A repeat I know, but I thought you’d all like to get a second nosey at my ugly mug being humiliated on Redwolf TV.
Whilst on holiday in HK I was asked to pay a visit to Red Wolf Airsoft’s Headquarters. I didn’t quite expect a full Top Gear-esque interview and challenge – especially with a pistol I’ve never used before in a climate I’m unfamiliar with and with a whole other arsenal of excuses to boot, but…Hey, just watch the video.
I should warn you that there’s a lot of talking. If you’re the type who flicks through a book and just looks at the pictures, skip to the actual challenge at 6:00 and prepare to be…er…amazed.
Embarrassing, yes, but it speaks for itself really. I also bought a GHK AKS74 whilst at their HQ – I couldn’t resist, with them lying around. The review can be found here.
Chris u’5 has posted on the forums with some rather worrying news and a request:
As you are aware I started a thread recently regarding the very real possibility of both airgunning and airsoft being banned in Scotland.
There is a lot going on in the Scottish airgun community currently to oppose this proposed change in law and BASC is also heavily involved.
Currently there are very mixed messages coming from the SNP government regarding their intentions regarding this matter, initially after discussion with BASC the SNP promised there would not be an outright ban on airguns in Scotland.
Recently however they have been suggesting otherwise and it appears they are aiming for a complete blanket ban. BASC have been in contact with the SNP over the past few days and they have again stated that a complete ban is not their intention and they have apparently said that airguns will be allowed for the use of vermin control or recognised sporting events.
Unfortunately the question of airsoft has not been made clear in this entire debacle.
As far as the SNP are concerned airsoft and airguns are all one thing, I am very worried that they will not recognise airsoft skirmishing as one of their "recognised sporting events" and I have the feeling when they say this they are referring to airgun sports such as Hunter Field Target.
Tonight a petition was posted at the No.10 website calling for Westminster to regain control of firearm law and not allow the Scottish Government to destroy our sport.
Naturally I am a cynic when it comes to politics but at this stage I feel we must do anything we can to prevent this potential change in law to occur.
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ScottishGunBan/
Obviously this is a potentially serious matter for our sport so I would be extremely grateful to you if you could assist in this campaign.
Kind regards and best wishes,
Chris

An error cropped up with the SQL database for the forums. The database is being repaired at the moment and should be back working without issue very shortly. Sorry for the headache but these things do happen from time to time. Things should be back up in about 15 minutes.
Update 02/01/09: (2029 GMT) All seems to be fine now
Update 03/01/09: (1000 GMT) The quick fix/repair hasn’t held so I’m currently conducting a complete rebuild of the affected table. This has happened before so I’m pretty confident that this will set things back to where they should be. Forums will be unavailable while I do this. Expect it to take a few hours. Fix ETA 1400. So far 173k of 196k records done.
Update 03/01/09: (1407 GMT) Ok that’s 3Gb of data rebuilt and it should all be stable now. Forums back online.

