300 and KJWorks, with its M700 Sniper Rifle. MasterChief also returns with the T4-18, Top Tech’s version of the HK416 and the WE siblings—the Baby Hi-Capa 3.8 and the Hi-Capa 5.1 full metal GBBs. On the other hand, Ogre leaves us salivating at the beauteous Avalon Mk 18 Mod 0 Carbine.

Brahma and Ogre, in their recent trip to the South (in the Philippines), led them to the discovery of this ass-kicking, BB-spewing team of sexy Valkyries – Team TAMSE of Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Be amazed at how this relatively young all-female team shows the ropes to the more veteran male teams in Busca y Destruir Tres, SEAL Davao’s 18-man CQB Tournament (appearing in our December issue). In Germany, OptimusPrime had the chance to “expose” Shadowcats’ plan of world domination.

In our ACE Events section, our resident lay out artist tries his mettle at wordcrafting as he writes down his experiences at the 2008 Megaball held in Mimosa, Clark Field, Pampanga, Philippines, while Brahma and Ogre walks us through the many sideshows of the event. Moondog, again, amazes us with his stories on OP: Majestic. Brahma returns with a lowdown on the highlights of Battle of the Decades.

We have Pioneer Rich Technology Development or P.R.T.D in our Manufacturer-in-Focus section. P.R.T.D. is the manufacturer of the Hakkotsu Thunder B Sound Grenade, which MasterChief had the pleasure of “bang-ing” up in our Geardo Section. Brahma got the surprise of his life upon learning that the people behind Airsoft Research Syndicate (ARS) are Filipinos, contrary to initial reports about “some Japanese engineers” making a breakthrough in Sorbothane’s application in airsoft. Learn more about ARS as Brahma interviews T. Kashino, et al—the geniuses behind Sorbo pad. OptimusPrime has put his more-than-average command of the Italian language to good use, as he interviewed Giovanni Zaccone, the man behind Italy’s Softair Bid Website. Wrapping up the Features Section is Brahma’s inside look at airsoft in Canada.

Adhering to our commitment of providing you with relevant airsoft and airsoft-related information, we release the 2008 Online Retailer Satisfaction Survey (O.R.S.S.), a follow-up to our Global Airsoft Survey Project (G.A.S.P.). We have started the O.R.S.S. in 2007 to gauge the online buying habits and purchasing satisfaction of airsoft players online. Coupled with G.A.S.P., you can have a valuable insight on airsoft player worldwide. Based on the 2008 O.R.S.S., we have identified these crucial observations:

– airsoft retailers need to improve customer service and their online facilities;
– Hong Kong-based retailers need to have Europe-based partners in order to mitigate the impact of growing legislation in the E.U., which restricts the importation of airsoft guns by individuals; and
– prices and shipping costs alone do not hinder many online shoppers.
