Just a few Saturday updates

by Arnie

I’ve been having a kinda fun read through Airsoft Atlanta’s blog over at blotspot (you can see their full website here), it just goes to show that you don’t need a huge fancy website to write something interesting, and can keep things simple whilst still writing stuff that’s half interesting. Their blog isn’t quite updated daily but it’s updated a few times a week and they do read the comments that people place on the daily updates.

Western Arms have added the ‘MARSOC‘ pistol to their lineup. Looking pretty like the real Kimber 1911 MARSOC Det 1 (Marine Corps Special Operation Command Detachment 1) it features what look to me like look-a-like slide markings. Whilst initially looking like the classic Kimber signature the WA replica has something that looks almost right visually but lacks the correct detail and lettering (it looks cut too deep too). I suspect that sadly WA don’t have a license from Kimber themselves for the pistol and have instead marketed the pistol with something close to the real marking but not perfect so as to avoid trademark issues. The quality of the photos on WA’s site aren’t great so it’s possible that the slide markings look better in the flesh. Equally if I’m being picky the gunner style grips with diamond cutouts just don’t look quite right. If you want to see a shot of the real MARSOC, checkout this image from Mark Freburg on outdoors.net. It know sounds a little picky being so critical of a new pistol, but personally I don’t see much point in making a replica of a real firearm like the Kimber unless you at least get it right visually.

The pistol comes with the lower rail and grips you’d expect and a decent looking lanyard ring. Anyone that’s paid large sums for custom Kimber style parts may not be quite so happy with the release of a mass produced WA version (at least any custom parts were most likely metal). As a small aside, according to text over on DefenseReview the correct name according to Pat Rogers is “Kimber MCSOCOM Det 1”.

While I’m reading around a few of the US dealers pages you might want to checkout Depot53’s news pages which currently sports shots of the KWC/Cybergun Taurus PT-92 Tactical GBB pistol. Reportedly the pistol is designed to be full metal and CO2 powered with a gas system by Tanio Koba:

KWC and CyberGun are in the process of developing a Taurus PT-92 Tactical GBB. Pictures of the prototype were recently released showing a highly-detailed, full-metal CO2 design by Koba weighing at around two pounds.

The GBB will come standard with semi and full-auto capability using the proven Beretta firing system, a 40-round hi-cap magazine, and an adjustable hop-up.

As with all CyberGun products, this Taurus PT-92 will be available in the U.S. with fully-licensed trademarks. The manufacturer’s suggest retail price is $199 and it is expected to be available in November. (Depot 53)

There’s more news over there including details of a short barrel for the TM SPAS from X-Fire, so I’d recommend popping on over and having a read.

Over at Permian’s site (Element Concepts) there’s an article covering the fitting of a battery stock, such as the now common crane stocks and also a new editorial that’s been added. I haven’t managed to find the actual crane stock guide myself but I’m sure it’s there somewhere, while over there do have read of the editorial though. Edit: thanks to Greg in Hungary who found the link for me, you can find the stock article here. Element Concepts is an Airsoft website that is run by an individual who simply enjoys running an information website (with help from Mikkk, Karlos, Pedro and MM). There’s no real ties to hold him back from saying what is on his mind, and long may that remain the case.