While, I finally got around to it, after server crashes and a particularly unpleasant bout of sickness and diarrhoea. You may (or probably won’t) recall that I contacted LCT Airsoft a while back to buy some of their advertised RPK components from them. Well, here they are, and here’s the reviews with some brief extracts:
RPK Receiver:
The receiver is solid. VERY solid. It arrived cable-tied to a cardboard backing and wrapped in Taiwanese newspapers, and I have to say even this probably is not necessary for a receiver this resilient. Owners of Inokatsu steel receivers will not be disappointed; in terms of build quality this receiver seems identical in every way…
RPK Rear Sight
…What this exposes, however, is the fact that there’s a serious market gap for RPK sights. One manufacturer addressing this is LCT Airsoft. This is certainly very similar in appearance to a real steel RPK sight. Both windage and elevation work perfectly, with the windage dial accurately shifting the sight accordingly, and the elevation bar being a solid piece of metal designed to bite in place - unlike the Marui alternatives of old, which invariably slid up and down the sight before vanishing in the closest bush.
The AK / RPK Bolt review will follow as soon as I feel a bit more lucid, but for now that’s all from me!
This isn’t your usual commercial post, but rather one that I could not ignore, given the content. Rob from team Darkangel has been in touch with a plea that concerns everyone:
My 7 year old Niece is fairly ill at the moment.
She has been diagnosed with a condition that can be best described as “pre - leukaemic”… her bone marrow…is destroying her good blood. She is ok in herself but is now on a waiting list trying to find a match as the blood relatives aren’t a match for her. She’s now under GOSH for ongoing treatment, this includes regular blood transfusions to keep her going and then hopefully the transplant and then Chemo that will see her hospitalised in a sterile bubble for 6-8 weeks with no direct contact from anyone other than medical staff.
Hopefully this will happen before the condition becomes full blown.
Fortunately thanks to a team member of mine Ben (Bennyboy) who works for Great Ormond Street hospital we have been able to help by arranging some transport stuff for her to and from GOSH etc.
My team (Darkangel) regularly holds a charity event that sends the funds to GOSH and thanks to everyone that took part in the charity stuff…
Rob, (Team Darkangel)
Rob goes onto plead for that everyone in the airsofting to consider joining the ‘Anthony Nolan’ national register, as a simple blood test could save or at least vastly improve the lives of many like Rob’s niece.
Thanks.
Just to give you the latest on the Police enforcement of the VCRA:
Dorset Police have launched an amnesty on imitation firearms. Chief Inspector Wesley Trickey is quoted as saying ‘We will not be seeking to prosecute anyone handing one in, should the possession of it have been an offence’.
Dorset Police are now actively visiting retailers selling RIFs to ensure they are complying with the Violent Crime Reduction Act (VCRA), and have carried out test purchases at retail premises suspected of selling RIFs to people without exemption status.
It goes without saying that retailers are already aware of this, but this seemed an important point to raise.
West Midlands police have actually been taking action against retailers, with a store in Coventry, who they found to be selling cheap springers, having its stock seized after it was found they were selling them without purchase. In this case the store appears to have been a general sports shop which they were visiting to remind of the law in relation to the sales of knives, rather than an specialist airsoft shop.
I know that our members are committed to behaving in a lawful manner, and that all of us planning on purchasing airsoft replicas have evidence of our exemption status in place (be it UKARA membership if buying from a UKARA-registered shop, or site membership / a skirmish diary if buying from a non UKARA-retailer / importing from overseas), but it’s worth being aware that the police force do not consider the VCRA to be an ‘empty threat’ as some had feared.
Cheers.

Hopefully you all enjoy using Arnies, and find it a fun / informative place to visit on the web, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try and improve the experience for everyone.
One of the areas which I feel we could probably develop the website is in regards to its news section. At present a small team of dedicated volunteers work hard to bring you whatever relevant news we can get our hands on. I can’t help but feeling, however, that we could improve it…
…That’s where you fine people come in. Is there anything we can do here to improve the news section for you? Is it fine? Click here to visit the forum and view the news suggestion poll. You can choose as many answers as you wish, and if you wish, make any comments or suggestions. We’ll seriously consider all views - as long as they’re not too bizarre or abusive!
Once again, here’s the link to the poll:

I thought I’d post a few updates from the forums:
- International sales open - EU/international and USA areas of the sales forums are now open to all users. Previously all were restricted to users with more than 100 posts, however this was not applicable to international sales. We think the new adjustment strikes a bit of a balance between safety, security and usability.
- New contributors wanted - We’re looking for as many news editors as possible. If you think you can bring something new to the site and your own identity and contributions to the readership then please do let us know.
- Upgrade roadplan - The forums have been upgraded, there’s more to do, but there’s lots of new features. It should be faster and it’s a whole heap easier to use. Check out the forums and see what you think. The new look isn’t complete and there’s more to do, however the back end is mostly complete.

ICS has sent us some exclusive images of the soon to be released ICS AK74-M and AK74-S which we covered on the news section back in March 2007. It looks like these will be available to customers either at the end of August to Mid-September. Right now we don’t have any pricing or other features of the gun, but as the saying goes ” A picture is worth a thousand words!”

For more pictures of the ICS AK74-M and AK74-S head on in to the forums to see more images of these excellent replicas here!
